Just shake and bounce around! :)
Featuring Fabolous and Busta Rhymes.
Was supposed to be a single from Glitter - Video was filmed and everything!
I like it. Jammin'!

I liked this too.
I did not have a problem with this album like others did.

It's an okay cover. I like InDeep's original better. Also, I liked Sylk 130's cover from a few years ago. Here's a sample of Mariah's song. www.mp3search.ru/m3u.html?id=12714

Sylk 130's version was fab.
Mariah's version reached #11 in the French airplay chart.

I hated the video, but the song was a JAM! "Glitter" was THE JAM! I thought it was hilarious how she would perform this at concerts like "United We Stand" after performing "Never Too Far/Hero." Low cut dress and all! Nu Mariah! She seemed to wear the same dress for all her performances at that time.

I don't like it, mainly because I think having three rappers on this was too much. The song is too busy.

JAM! Fabolous and Busta Rhymes were also on Lumidee's "Never Leave You" remix.

That explains why Virgin don't even know what the hell they were doing when their people don't know how to promote Mariah well enough. I'm sorry but Indeep's version is much better than the crappy-assed rendition with the rappers. What a waste of groove!

Not old school, but it's Mariah nevertheless.

With the Glitter album, Mariah explored the roots of early to mid-80's New York dance music. She grew up listening to KTU, WBLS, and WRKS and wanted to duplicate the sounds that filled her childhood. She worked with Rick James to recreate the sound of the Mary Jane Girls, Val Young, and Teena Marie. She collaborated with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, reviving a sound not heard so authentically since The SOS Band. Unfortunately, although Prince contacted her numerous times expressing his interest to work with her, conflicting schedules prevented the collaboration.
There were many samples and covers used on the Glitter album. Instead of just duplicating the 80's styles, Mariah reinvented and updated some of the tracks. While her cover of Cherrelle's hit "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On" was sung over the exact original instrumental given to Mariah by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis who produced the original track, reworkings of the New York dance classics "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life" and "Funkin' For Jamaica" were also featured on the album.
The original "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life" by Indeep featured rap by the male member of the group. Mariah threw down some feminine rhymes, but recruited Busta Rhymes and DJ Clue to bring some masculinity and freshness to the song. The actual effectiveness of that idea is up for debate.
Since Mariah had basically been left to fend for herself towards her last few years with Columbia being forced to promote and even pay for many of her releases, Mariah thought she would get the opportunity with Virgin too. She intended for "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life" to be the fourth single from the Glitter album. She even went as far as to shoot a video with fellow biracial friend Sanaa Hamri. The video was also rooted in the early 80's resembling late 70's/early 80's porn. It remained under wraps for over a year before finally debuting on the Honey B. Fly fan club site. The song was released in France where it became an airplay hit.

I like it. I think Glitter was very daring for her, and this song just proves that.

The original is much better, but Mariah's cover was fun and funky, too.

If Mariah's vocals were better, this could have been a hot track. The instrumental was pretty hot. And Busta and Fabolous sound great.

Wilma M. Holla!
Wilma, talk to 'em!
This song was pretty hot...DJ Clue's vocals are uneccessary and add to the 'busy-ness' of the song...
and yes, Wilma's vocals are MUCH too whispery. But the beat and Busta/Fab's parts are hot

The original = timeless classic. MC's cover = pure overblown, over-produced, over-everything, dreck.

That VH1 performance was horrific! Everyone was dancing and Mariah was just shuffling/waddling in her heels.

That VH1 performance was horrific! Everyone was dancing and Mariah was just shuffling/waddling in her heels. She does that almost everytime. I actually liked this perfomance, it was great visually...

Where did they get that nickname from? Maybe the next album could be titled "The Introduction of Wilma."

She effed up a really classic dance song. She doesn't sing a single word, it's all a slurry whisper, and Busta Rhymes has verbal diarrhea over the entire song. Garbage.
