#15 R&R Urban Chart(3 weeks at peak). How do you think this would have done if released as a single? Definitely much better than Silly Ho(made #51 Hot 100, #7 R&R CHR/Rhythmic & #13 R&R Urban).

Hot jam! Something different from TLC. Reminds me of "Come Get Some." If released after 'Unpretty' it could have been a big hit. FanMail had many potential hits but LA Reid released "Dear Lie" and said there was nothing else that was good enough to release. :(
[glow=red,2,300]I need a crunk tight ***I'M RACIST***! Make 7 figgas, laced with the platinum not the silver s**t, ***I'M RACIST***. XL stigga, 10 inch or bigga, know how to lick it and stick it wha what![/glow]

I like this song a lot, and miss the days when radio loved TLC so much that they even played EXTRA songs from the album that weren't even singles.... that did better than their singles do now.

It was catchy but had so much nonsensical swearing that even Donna Summer didn't want her sample used in the uncensored version.

A favourite for me too! This song was one of 8 Top 40 hits from the CD on MT40. I think 'FanMail' is the only album of the 2000s so far to score so many Top 40 singles for me. This song hit #9. I once made a censored version of the song. A bit tough to do. I wonder what the real censored one sounds like?

this made 15 at Urban? then how did it not hit Billboard R&B? songs were allowed to chart based on airplay alone by this point.
SIKE! It made #38. I never noticed that before. Cool. "Silly Ho" almost made top 20 tho (#21)

I love it. None of the good songsd from fan mail were released. I thought this would be a single though. I remember the 1st time my radio station played it they said "here goes another TLC hit" "i miss u so much" was a waste because it was never put to good use. That was my favorite song off the album and probably my favorite TLC song. That should have been released. Also "come on down" a good Diane Warren song thatw asnt put to good use. so sad. :(

Very obnoxious, but it's still one of my favorites on "FanMail."

Not releasing this was a BIG career misstep for them.

The Donna Summer interpolation has always been my favorite part of the song. I have to listen to the clean version which itself is not bad. I love the structure, part slow jam (verses) and part uptempo (hooks and Lisa’s rap). It’s their Top 5 for me.

I didn't know about the Donna Summer interpolation, was just listening to that version this morning. Love it.

Gods, the Fan Mail era was handled so badly after No Scrubs and Unpretty peaked.

Gods, the Fan Mail era was handled so badly after No Scrubs and Unpretty peaked. I find FanMail a bit overrated as an album, but it also shouldn't have lost all momentum after "Unpretty." I'm not sure what they were thinking with "Dear Lie" when there were several jams (including "I'm Good At Being Bad") and even other ballads as options. I'm also not sure why the album era ended after "Dear Lie." Was it due to label drama or something?

This video explains it better than i can Thanks but not sure when I’ll have an hour and a half to watch it lol LOL, that's what 2x speed is for on YouTube. I think the cliff notes version is the group spent too much time together and tensions were rising, so they opted not to extend the tour into 2000 despite demand being there globally and domestically. Lisa also was itching to start her solo career and was less connected to the album than the other two. There was also no consensus on a follow-up to Unpretty and radio didn't want to let go of No Scrubs or Unpretty anyway. So the whole era fizzled out by Nov/Dec 1999 and I guess the label was happy with 2 #1 hits and several million sold that they didn't care about keeping it going if the group didn't want to.

"Fanmail" is definitely overrated. I like "3D" infinitely more (Left Eye's copy and pasted vocals and all) But this is a jam!
