I like at the present moment the Danny Hutton Hitters version the most, decided to add that song to my chart last year and it reached my top 10. The album track is from the soundtrack of Pretty In Pink.
Now Nik Kershaw's version hit number four in the UK and number 46 in the US yet we still hear a ton of times everywhere to this day. The year was 1984.

Good song... I've been playing my '80s rock/new wave CDs at work and I heard Nik Kershaw's version the other day.

I don't think it was a single but She Moves did a version of this one to back in 1997.

I personally like the Danny Hutton Hitters version better because honestly... it's the only one I've ever heard thanks to my copy of the "Pretty In Pink" soundtrack. Sounds like a downloading project to me.

I've never heard the Danny Hutton version, only the one from Nik Kershaw. Great hit from '84!

The Kershaw original is the definitive version, one of my favourite songs of the 80's (#4 of '84 for me). It was a nice idea of Hutton (formerly of 3 Dog Night no less) to cover the song for Pretty In Pink but not a strong version IMO... the song still has a lot to say about youth and feelings of alienation though.

They are actually an obscure female group with the name "Danny Hutton Hitters", really.
