As for lead singles, remind me again which massive hit it was that pushed the Maxwell sales so high last week ? "Pretty Wings". It is currently #2 R&B. Ha Ha, well that told me. Anyway my point is that album sales are bit more complicated than just who has the biggest singles. |

He also has two songs in the Top 10 on Urban AC (#1 and #8). Never underestimate the power of a loyal, album buying AC audience :). Hopefully there will be plenty of AC/HAC friendly songs on album #2. IMO that's one of the keys to Leona's success...not throwaway uptempos (although one wouldn't hurt). She needs to continue with midtempos and they should be more aggressive pushing the songs to AC and HAC. I was surprised Footprints was never pushed to Christian. They needs to explore different directions not just pop radio. |

Despite her high sales, I don't think Leona was ever really that big here. Everybody knows the song, but I don't get the sense people know who Leona is. She's still "that girl who sang Bleeding Love". Mostly because she never seemed to really have any high profile promotion here. I don't know, I may be off. She had one of the biggest promo tours I've ever seen. The problem was that the song wound up being much than she was, which was exacerbated by her lack of charisma. |

If her song was more famous than she was as some of you are claiming she wouldn't have sold as many albums as she did. People would just buy the single instead. Again despite only having 1 big hit she has yet to be outsold by people that had multiple smash hits like GaGa or Katy Perry.
The hate is running strong in this thread mostly from the lambs, not surprisingly. But for all the lack of personality, charisma, etc as you all are claiming she still managed to outsell Mariah in her home country.
The bottom line is that if she gets great promo again and stronger material this time around she will be just fine.
Some of you should wait just a little longer before crossing her off the list.

Leona's personality is a moot factor. She needs better songs and more oomph in her voice. The album had some highlights but alot of it was a cheese fest too.

Unless you sit around watching interviews on youtube it really shouldn't matter. I'm here for the talent. But whatevz, people say Beyonce & Alicia have bland personalities & yet they're two of the most talented, successful female artists around. |
