I heard this song a lot around late summer, 1979. It might be called "Pretty Girls", but I don't think so. There were at least two songs from around that time period by that title, but I searched a lyrics database and they weren't the same song.
The song starts out with a man with a rather low sounding voice singing, and then the chorus, with higher voices joining in went something like:
Pretty girls, here come the men Pretty girls, here come the men
That's probably not what they're singing, but I can't think of any other lyrics that would make sense. The word "men" might even be a word that ends in an "ay" sound, like "here go away", but that doesn't make any sense.
If anyone is familiar with this song, then, by all means, let me know which song it is. As I said, I heard it in the summer of 1979, so it can't be any newer than that, so the people here of my generation (i.e. mst3k) would probably be the ones who know it.
Thanks in advance.

Well, you've got me stumped. I ran through my list of 1979's top 40 hits and nothing jumped out at me sounding like that.

any chance it's pretty girls from joe jackson's debut album look sharp? lyrics don't match, but he starts out singing the line from the manfred mann song, "here she comes just a walking down the street singing..."
chorus says "pretty girls walking down the street" or words to that effect and it was released in 1979 i think.

Actually, that was one of the two songs I mentioned in the first paragraph of my first post (the other one was Melissa Manchester). I actually found a copy of "Look Sharp" in the library today and played "Pretty Girls" and it was not the same song.
