One of IMHO, the greatest, most awesomest, classiest sounding songs of the Disco era, this song from 1979, was a true dancefloor staple for years after its release, and to me at least, shows how good disco could have been without having to pull a campy track out of the bag to keep the genre alive.
Everything about this song exudes pure class, the rhodes bell tinged piano lines that are filtered in thru most of the song (kinda like the little riff in Hall & Oates - I cant go for that) the little guitar stabs that penetrate every so often, the thumping bass line throughout the track. Vocals are kept at a minimum, fortunately, mostly a female vocalist singing "Dancer, try to take it higher" and word of that nature, but there is a vocal bridge in there as well. The last 4 minutes or so of the 8 minute+ mix is just a beautiful instrumental track, it is just totally compelling and very gorgeous to listen to; it might just be me, but I can close my eyes and see myself looking up at the bright lights in Times Square when I was 16 or so, or be driving over a bridge with my friends late at nite with my gf (well back then more like girl buddy) looking at all the lites and thinking of this song.
I give it a grade of 101.

Sry I was 7/8 years too late to see this~
Anyways, I love this song a lot. Easily one of my fav. disco songs, the breakdown in the song is awesome and even if its 8 mins long it never feels like it's nearly that long. Def. a jam for sure.

Too bad. You missed out on a lot of good disco and funk back then. Any song that is more than 5 minutes gets my applause because no song is meant to be over before it begins. Unfortunately, today's radio has become so greedy to play the same song 20 times a day that they will not touch a song that is more than 3½ minutes long. To me, that is way too short, even for a ballad. And as a result the radio playlists have shrunk dramatically, from as many as 250 songs 25 years ago to as few as 40, if not even less. That's why in 2003 I stopped listening to conventional radio on a frequent basis.
