Why on earth would she go pop/rock? Her voice is way to iconic for that genre. Her and her team have chose the perfect direction for this album...and they know what they're doing alot better than you do.

Her and her team have chose the perfect direction for this album...and they know what they're doing alot better than you do. I like both genres so I’d like it either way but say Rock over R&B as there’s no such thing around today. Another huge market denied. The ideal however is both to provide us with diversity for Leona proving herself an artist over a one genre singer. Rock music, Pop Rock would definitely bring something different to the table. Pop hasn’t touched the genre since the early 90’s, it’s dead. There are a few singers out doing it but nothing impressive to my likings. The sound that passes on for it is beyond horrible with an image even worse. This generation doesn’t know what it is anymore but for those of you who remember up until the 80’s and early 90’s it used to really rule. The singer Leona is she would do it justice and put it back on the map in serious approach. Iconic voices are a perfect mix with the genre but since nobody did it this past decade you don't know. You’ll get your R&B anyway. I just hope no Hip Hop Pop as that wouldn’t flatter her IMO.

From the Star.... Leona Lewis is turning to the brains behind Girls Aloud’s genius pop songs for her second album. Music Week’s producer of the year receipients Xenomania penned five tracks for the follow-up to the Hackney gal’s multi million selling Spirit. Songwriter Miranda Cooper told me: “We are not going to change Leona’s style but it’s interesting for us to do something downbeat, tragic songs with a twist”. Miranda and Xenomania other half Brian Higgins also won Music Sync of the Year for Gabriella Climi’s Sweet About me. Excited to see what they came up with.

Better In Time / Forgive Me I Will Be / The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face / The beginning of Whatever It Takes Whatever It Takes Run / Bleeding Love Her vocals were flawless & I think that's one of her best performances of Bleeding Love. She nailed the runs, perfect breath control. ![:d](http://images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif)

LEONA LEWIS - LEWIS KEEPS QUIET FOR GIGSwww.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/article/lewis%20keeps%20quiet%20for%20gigs_1100660LEONA LEWIS is so terrified of losing her voice while performing, she refuses to speak for days before she takes the stage. The Bleeding Love hitmaker goes to extreme measures to ensure she keeps her vocal chords in good shape. And the pop star even abstains from speaking in a bid to ensure her pipes are ready to belt out the high notes. She explains, "Before a big show I have to do 'vocal rest' where I’m not allowed to speak for two days. "It's so boring having to write notes to everyone. I'd like a machine where I can just think and it comes out in a robot voice - that would be amazing. "I get scared of things not panning out the way I want them to. I wonder what I'd do if anything happened to my voice. That’s why I look after myself so much." And the British singer admits the ritual has an effect on her social life: "I'll say, 'I can’t talk to you for long', and 'I can’t do this or that because I’m doing a show'. "I'll miss nights out because I can't be talking over loud music. I get panicked in case something happens.” 15/04/2009

Sloppy journalism much? She didn't even say the first two quotes, Mariah did. How do these reporters get paid? ![:-x](http://images.proboards.com/lipsrsealed.gif) The original article is here: Leona Lewis refuses to say more than a few words to people because she wants to protect her voice.
The 'X Factor' winner is so terrified of losing her voice she never shouts and keeps small talk to a minimum.
She said: "I get scared of things not panning out the way I want them to. I wonder what I'd do if anything happened to my voice. That's why I look after myself so much. "I'll say, 'I can't talk to you for too long', and 'I can't do this or that because I'm doing a show'. I'll miss nights out because I can't be talking over loud music. I get panicked in case something happens."
But the 24-year-old star is not worried about losing her fame and fortune - she just loves singing, and would be devastated if she couldn't do it anymore.
She said: "Singing is an escape. When I sing, I go somewhere else, out of this world. It's another place where I'm free to do whatever I want. It's like a dream. It's my favourite colour, pastel pink, and there's just me there."
Leona isn't the only singer who goes to extremes to protect her voice - Mariah Carey doesn't say a word for two days before a concert.
The 'Touch My Body' star previously said: "Before a big show I have to do 'vocal rest' where I'm not allowed to speak for two days. It's so boring having to write notes to everyone! I need Stephen Hawking's voice machine for when I'm on vocal rest. "I'd like a machine where I can just think and it comes out in a robot voice - that would be amazing!"www.chinadaily.com.cn/showbiz/2009-04/13/content_7671880.htm& I wonder if that's legit to be honest. She's in the US recording her album, why would she talk to some random Chinese newspaper? lol.

Her voice is way to iconic for that genre. Iconic? Let's not get ahead of ourselves. She isn't Mariah, Christina or Whitney.

Vocally she is right up there with all three. I actually think Christina doesn't belong in that group.

I would argue Christina deserves to be in it far more than Leona, in time though Leona could be at the current rate of improvement be up there and higher - not yet though

Iconic isn't really the best word to use. Vocal ability has nothing to do with being iconic, it's more about dominating the music scene for a long period of time. And Leona is just on her debut, lol. I agree that her voice wouldn't fit pop/rock well though. Kelly Clarkson & P!nk have the natural grit to pull that off. Leona has a much more classic sounding voice, perfect for pop/smooth R&B. The last thing I want is her to get all hoarse and raspy singing rock songs. ![:-x](http://images.proboards.com/lipsrsealed.gif)

Don't prejudice a dead genre. Kelly Clarkson and P!nk don't have the quality Leona has. Melodic Rock as in Hard Rock and AOR has an alternative in power vocal Rock as opposed to the 00's scene. Go back up to the 80's and early 90's and find out. It's a hole in the market.

He wanted a few vocal Rock examples so here we are. Your demand is a rehash of everything currently already out there. Mine is diversity. Always looking for improvement.

No the public demand is not to hear 80's power rock ballads and music inspired by bands like Europe and Toto. ![:-x](http://images.proboards.com/lipsrsealed.gif) I don't know what country you're from. Maybe there's demand there, but in the United States that music is something everyone wants to leave in the past.

BETTER IN TIME was actually the single that KILLED the album. While it didn't flop, it just was the most blandest and weakest follow-up ever.
Doing FORGIVE ME as 2nd and ANGEL/or YESTERDAY as 3rd, and I WILL BE as 4th would have kept the album selling WELL into this year. Instead the label went the E=MC2 route and dropped the ball.

Absolute nonsense. Without Better In Time the album wouldn't have sailed over a million sales. Forgive Me would not have sold albums at all, it's not that kind of song. Don't know how you can suggest Angel after calling Better In Time bland. ![:-x](http://images.proboards.com/lipsrsealed.gif)

I think Leona should get Snow Patrol, Chris Martin and Keane to write songs for her. 'Run' really showed were her strengths lie. I don't think she really has anything to offer the RnB world that other singers don't do better. Forgive Me was an OK tune but completely lacking in personality and as a result it wasn't a particularly big hit anywhere.
If she just works with the same people everybody else is (Timbaland, Ryan Tedder etc) she's in danger of blending in with the pack.
Although Xenomania should be very interesting...

The fact that it didn't even reach the Top 10 on the Hot 100 despite getting tons of promo and being released on the back of a monster like Bleeding Love is very telling. It would've made the perfect 3rd single. Bleeding Love Forgive Me Better in time Take A Bow With those releases the album would be closing in on 2XP right now. More importantly she would have momentum going and would continue to be in the spotlight. I hope they can revive her momentum with the second album but they basically have to start from the bottom again ![:-x](http://images.proboards.com/lipsrsealed.gif)

Good post, very true. Although Leona was the spark that pushed Ryan Tedder to be "Producer of the moment", she should work with him again.
