Love this song! Chaka's vocals are pure genius. The song could have been so trite and cliche with the lyrics, but she knocks it out of the park. Starts it off with the smoldering laid back thing, and then rips into it at the end.
It works because it's so simple. The production with the guitar licks is just enough. This is possibly my favorite Chaka song. Mary J. Blige did a respectable cover on her What's the 411? album.

I used to love this song, but it is extremely overplayed. Rufus and Chaka had a number of great songs that don't get near enough airplay. "Sweet Thing" is great, but I just get tired of hearing it.
B Angie B also did a very different version of the song (Sweet Thang) in the early 90's. It was more of a mid-tempo version. Not exactly a great version, but enjoyable.
Mary J.'s version is a flawless cover.

I love Chaka's work that she did while she was with Rufus. She had a good solo career, but none of it compares to her Rufus years. Of course there's like the big three Rufus songs, those being "Sweet Thing," "Tell Me Something Good," and "Ain't Nobody" but there's a lot of other great Rufus songs that didn't become such big hits (atleast as far as crossover hits go). The "Ask Rufus" material is just classic... "Hollywood," "Everlasting Love" (no not the Carl Carlton song lol), and "At Midnight". "Rufusized" also had some great singles, "Once You Get Started" and "Please Pardon Me" to name a couple. Once Chaka went solo though, I think the quality of their work really went downhill. "Ain't Nobody" is really the only song that lived up to classic Rufus. Once she rejoined after starting her solo career, a lot of the Rufus material sounded like weaker versions of her solo material.

Great song. I think I like Mary J's cover version better, but they're both good.

Obviously, this song is an R&B classic. I agree with Rebirth, Chaka had some nice solo material, but nothing matched her Rufus material.
And don't forget "Do You Love What You Feel" on that list... One of their biggest hits, and my personal fav.

I haven't heard this but I'm interested. Ironically enough, I heard the two other major Rufus/Chaka Khan songs that Josh mentioned this week for the first time on two different stations ("Ain't Nobody" on the smooth jazz station and "Tell Me Something Good" on the Triple A one.)

Classic!
Mary J. did an OK job with her cover, but there's no comparison.
Mary is no Chaka!

I personally think MJB did a better job than Chaka... I think Mary's is HOT!
Other favorites by Chaka/Rufus: "Everlasting Love," "Ain't Nobody," & "You Can Make The Story Right."

"This is the song that Mary J. Blige f*cked up" is what Chaka used to say when she perfomed it in concert.
