Classic, of course. David Bowie & Mick Jagger's cover was fucking woeful though, possibly one of the worst covers ever.

I never liked any of their songs. They're like a second rate Supremes.

Van Halen ruined it just as well. I can't complain about Bowie and Jagger's version, I certainly liked it. As for this version it's a no go, I'm just not feeling it. But I do like "Heat Wave" and "No Where To Run", though.

There's no contest between MR&V and the Supremes; the Supremes were by far the better group. But MR&V did have at least one great tune: Nowhere To Run. Notably, that song was written by the Holland-Dozier-Holland team responsible for most of the Supremes hits.
Dancing In The Streets was good but couldn't approach NTR. IMO the best cover (which exceeds the original) is the one by The Mamas & The Papas. Most people have forgotten that one, but if you like this tune you should seek it out and give it a listen.

I like Martha Reeves version. I like Van Halen's cover. David Bowie and Mick Jagger's version isn't that good.

I like Martha Reeves version. I like Van Halen's cover. David Bowie and Mick Jagger's version isn't that good. The cover version (David & Mick) is OK, but that part at the beginning (when they're naming countries around the world) where David shouts, "SOUTH AMERICAAAAA!" I find quite annoying.

This was the Motown act's biggest pop hit reaching #2 in 1964 and was one of the classic hit that got Martha And The Vandellas into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame back in 1995

Martha Reeves & The Vandellas had a few good songs: "Dancing In The Street," "Nowhere To Run," and my personal favorite "Heatwave." But they can't even be mentioned in the same breath as the Supremes.

I like it too. And there's a reason the other group is called The Supremes. But give Martha and The Vandellas their due, too. The Mamas and Papas version is a bit comical in parts, and as mentioned above superior. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_v2MwzdzFsY
