I promise, I'll get caught up with my Flashback series eventually. Meanwhile, here's the chart from April 1, 1983:
LC TC SONG/ARTIST (label)
10 01 MICHAEL McDONALD & ROBBIE DUPREE/Mockingbird (Backup)
02 02 KENNY ROGERS & BOY GEORGE/The Girl Is Mine (Ktold)
05 03 MR. T & TEENA MARIE/I Pity The Fool (Petulance)
08 04 QUINCY JONES featuring PATTI AUSTIN, JAMES INGRAM & THE KIDS FROM FAME/Just Once (Is All We Can Afford) (Monopoly)
18 05 AFTER THE FIRE/The Oogum Boogum Song (Right On)
12 06 SUZY ANDREWS/The Oogum Boogum Song (Encore)
13 07 FALCO/Das Lied Oogum Boogum (Hobnail)
09 08 LAURA BRANIGAN/Moonlight Masquerade (The Oogum Boogum Song) (DJ)
07 09 GARY PUCKETT & OXO/Whirly Girl (You'll Be A Woman Soon) (A)
03 10 GREG KIHN BAND/Yes We Kihn Kihn (UCB)
04 11 JEFFERSON SPACESHUTTLE/Amazing Grace (Still)
14 12 HALL & OATES & SEALS & CROFTS & YARBROUGH & PEOPLES & WILLIE NELSON/Gimme That Microphone, Dammit (Overload)
17 13 HUEY LEWIS & THE NUDES/Do You Believe In Clothes (Cocoon)
19 14 LEISURE SUITS/White Belts (C&B)
18 15 TOM JONES/
Well, the chart was cut off at this point. But here are that week's BREAKERS:
JARREAU
The Name Game (Alsgone)
71% of our reporters on it, but none actually on a first name basis. 32 adds this week, including: KIX102, Q93, Z101, KIX93, Q103, Z105, 96Q, KIX95, 103Z, Q92 and lots of similar-sounding stations. See Parallels, might debut on the chart next week . . . and then again, it might not. It all depends.
CHRISTOPHER CROSS
Mr. Bass Man (Varispeed)
62% of our reporters on it, although we're not sure why. 12 adds this week, including: WABC, WAYS, KSFX, WGBS, KFWB, WMCA and six more. See Parallel, will debut on the chart in the very near future. And, if you believe that . . . would you mind if we had the government store some nuclear waste in your yard?
BOY GEORGE & WILLIE NELSON with MICHAEL McDONALD
I Can't Get Next To You (Lifeboy)
60% of our reporters on it. We figure they still can't believe superagent Irving Azoff was able to talk these two into the same studio at the same time (since McDonald lives in the studio, he was available, as usual, for backup duties). With Nelson at his funkiest and George at his funniest, this remake could burn fast.
Well, that's the CHR Flashback for today. As I said, I'll try to get caught up on the March Flashbacks. March was kind of a weird month for me, so that should explain the delay.
