If you can get past the whole disco thing, you will find that Chic put out some incredibly produced records in the late 1970s. The instrumentation on all their big hits, like "I Want Your Love" and "Everybody Dance," is completely flawless. One of their best songs was the over-the-top 1978 track "Le Freak." It's a song about some dance that I've never seen, but that bass and those guitar riffs are unbelievably good. To fully appreciate this song -- or any of their hits -- you have to listen to the extended version and hear the phenomenal instrumental breakdown. Even though this is not their best-remembered track (that would probably be "Good Times"), it was easily their biggest U.S. pop hit: Hot 100: #1(6 weeks), R&B: #1(5 weeks), UK: #7.

I love this song! (Of course, the "whole disco thing" doesn't bother me.) :)
This was the first song ever to hit #1 on the Hot 100, get knocked down, climb back up to #1, fall out again, and then return for a third time.

This is such a fun song! I have always loved it.
Jocelyn Enriquez did some song a few years back that sampled this and it was really cool.

I like the UK remix of the song as well, titled "Jack Le Freak" in 1987! It was during that time when "commercial house" was boomin' over there.

Jocelyn Enriquez did some song a few years back that sampled this and it was really cool. It was also sampled in "Here We Go" by C&C Music Factory.

They did a parody of this song on "The Simpsons" recently. They were watching a commercial and a cold soar was dancing around on a woman's upper lip singing, "Awwww...break out!"

This is an incredible track. Not their absolute best, but it's up there.

I prefer several other Chic songs, but their first few albums were all full of excellent songs.

I love the inspiration behind this song. Lol. Fun tune, but definitely not their best.
I get annoyed when I typically just hear this, 'Good Times' & 'I Want Your Love' in full on my older radio stations (haven't heard the latter in awhile), but always hear 'My Forbidden Lover', 'Chic Cheer', 'My Feet Keeps Dancing' & 'Everybody Dance' as just background music :'(

Love this.
Apparently this song came about because Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards were trying to get into Studio 54, but were turned away. As a result, they began to write a song beginning with the words "Ah, f**k off!" That was eventually changed to "Ah, freak out!"

Love this song. Still sounds good today. Especially the "Now Freak!" part.

After 37 years, I STILL STILL love this to death. Set a bar for being my #1 song for 8 weeks (a record not broken for over 7 years). I don't think it's EVER left my all-time top 10. Just great all around. NO single edit, thank you.

Love it! A 70s, disco classic. Like the others had said, "Good Times" is my #1 fave from them.

One of the best disco songs of all time. This is my 2nd favorite song from them after "Good Times". I enjoyed this one.
