One of her best eras to date. This era truly defined her as LEGEND for me. She stuck with it and really went FOR it.

One of her best eras to date. This era truly defined her as LEGEND for me. She stuck with it and really went FOR it. Ironically, one of the biggest criticisms against her during this period was that she was already a Legend and that what she was doing during this period was simply unnecessary.

This is one of my favourite albums by her, probably my third after Bedtime Stories and Ray Of Light.
Bad Girl, Waiting, Thief Of Hearts, Words and Where Life Begins are all amazing songs.
I wish we could have still have a Madge that truly cares about what kind of music she makes. :(

I really love this album. The first time I listened to it, I was surprised that "Erotica" and "Where Life Begins" were the only songs matching up with the oversexified controversy that exploded at the time.
Track ranking:* 1. Erotica 1. Fever 1. Bye Bye Baby 1. Deeper and Deeper 1. Where Life Begins 1. Bad Girl 1. Waiting 1. Thief of Hearts 1. Words 1. Rain 1. Secret Garden 1. Why's It So Hard 1. In This Life
*I have the edited version w/o "Did You Do It?"

I downloaded this entire album 2 weeks ago. It's one of her best. I loved Secret Garden and In This Life a lot.

it's funny how some people rank Erotica and Bedtime Stories as her best tho the majority think those are her worst, myself included. Just an observation.
for me, nothing beats Confessions on a Dancefloor. Nothing.

I love all of the singles from this album. 'Waiting' and 'Secret Garden' are especially amazing. <3

It took me a long time to get into this album, but it's great. I always skip "Bye Bye Baby", though.

Erotica is one of her better albums. It is an important album in her career. With this album and Sex book, she lost a lot of fans but diehard ones loved her even more - me included.

I heard this album for the 1st time today due to this Music Club I'm in on another forum. I really enjoyed this album. Pleasantly surprised how she incorporated New Jack Swing, a tad bit of Jazz, Hip-Hop & R&B into these dance songs.
I love the messages, the sounds, the influences & of course, her tenacity. She was the only Pop star to make a complete 180 when everyone else were in the same lane.
My fave track would have to be:
- Erotica - Deeper and Deeper - Bad Girl - Waiting - Rain
The only issue I have w/this album is the backtracks on a lot of the songs on here sounds like 'Vogue'.

Erotica, Deeper and Deeper, Bad Girl, and Rain are all amazing. I like the rest of the album, although none of the other songs really stand out for me. But I don't hate any of the other songs, either. My version doesn't have "Did You Do It" on it.

My second favorite album of hers, behind Bedtime Stories. Wowzers, time changes everything. This is like my 5th or 6th fave album by her now.

Really good and colorful (varied) album. I was upset when I found out D&D had only reached #7. I listened to AT40 at that time so I thought its peak was #2 as in that chart. I loved the fact she incorporated flamenco music in that song and it was cool that she reprised Vogue. Fun. Then I was furious at the fact that Rain was not a hit!! Great videos this era, too. And album tracks that could've been singles (I love BBB). An under appreciated album for sure.

"Rain" WAS a hit. It went to like #14 on the Hot 100.

I've really grown to appreciate this album. I got a copy of it for my 12th birthday (cassette) because I loved 'Rain' but I never gave the album a good listen (other than the singles) until recently. 'Waiting' especially is fantastic.

I love the album. "Did You Do It?" is my least favorite, being out of place and essentially not really a Madonna song, but I'm down with the rest. In fact, it's my second favorite of her albums after Ray of Light, although her self-titled album comes close behind those for me.

I was reading through this thread and realized I never really gave an opinion on this album. :o Even though I was RIDICULOUSLY OBSESSED with Madonna from 2001-2004 and had to own every single album/single from her ever, I actually did not purchase Erotica until last year. The reason for this is because the day I purchased GHV2 I believe it was, I said to my brother in the car, "Now all I need is Like A Prayer, True Blue, and Erotica and my Madonna album collection will be complete!" My Dad heard me and he was like BITCH YOU AIN'T GETTIN' EROTICA!!11 Well that's not what he really said otherwise that would be incredibly weird. But he wouldn't let me get it I guess because I was a kid and he knew about all the controversy surrounding her at the time that album came out so I had to wait 11 years to finally buy it on Amazon for $2.99 Honestly, I fucking LOVE this album. I'm not sure whether I prefer this or Bedtime Stories but both would be among my top two favorite Madonna albums. I hate when people write off this album thinking the whole thing is about sex when there is actually some really personal, well-written songs on here ("In This Life", anyone?). I love the variety as well - you have dance/pop songs like "Deeper And Deeper", R&B/jazz-esque songs like "Waiting", and of course the anti-homewrecker ANTHEM, "Thief Of Hearts". I only have two critiques about this album - I could never get into "Secret Garden" and the song "Did You Do It?" was COMPLETELY unnecessary. Here's how I'd rank all the tracks: 1. Deeper And Deeper 2. Bad Girl 3. Thief Of Hearts 4. Rain 5. Waiting 6. Where Life Begins 7. Erotica 8. Words 9. In This Life 10. Fever 11. Why's It So Hard 12. Bye Bye Baby 13. Secret Garden 14. Did You Do It?

Rather than do the same thing twice, they referenced "Vogue" in "Deeper and Deeper." :)
It's still not near the top of my M albums list, but it is good. It's just a chilly alternative (barring "Rain") to her other work.
I watched some of the non-Celebration videos the other night- damn, "Bad Girl" is such a fine video. As are many, many others in her catalog, of course.

As mentioned by me 3 years ago, I inherited the edited version from my aunt which didn't have "Did You Do It?" on it, which I think only helped the album. The only other obvious censoring is bleeping out "You f*^$ed it up!!!" at the end of the "Bye Bye Baby." It just flows so well into "Secret Garden" without the rap break in DYDI. I hadn't even heard DYDI until last year when I chose to play it on Spotify and discovered what it was.
