I thought of starting a topic to talk about music trends of years gone by.
An example is I remember reading that "electronica" was expected to catch on in 1996, but then "teen pop" started catching on in 1997 instead. But I can't remember further details and I'd like to hear more on it. :)

Britney Spears was a big help in the teen movement in 1999 when "Baby One More Time" hit #1 on the pop chart. It was the first non HAC-friendly song to hit #1 since "Killing Me Softly" 3 years earlier.
Other trends:
70s - Disco early 80s - New Wave mid 90s - Alternative 1999-2000 - Latin 1999-2001 - Teen

Mid 2000s: reggaeton
I liked the trend of 2014 when everyone had a one-word song title.

I like how 2 reggaeton songs crossover in summer 2005 and all these media types were like OMG IT'S HAPPENED! DEMOGRAPHIC CHANGE! LATIN MUSIC IS POP MUSIC! And then like 3 months later nobody outside of Latin music gave 2 shits about reggaeton. Or latin music at all for that matter.
