40 years ago, this song was #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1963 for 3 weeks. & Kyu remains the only Japanese artist ever to top the US singles chart. :)
A Japanese classic? Did you guys think A Taste Of Honey did the better version? ;)

I like the original and have to give credit to it, but I also like a good English R&B version.
A Taste Of Honey took this to #3 I believe.
A lot of songs have sampled this too.

Who did the version about 10 years ago. I know it was a Boyz II Men knockoff, but not sure who. For some reason I wanna say 4PM, but I may be wrong.
Its a great song, no matter who sings it

I remember singing this song in Japanese class. I have the autobiography titled "Sakamoto Kyu (Ue wo muuite aruko)."

That version was out in early 1995 when an old girlfriend of mine broke up with me. One night, a few friends of mine went over to her house. I sang the song while my friends did the bass vocals (don't know the word for those, but I'm sure that you know what I mean) outside her bedroom window. When she started throwing garbage at us, we decided it was time to go.

I never heard the original until after I heard the 4PM version. 4PM ended up peaking at #2 on my personal chart with their version. I think it is my favorite version of the song.

The only time I ever heard this version was when Rick Dees did a "foreign language" montage once. I can't remember what it was for though. Maybe "Macarena" or "Sadeness."

First post in 14 years! I love this track. One of my favorite hits, if not my #1 favorite, hit of 1963.
