This is my favourite song of hers, by far. Such a moving, powerful yet subtle vocal. Truly perfect I think. Cilla Blacks version, released prior to Dionne's in the UK remains the biggest selling single by a British Woman ever, it was #1 for ages.
#8 Pop, #42 UK (But mostly because Cilla's version was so huge)

Awesome song, Dionne doesn't do it justice. They should have found someone with a bit more talent and conviction to sing it.

Dionne fits this song perfectly. Its an amazing song. Vonzelles version isnt quite as good as Dionnes.

Dionne fits this song perfectly. Its an amazing song. Vonzelles version isnt quite as good as Dionnes. I think Dionne is very good on this song... obviously better than Vonzelle's. But... it's kinda unfair to compare a studio version of a song... to an uncomplete live version of the song.

My favourite song by Dionne - hard to believe it came out in 1963!

Does anyone have an mp3 of this song? <<Is still disappointed that Kelly never sang this on AI1's Bacharach night like she originally intended to. Although her brief part in the medley was gorgeous.

Too much american idol talk here! Dionne's version is a CLASSIC. How can anyone say she doesn't sing it with conviction?
In the UK this was covered by Cilla Black before Dionne could even release her version. Cilla's was a massive #1 and remained the biggest selling song by a female solo artist until Cher's Believe, some 30 years later.

Dionne's version is by far the best. I never knew what a great singer she was in the early 60's until I heard this song prominently featured in a movie called "The In Crowd", made in 1988 but set in the 60's.

One of the best songs of all time. Written by legends Hal David and Burt Bacharach. I love all the the time changes....goes from 5/4 to 4/4 to 7/8 and ends in 5/8. So brilliant!! You just don't hear songs this complex musically these days on mainstream radio. Dionne's version is a masterpiece, but I also love the versions that Dusty Springfield and Luther Vandross cut. On Idol, I thought Kimberly Locke sang it really good too. I also watched back the result show from when season one did a night dedicated to Bacharach songs. They included this in the melody, with Kelly and Tamyra singing lead. That was awesome too!
