Looks like I Got You is the next single in the UK too...at least that's how it was introduced on tonights National Lottery show on which Leona performed... now there's a turn-up for the books!
Ho-hum.... I'm kinda bit disappointed actually...I was hoping for OMH over here and IGY in N.America to see how they were each received by radio and the gen public.
Time will tell now how well it does....

Leona has become the female Mario. Leona Lewis's "Bleeding Love" = "Let me love you". Both are great singers but people find them boring and they struggle to have their songs take off. Mario album debut at number 9 and 2nd week dropped all the way to 40 just like Leona's album debut at 13 and fell in the 40's the 2nd week. Unlike Mario J records gave Leona way more promotion and she still sold low. I love Leona's album and her voice is incredible she has a lot of powerful ballads maybe "Happy" wasn't the right choice for the first single but whatever she was going to put out first was going to go up against "Bleeding love".

J Records did not spend a lot of money on promotion for Leona's second album. They didn't go overboard like they did with her first album.
Alicia Keys and Whitney Houston got most of the promo budget from J/Arista Records.
However, Leona did get better promotion than some artists on the J Records label.
J Records thought that "Happy" would be a hit on radio and that the sales would come from the success of that single. But, it didn't happen. And that's why they are now going with the strongest single on that album, "I Got You."

Watching her BBC mini concert show, she looked tired and worn out. She also didn't sing as well as she normally does. [Obviously, this is Leona, and her worse performances are miles better than the majority of live performances of other singers out there. Rhianna on X Factor last Saturday is an example!]

Her vocals are sounding great on this. Love the intro/outro and the slight futuristic theme, should fit the movie well.

Interesting song. Has an epic/haunting vibe, I like it. She has a really great voice. She could have a career just singing motion picture theme songs. Just has one of those voices.

I don't like that song at all! I find it boring and it doesn't sound epic to me at all.

Wow, I thought for a few seconds I was listening to Amy Lee (seriously)...Not feeling that song at all, though. Those BBC live concert posts above are incredible. Leona has SUCH a nice live voice.

Its great you think that as Leona had a throat infection and had to cancel promo just the day before those performances. She's a trooper though :)

I think she flips a bit too much at times. I get that it's a stylistic thing, but sometimes it can be a bit grating.

UK Album Charts (December 6, 2009)
#9 "Echo" 64,555
UK Total Album Sales= 301,369
"Echo" has been certified 2x Platinum by the BPI.
Note: For some reason Sony Music UK had Leona's album certified 2x Platinum before it reached sales of 600,000 units.

And that's why they are now going with the strongest single on that album, "I Got You." Actually, Whitney's budget was mostly for her listening parties, she didn't do many us promo, she did mostly euro promo in france, italy, germany and uk and it's paid off 2mil shipped worldwide, 818k us, 1.5mil ww Alicia- has had the most promo budget imo, she's beem promoting from sept/oct and has a very hectic promo schedule net week Leona- she's had decent promo- she definitely had more high profile promo than mario- divas live, kimmel, ellen, dwts, etc and her album has not performed at the standards that they should- less than 100k for 2 wks and happy not doing much better. If 3rd week, this album sells under 40k, it's almost a wrap here unless re-released with a better mix of songs. J records should have abandoned happy a long time ago and sent another song to radio

HAPPY had no hit potential ever. I claimed this since DAY ONE. It was another boring Ryan Tedder song. She should have went straight hip-hop/R&B for the new CD. People would have liked the fresh of breath air. Whatever. Her career in the US is pretty much dead now.

I think Leona next album should be all r&b. She's great at pop ballads but i think she'll be better at r&b songs. "I can't breathe" gave us a taste of what it'll be like if she did.

To those of you who say Leona should go Hip Pop, give up singing for whispering, and add a bunch of rappers who don't understand the art of Hip Hop to sell cheap trash: you're mistaken. You're either a scammer yourself or a young kid promoted into it for definition cool or "black". Here's the deal: the industry hides behind definitions and gives the African-American community a bad name by selling low quality trash in naming it part of culture. Therefore this is not wanted by neither them, nor others.
The sound is dying, the scam is over. To me the worst thing that can happen to a Powerhouse singer like Leona is going R&B/Hip Hop = Hip Pop = soulless R&B with Pop music sensibilities and Rap music beats = obsolete sound. Its mixture is obsolete and considered the equivalent of low quality music. Try it: I guarantee you no sales for that kind of thing, it's not wanted. Any so called artist, any producer who frauds like that should be put straight out of business from now on.
So I'd say it's artistic sucicide. I'll proudly put her on my blacklist, and I'm sure the general audience and 80% of her fanbase will follow. Look where Mariah's MOAIA is going. That's that trash accompanied by a few one off sounds. Turning to whispering and cheap annoying sound by releasing music people like you and I can create on our home computers in a heartbeat. It's not what music fans want, and it's not doing the numbers. Epitome of bad which includes planet boredom, atrocious sound and overall cheap productions = failure.
If I Can't Breath is any indication: I think she sounds annoying already on the chorus where channeling Mariah's whisper mess. I can't breah-iii-iii-eath. I'll skip for that aspect alone, not to mention a whole album in that direction.
Then what should Leona do? I say she should up her bland ballad status with more power and attitude. Pop Rock, Dance Pop, R&B/Soul, Jazz, New Age, whatever. It's all about the right elements and structures of the songs, regardless of working genre first of all. There should be no limitation in the art of sound. Just create good music. IMO.

^^ I'm not saying she should go all the way R&B and definitely not hip-hop. I was thinking she should do a handful of r&b songs for her next album. And like you were saying she should up her bland ballad with more power and attitude i think doing more r&b will help her with that. Pop/Rock want help her at all and she said in a interview she doesn't like heavy metal. Dance/Pop eh "outta my head" was not Leona's best song and she's not a dancer so dance/pop is outta the question. So that leaves R&B/Soul and Jazz wich is more Leona's style it's laid back but still let's her amazing vocals shine through and it will bring more attitude to her style.

^Leonas records before X-Factor were r'n'b so I wouldn't rule it out. Yes i heard some of her r&b songs. "Private party" with Ludacris was great her voice fitted perfectly. I would love for her to do more songs like that. And even her song with Cassidy "Nowhere left to go" it was r&b ish she sound good on it she had more attitude.

Understood, someone else mentioned Hip Hop though. Figured I'd address before the frauds see a way in again. Won't do anyway, but just thought I'd contribute to a more speedy recovery of music. Have it clear that artists like Leona should not limit their God given talents as that's what they're about. The presentation of a musical essence lacking all the way through the past decade. Pop Rock, AOR would be something for Leona IMO. It's the mainstream Pop Rock last seen popular in the 1980's and the perfect way for artists to combine vocal power with melody and attitude. For smooth aspects I say definitely well produced R&B and Soul as well as Jazz. But also melodic so that it'll have Pop appeal. No watered down sound, no minimal, Alternative production. Dance Pop she can continue to explore as well. One song doesn't represent an entire genre, sound. These are all different formulas, elements in music. It's about the right combination rather than working genre. Leona saying she doesn't like Heavy Metal I can understand. She means Death Metal and all that. The Hard Rock/Pop Metal last seen popular in the 1980's and early 90's has mass appeal though. That is Heavy Metal in Pop approach, considered its true form by many. All the rest is an alternative without mass appeal. Music created by society outcasts just to be weird and out there. That lacks mass appeal. But I think Leona would like a taste of former. It's a harded edged Pop Rock. Not that she needs to go Hard Rock/Heavy Metal, but I wouldn't write off some Classic Rock approach like she did with Led Zep's Jimmy Page. Pop Rock seems right though. My opinion.
