I debated whether to put this in Personal charts section or this one, but I figured since it deals with a nearly 15 year old chart, probably more nostalgia readers would play along. Anyway, let me know if the clues are too hard or too easy. I started my Hot Rod Top 20 chart in early 1989, and each year I expanded my year-end chart a bit more. For 89, I just did a top 20, but for 1990, I expanded to 40, and was up to a top 100 by 1991. The chart was compiled loosely from what songs I heard on the radio during a given week, plus the charts I heard on the countdown shows I listened to at that time, Countdown America with Dick Clark, American Top 40 with Shadoe Stevens, and Casey's Top 40. Here are the first 5 clues to get us started:
40. A female artist known mostly for dance hits, she went all the way to #1 on both pop and AC with this ballad. She just missed the top on my chart, peaking at #2.
"Love Will Lead You Back" - Taylor Dayne
39. This was the third single from the latest album by this veteran artist. It was about a great place to go and hear music.
Elton John - Club At The End Of The Street
38. When this song was climbing the chart, Casey Kasem said it showed that this female artist was “ready to rock” after her previous two hits had been a ballad and a dance song.
Taylor Dayne - I'll Be Your Shelter
37. A song that deserved to be a much bigger hit than it was. My personal love for this song and the British group that performed it pushed it up to #3 on my chart, despite it failing to make much of a splash at pop radio. It did a little better on AC. It was the follow-up to a top 5 pop smash.
Tears For Fears, "Woman In Chains"
36. The single version of this song added the year “90” to the title in order to distinguish it from a previous hit which was also sung by this British singer.
George Michael - Freedom
Well, that should get you started. Hopefully I'll get a few participants with this, I know the guessing game “season” tends to be around the end of the year, but i figured I'd buck the trend a bit. ;)

39 - rock and roll mcdonalds - wesley willis? That is incorrect. Think much more mainstream. ;)

37. Tears For Fears, "Woman In Chains" That is correct. hc, "Advice.." was a top ten hit on my chart, but it didn't do quite well enough to make the top 40 of the year. :)

Time for the next round of clues.:
35. Probably the most serious hit ever from this band known for their party music. It would end up being their last top ten hit on AT40.
Poison "Something To Believe In"
34. The dance song that launched the career of the lady who sang the vocals. She went on to have several hits, and even co-wrote the theme song to a hugely popular tv show.
D-Mob introducing Cathy Dennis, "C'mon & Get My Love"
33. Her first two hits went to number one on the “Black” charts, despite the fact that she's about as black as a marshmallow. This third hit didn't quite make it a hat trick, but she did get her third straight top ten on my chart with this one.
Lisa Stansfield, "This Is The Right Time"
32. This group proved their longevity as they moved into their third decade of hit-making with this big hit about a woman with a singular purpose.
Heart, "All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You"
31. One of my favorite songs from the best album by far in the career of this lady who sadly decided later on that she needed to pull publicity stunts and make a bunch of lousy sex-themed songs instead of the good music she made on this album. This is the lowest of the three hits she has in my year-end top 40, it peaked at #2 on my chart and on Casey's Top 40.
Janet Jackson, "Alright"

31. Mariah Carey - "Vision of Love" or Janet Jackson - "(Love Will Never Do) Without You" Nope, though the 2nd artist you listed is right, just the wrong song. Both of the songs you guessed were #1 hits on Casey's Top 40.

"Come On & Get My Love" - D Mob /f/ Cathy Dennis Yep. That one's right. That one's not. "Vogue" was a #1 hit on CT40 and on my chart.

30. Probably the cheesiest song on the chart, but darn if it didn't have a catchy, one-word chorus. This group was about as huge as you can get, then disappeared as fast as you can say “rat tail.”
29. Number two hit on my chart from a British duo, it was featured in one of the most overrated movies of all time. As Queen Shanequa so delicately put it, “Cinderella story? She was a HO.”
28. This one-hit wonder has a pretty famous brother. And no, it's not Rebbie Jackson. ;) The video featured some falling sawdust.
27. Another one-hit wonder. Amazingly enough, the fact that I bought the band's follow-up single didn't send it flying up the charts. When I saw the video, I wasn't sure the lead singer had eyes, her hair covered them up pretty well.
26. This song really lived up to its title when it peaked at #11 on the Hot 100, and #2 on my chart.

All of those are right. Well, except for "The Humpty Dance." ;) My chart was only a top 20 and was pretty much an "adult top 40" chart before such a thing officially existed. My personal preference was only a small factor in the chart rankings, so even though I like Humpty, alas, he didn't do his hump on the Hot Rod Top 20. :) I'll give some more time for someone to guess #27 before I post another clue.

That was just a lucky guess. That was the only song by a band with a female lead singer from 1990 that I could think of at the time.
So, hows about the next five songs? :)
