(The song that many would say Jennifer Lopez ruined.)
This was definitely a change of direction for Carly Simon. "You Belong To Me" was an R&B edged track produced by Michael McDonald. It was from 1978's "Boys In The Trees".
The Michael McDonald production on here is amazing and one of the highlights is the sax outro.
The Billboard Hot 100: #6 Adult Contemporary: #4

This is the only Carly Simon song that I don't mind listening to (probably because it's from 1978... for some reason I love almost every hit from that year).

She did a wonderful job with Michael McDonald on YBTM. An interesting note: Carly Simon has yet to reach #1 on my chart. Her biggest hit to date is "Son Of A Gun". The original album version peaked at #2 in 2001. :)

Didn't the Doobie Brothers do their own version of this song back in the early 1980s?

I thought so - I remember hearing it on B96 occasionally back in the summer of 1983. It was a pretty good version, but I still prefer Carly Simon's better.

I've always wondered about the comparison some writer made about this song and one by Matchbox Twenty. I don't hear it at all. What do you think? Here's the quote:
"While the catchy "Disease" (no pun intended) occasionally comes a little too close to Carly Simon's "You Belong to Me" for comfort, its musical insistence and inventive production make it stick in the memory."
I love Carly Simon. I have her greatest hits CD. She used to be the epitome of the female singer/songwriter. Such a great talent.

The part where Carly says, "You don't have to prove to me that you're beautiful to strangers" sounds like the part where Rob says, "Every little thing you do is tragic, all my life, oh was magic." Anyway, I LOVE this song! One of my favorites from her. And I like the J.Lo version too.

I love Simon's original version, but Anita's voices makes the song so sexy and soulful...it's amazing.
