Whew! Just one more month and a week and I'll be all caught up with the CHR Flashback feature. Right now, we hop into the time machine and whiz back to the year that the Pointer Sisters were on Fire, the Doobie Brothers were telling us about What a Fool Believes, Melissa Manchester begged "Don't Cry Out Loud" and Billy Joel commanded, "Keep it to yourself, it's My Life!". Yes, it was the year 1979, and here are the 30 biggest songs, according to R&R, on February 2, 1979:

Now we take the trip back to the year I first started following the R&R charts. In fact, this is the very chart that was used the first time I listened to a show that went by their charts. It was "Countdown America" with John Leader, which started out in January, 1983. I discovered it on B96 on February 20 and the chart that was used was this one, dated February 11, 1983:
LC TC wc SONG/ARTIST 02 01 09 Shame On The Moon/Bob Seger 04 02 06 Do You Really Want To Hurt Me/Culture Club 01 03 14 Down Under/Men At Work 07 04 05 You Are/Lionel Richie 06 05 06 Stray Cat Strut/The Stray Cats 03 06 10 Allentown/Billy Joel 09 07 04 All Right/Christopher Cross 10 08 04 Hungry Like The Wolf/Duran Duran 05 09 10 Heart To Heart/Kenny Loggins 15 10 03 Billie Jean/Michael Jackson 20 11 04 Breakin' Us In Two/Joe Jackson 19 12 04 We've Got Tonight/Kenny Rogers & Sheena Easton 13 13 09 Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy/Sammy Hagar 24 14 03 One On One/Hall & Oates 23 15 02 Back On The Chain Gang/The Pretenders 08 16 13 Baby Come To Me/Patti Austin & James Ingram 11 17 15 Africa/Toto 21 18 03 Pass The Dutchie/Musical Youth 30 19 02 Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)/Journey 14 20 13 You Can't Hurry Love/Phil Collins 16 21 09 Heart Of The Night/Juice Newton 25 22 05 The Woman In Me/Donna Summer 12 23 12 The Other Guy/Little River Band 29 24 02 I've Got A Rock & Roll Heart/Eric Clapton 28 25 02 My Kind Of Lady/Supertramp 27 26 04 I Can't Stand Still/Don Henley 17 27 10 Goody Two Shoes/Adam Ant 18 28 11 Sexual Healing/Marvin Gaye XX 29 01 Mr. Roboto/Styx XX 30 01 Come On Eileen/Dexy's Midnight Runners

OK, we're up to the CHR Flashback that should have been posted on February 21. It's the earliest year we'll ever see on the CHR Flashback show. That's right, 1975 (1974 had so damn many annoying fluctuations, as far as chart points go, and occasionally they left off songs. Like one week, "Sunshine On My Shoulders" fell off of the chart from inside the Top Five, only to return the next week (AT20, 2001, anyone?)) Anyway, here is the chart from February 21, 1975:
LC TC wc SONG/ARTIST 05 01 05 Have You Never Been Mellow/Olivia Newton-John 01 02 10 Black Water/Doobie Brothers 10 03 06 My Eyes Adored You/Frankie Valli 02 04 11 Best Of My Love/The Eagles 04 05 10 You're No Good/Linda Ronstadt 06 06 11 Pick Up The Pieces/Average White Band 03 07 08 Fire/The Ohio Players 09 08 08 Lady/Styx 12 09 05 Lady Marmalade/LaBelle 07 10 12 Mandy/Barry Manilow 08 11 13 Please Mr. Postman/The Carpenters 11 12 10 Some Kind Of Wonderful 13 13 05 Roll On Down The Highway/Bachman-Turner Overdrive 14 14 08 Lonely People/America 18 15 04 Don't Call Us, We'll Call You/Sugarloaf 21 16 03 You Are So Beautiful/Joe Cocker 25 17 02 Lovin' You/Minnie Riperton 15 18 11 Doctor's Orders/Carole Douglas 23 19 03 No No Song/Ringo Starr 28 20 04 The South's Gonna Do It/Charlie Daniels Band 30 21 02 Poetry Man/Phoebe Snow 32 22 03 My Boy/Elvis Presley XX 23 01 Chevy Van/Sammy Johns 26 24 06 I'm A Woman/Maria Muldaur 16 25 10 Get Dancin'/Disco Tex & The Sex-O-Lettes 33 26 03 Up In A Puff Of Smoke/Polly Brown 38 27 02 Shame Shame Shame/Shirley & Company 20 28 14 Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds/Elton John 17 29 14 Laughter In The Rain/Neil Sedaka 36 30 03 Movin' On/Bad Company 39 31 02 Express/B.T. This next chart's date has only been used for R&R once, and will not be used again until the year 2008. That's because this happens to be the Leap Date. And since this year is a Leap Year, I decided to use so far the only Leap Year used by R&R, which was in 1980. I guess maybe it would have made sense to save this until 2008, especially since this date is so close to a previous CHR Flashback, but oh well. Here is the chart for February 29, 1980:
LC TC wc SONG/ARTIST 01 01 11 Crazy Little Thing Called Love/Queen 02 02 09 Longer/Dan Fogelberg 03 03 07 Working My Way Back To You/The Spinners 04 04 06 Him/Rupert Holmes 06 05 05 Another Brick In The Wall Pt 2/Pink Floyd 05 06 07 99/Toto 08 07 07 Desire/Andy Gibb 07 08 06 On The Radio/Donna Summer 14 09 04 Too Hot/Kool & The Gang 13 10 05 How Do I Make You/Linda Ronstadt 09 11 07 September Morn/Neil Diamond 15 12 04 Refugee/Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers 20 13 03 Ride Like The Wind/Christopher Cross 11 14 12 Yes I'm Ready/Teri DeSario w/KC 19 15 03 Give It All You've Got/Chuck Mangione 17 16 05 Back On My Feet Again/The Babys 12 17 08 An American Dream/Dirt Band f/Linda Ronstadt 23 18 02 I Can't Tell You Why/The Eagles 26 19 02 Fire Lake/Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band 21 20 05 Heartbreaker/Pat Benatar 10 21 12 Romeo's Tune/Steve Forbert XX 22 01 The Second Time Around/Shalamar 18 23 08 Daydream Believer/Anne Murray 27 24 02 Three Times In Love/Tommy James XX 25 01 Call Me/Blondie 29 26 02 Lost In Love/Air Supply XX 27 01 Special Lady/Ray Goodman & Brown 30 28 02 Come Back/The J Geils Band 22 29 06 When I Wanted You/Barry Manilow XX 30 01 Sexy Eyes/Dr. Hook
