Queen Latifah may be well known for her acting chops but let's not forget that rapping is what put her on the map. The Queen will be returning to her musical roots and is working with Dr. Dre on her latest rap album. According to reports, she has been finishing up the currently untitled album with Dre and hip-hop vet LL Cool J. "They pretty much did the whole album," she confirmed in a recent interview. "My boy Kenny Flav did one track and I think might do two more. Missy [Elliot] and Swizz Beatz are the only two people I have left. But they're mixing it right now." Fellow rapper-turned-actor Ludacris also wrote a song for the album. Among the titles that she is considering is "The L-word." Due to constant questioning of her sexuality, the Queen said that such a name would be a playful response to the rumors. "Since people want to play games, I like to jab back sometimes just for fun," she said. "But I'm like, 'Nah, that's too much energy wasted.'" The album is slated for release this winter on Motown records. What do you think?

I'm not as excited for this project because I love her as a rapper but she's not taking the time out to write any of her own rhymes. I need her more involved. If we get another Black Reign from her, I might pee my pants.

Queen Latifah Returns to Rap in MarchQueen Latifah is headed back to where she started—rapping. The Oscar-nominated actress will depart from her last two jazz albums and return to her roots with her first hip-hop album in 11 years, scheduled for release in March. “The last two albums have been kinda jazzy, standards, eclectic, but this one is hip-hop, dance. It’s back to the roots,” she told Jay Leno on “The Tonight Show” about her first rap album since 1998’s Order in the Court. “It’s like all the original Queen Latifah, ‘U.N.I.T.Y.,’ ‘Ladies First’ feel, but bring that to now,” added the host of Wednesday’s 35th Annual People’s Choice Awards. “It’s sick, it’s a banger!” The 38-year-old entertainer, whose real name is Dana Owens, made her musical debut in 1989 with All Hail the Queen, an album that spawned the female anthem “Ladies First.” Her arguably most-acclaimed hit came in 1994 when she released the Grammy Award-winning “U.N.I.T.Y.” off Black Reign. www.rap-up.com/2009/01/07/queen-latifah-returns-to-rap-in-march/

I like Queen Latifah's rap songs. Her raps are usually around social issues. I'm glad that she's doing a new rap album. There has been a huge void of female MCs on the airplay charts.

I cant wait for this record. But it wasn't up until a soundtrack in the late 90s that I even knew Queen Latifah could actually sing!

Latifah always sang the chorus in her rap songs. Remember "Just Another Day?"

Queen Latifah is so far away from being a has been.
Queen Latifah is an Oscar nominated actress. She is getting lots of movie roles. Plus she has endorsement deals such as the one with Cover Girl Cosmetics and she has her own line within Cover Girl Cosmetics called the "Queen Collection." And she is well respected for her jazz album.

www.variety.com/article/VR1118001719.html?categoryid=13&cs=1Posted: Thurs., Mar. 26, 2009 Latifah is 'Wright' for Fox Searchlight Actress to star in romantic comedy By TATIANA SIEGEL Queen Latifah will star in the romantic comedy "Just Wright" for Fox Searchlight. Project had been set up six years ago at Disney but was put into turnaround and picked up by Searchlight. Dubbed a modern-day Cinderella tale, story centers on a female physical therapist who falls in love with a basketball player while helping him recover from a career-threatening injury. Searchlight, which recently teamed with Latifah on "The Secret Life of Bees," is eyeing a late May start date. Latifah and her Flavor Unit partner Shakim Compere are producing alongside Debra Martin Chase. Film marks the second romantic comedy that Latifah has toplined. Paramount's "Last Holiday" repped her previous foray into the genre. The "Hairspray" star is repped by WMA.

They need to remix "Chains" and send it to the clubs because that's about all she can hope for with this song.

I just heard Chains. I could've sworn this album was being billed as her return to hip-hop.

I LOVE this song and am now anxious to see what her new album will be like being that this is not a rap "song".
