Actually, I can think of a lot of good artists, these first two will be really easy though.
#1 - I used to be in one of the most important alternative groups ever, but when we broke up, I still had 3 modern rock hits, all 1993-4. One of those was a Beach Boys cover. I still release stuff, although I haven't had a hit since.
#2 - Arguably, we are the nu-metal creators (considering Faith No More are just funk rock). All of our hits have been minor so far, although the biggest one can be heard in just about all modern day hard rock, ranging from Hoobastank to Lostprophets. We are defunct, and our last album came out in 1997. It had one hit, on the active rock format

Lol...I don't think they're easy at all.
2 is probably Gravity Kills.

Both of these are wrong, although you might have heard both.
Morrissey hd more hits, and Paul Westerberg was a good one, although he had a hit in 1996. However, this artist was from a band that was similarly important as The Replacements and The Smiths. One hint about the band is that they are plural and had hits from 1989-1992. The singer inverted his name after leaving the band.
#2 is a little tricky. I'm not sure everyone here's heard of them, but they do exist. Also, 2002 was the year GK released their last album... lol. The band I'm looking for have a song on the Crow soundtrack, that's a clue. That one scraped Billboard's Album Rock chart. Their biggest hit peaked at #29 on Modern Rock, though. It preceeded the one from a soundtrack. The guitarist worked on an album from a different band previously, and they are from New York.

The Rollins Band had albums released in 1999 and 2002, which is why I didn't guess it before.

1 Frank Black (of the Pixies)? 2 Danzig or Pantera? The Pixies didn't have anything on the Crow Soundtrack. The only plural names I saw there were The Stone Temple Pilots, The Violent Femmes and Nine Inch Nails. The Violent Femmes seems the logical choice but I can't think of any solo efforts by any of their members.

GordonUM guessed right: #1 is Frank Black.
#2 still hasn't been guessed, but they had a sales impact in 1992 when they got played on MTV. The Crow soundtrack one was for #2.
c670769, I hope this clarifies this. If you have that soundtrack, you can guess it, I know. The title of their biggest hit might be considered misleading.

What was I thinking? Surely you are talking about Rage Against the Machine.

Good one, but that band have an album released in 1999, which was later than this one. The title of the Crow song is a mix of two things you might have for breakfast together. A drink and food put together. You might wear this while going on a bike, as for the artist name.

Well I would then strongly argue the part about nu-metal creators, but to be fair you did say arguably. I thought Rage broke up earlier than that, I guess not. I'll let someone else guess it since it is right here in front of me.

I am just gonna give him credit for #2 anyways: Helmet is the answer on that one. I would at least call them innovators of their genre, as they were ahead of their time. They did have an influence on Korn.
Now, for the next ones: We're seen as a band, and the name is real confusing to memorize sometimes. Our name cannot be found on all searches like on Amazon.com because of the fact that that word is eliminated in search results most of the time. The surprising success came in 1993, when we were at our commercial peak. However, after that, we just covered songs from an artist, and had a top 30 for that. However, we were also alternative staples in the late-80s/early 90s.

Cheers to you for getting that one so fast. Too lazy to type another one. That was fast.
