It took his re-recording of the song actaully make the UK top 20 in at number 12. I remember the song while living in England at the time when my family and I traveled to Scotland. At first I believed it to be Joe Cocker, then I realised it was Chris Rea ("Fool If You Think It's Over"), once signed with Motown Records during the release of "Let's Dance" making a short appearance on the "Hot 100". This song is still being played all over A/C leaning music channels in businesses, I am not too sure where it peaked on the A/C charts though. Nonetheless, this was a smooth sounding jazz/pop record that was underated in so many ways.

This song was actually from 1989. The thing I remember about this song was that it took a huge drop on the AC chart soon after it peaked. It fell 9-29, but that was not the biggest drop of that year. Earlier, Deon Estus' follow-up to "Heaven Help Me", called "Spell" dropped from 9-30. That was back when the AC chart moved a lot faster. It was also when Dick Clark's "Countdown America" (now " Dick Clark's US Music Survey" ) counted down all 30 songs. It would have been interesting to hear him count down charts like that!
Oh yeah, my opinion of the song. It was actually a pretty good song. It does sound a little "beachy"

Yes, it remember it being released here in the States in 1989 (few months after my return), however what you see on my topic is the actual British pressing of the single. It was released in July of 1988 over there. Thank you for the chart facts, it was very interesting, i had no diea that it even made the top 10 on the A/C chart. Despite it's huge drop, it obviously is track that is an unforgettable classic adult record here in the States.

I'll have to listen to this track, I am a big fan off "Fool..." and found a vinyl copy of it for a buck about 10 years ago at a, I forget who does it now, but 2x a year here in New York, some library of music or something sells all there dupe copies of albums and cds providing they have an original around.
IMHO, "Fool.." is an awesome song, one of the first to use a beat box I think. And I found this out, he is actually singing to his younger sister in the song, not a younger girlfriend, "I'll buy your first good wine, i'll show you a real good time"

I loved this song! I discovered it after York remade it. I still hear the original every so often when I go to Rite Aid.

Love it. The original version was released on the album of the same name in 1986. It was a minor hit in the UK. It became a bigger hit in 1989 when the re-recording from his New Light Through Old Windows album was released.
