Wow, that's fast!
Congrats to Darius for breaking the two-weeks-at-#1 barrier! Looks like he'll stop at 3 weeks though.

Oh wow - Mark Chesutt? That's a shocker.
What is the AI level at #60, like .15?

I believe that country radio is afraid of not letting Darious reach #1 because he is black. They don't want to be called racists. They won't let a woman over 35 reach #1 ever again unless she is married to President Obama. So this is why Rissi Palmer hit #1! Thanks for the insight!

Oh wow - Mark Chesutt? That's a shocker. What is the AI level at #60, like .15? It's pretty weak, I'm guessing somewhere around .25. There just aren't any new songs right now. I think it came down to Mark and Randy Owen, both having in the .2-.25 range, but that's just my speculation. Several songs are going for adds in the next few weeks (Jo Dee, Gretchen, Bucky, and a few more) so hopefully it picks up in the coming weeks.

Billboard Chart Alert• Randy Travis is the first artist in 27 years to send a title to the top 10 on Hot Country Songs twice, as Carrie Underwood's cover of his 1988 chart-topper, "I Told You So," on which he's featured, rises 11-9. No artist had taken the same composition into the top 10 in updated form since Dolly Parton reigned with her original "I Will Always Love You" in 1974 and a rerecording in 1982. (A third take, with Vince Gill, climbed to No. 15 in 1995.) (Plus, the debuts...)...Martina McBride's "Shine" at No. 10 with 41,000... ...Eric Church's "Carolina" at No. 17 with 31,000...

One more debut for the country chart:Interesting to see Eric Church sell just about as many copies as John Rich despite John Rich's top-15 airplay and aggressive self-promotion.

(this has more info than the chart alert posted above)Billboard Chart BeatALL 'TOLD,' UNDERWOOD, TRAVIS BACK IN TOP 10: Randy Travis becomes the first artist in 27 years to send a title into the top 10 twice on Hot Country Songs, as Carrie Underwood's cover of his 1988 chart-topper, "I Told You So," on which he's featured, rises 11-9. Until Travis this week, no artist had taken the same composition into the top 10 in updated form since Dolly Parton reigned with her original "I Will Always Love You" in 1974 and a re-recording in 1982 (a third take, with Vince Gill, climbed to No. 15 in 1995). The collaboration, Travis' 30th top 10 and his first since the No. 1 "Three Wooden Crosses" in 2003, marks the first top 10 cover of a prior top 10 by any artist since Blake Shelton rose to No. 10 in June 2005 with a remake of Conway Twitty's 1988 No. 7 ballad "Goodbye Time." Underwood's album "Carnival Ride," which includes the original solo recording of "Told," the version that country radio first played before the rendition featuring Travis was serviced, now boasts its fifth top 10 on Hot Country Songs. The first four - "So Small," "All-American Girl," "Last Name" and "Just a Dream" - all reached the summit. Underwood joins a select list of artists to score five Hot Country Songs top 10s from a single album released since 2000. Here are the eight albums in that span to achieve the fivefold honor: Carrie Underwood," Carnival Ride," 2007-09 Tim McGraw, "Let It Go," 2007-09 Brad Paisley, "5th Gear," 2007-08 Taylor Swift, "Taylor Swift," 2006-08 Kenny Chesney, "The Road and the Radio," 2005-06 Keith Urban, "Be Here," 2004-06 Kenny Chesney, "When the Sun Goes Down," 2004-05 Kenny Chesney, "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems," 2002-03

Billboard Chart Beat: URBAN COWBOY: Keith Urban celebrates his first No. 1 on the Billboard 200, as his "Defying Gravity" set arrives atop the list with 171,000 sold. The country star had previously climbed as high as No. 3 twice, with "Be Here" in 2004 and "Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing" in 2006. On Top Country Albums, "Gravity" is his third chart-topper. FROM A PRINCE TO A KING: On the heels of being honored as the Academy of Country Music's top act of the decade, George Strait scores his record-padding 44th No. 1 on Hot Country Songs, as "River of Love" rolls 3-1.The song extends the King of Country's record set when "Give It Away" became his 41st No. 1 in September 2006, surpassing the mark of 40 trips to the summit which fellow legend Conway Twitty held for 20 years; the late Twitty logged his 40th No. 1, "Desperado Love," in September 1986. Strait had matched Twitty's total when "She Let Herself Go" ascended to the top in January 2006. "River" is Strait's first No. 1 since "I Saw God Today" last May. He first led with "Fool Hearted Memory" on the chart dated Aug. 28, 1982. Recorded Sunday (April 6), "George Strait: ACM Artist of the Decade All Star Concert" will air on CBS May 27, featuring Jamie Foxx, Alan Jackson and Taylor Swift among its packed lineup.

Billboard Chart Alert: • Rascal Flatts logs its fourth No. 1 on the Billboard 200, the most of any group this decade, as the trio's sixth set of new songs, "Unstoppable," bows with 351,000 copies. That's the band's third-fattest opening week and its biggest one-week sum since "Still Feels Good" scanned 547,000 copies during its debut week on the Oct. 13, 2007, chart. The trio's biggest Nielsen SoundScan week happened when "Me and My Gang" blew in with 722,000 copies in the April 22, 2006, issue. "Unstoppable" removes the trio from a six-way tie, as Dave Matthews Band, Disturbed, Linkin Park, Staind and System of a Down have also scored three pole-sitters. "Unstoppable," which marks the group's fifth No. 1 on Top Country Albums, yields Rascal Flatts' 10th No. 1 on Hot Country Songs as "Here Comes Goodbye" leaps 6-1. •... Jason Aldean matches his previous best Billboard 200 rank with his biggest one-week sum to date, as "Wide Open" pops on at No. 4 with 109,000 copies. Aldean's third set of new material starts at No. 2 on Top Country Albums, where his prior set, "Relentless," logged his previous best Nielsen SoundScan week when it bowed atop the June 16, 2007, chart with 98,000 units and opened at No. 4 on the big chart. • ... Next up is Taylor Swift's "Fearless," which nearly doubles to 82,000 while moving 10-6. Last week's chart-topper, Keith Urban's "Defying Gravity," tumbles to No. 7 at 72,000 (down 58%)... • A combination of the April 5 Academy of Country Music Awards broadcast on CBS and Easter week fuels this week's sales. Among those posting large increases over last week are Carrie Underwood's "Carnival Ride," which leaps 34-16 (32,000, up 99%); Taylor Swift's "Taylor Swift," which speeds 38-21 (26,000, up 80%); Sugarland's "Love on the Inside," which vaults 50-22 (25,000, up 112%)...

Billboard Chart Beat: AIN'T NO 'STOP'-ING THEM NOW: Rascal Flatts' new album "Unstoppable" is appropriately titled, bowing atop the Billboard 200 with 351,000 copies sold. The set is the trio's fourth No. 1, lifting the act into a solo share of first place for most No. 1s by a group this decade. The band had been tied in the '00s with Dave Matthews Band, Disturbed, Linkin Park, Staind and System of a Down with three leaders apiece. "Unstoppable" also joins an exclusive club of albums by country duos or groups to top the Billboard 200 since the chart converted to Nielsen SoundScan data in May 1991. In that span, just 10 of 444 No. 1s have belonged to country duos or groups. Notably, more than half of those 10 have reigned in the last three years. Here are those elite titles, along with their first and total weeks at No. 1: Eagles, "Hell Freezes Over," Nov. 26, 1994 (2) Dixie Chicks, "Fly," Sept. 18, 1999 (2) Dixie Chicks, "Home," Sept. 14, 2002 (4) Rascal Flatts, "Feels Like Today," Oct. 16, 2004 (1) Rascal Flatts, "Me and My Gang," April 22, 2006 (3) Dixie Chicks, "Taking the Long Way," June 10, 2006 (2) Rascal Flatts, "Still Feels Good," Oct. 13, 2007 (1) Eagles, "Long Road Out of Eden," Nov. 17, 2007 (1) Sugarland, "Love on the Inside," Aug. 16, 2008 (1) Rascal Flatts, "Unstoppable," April 25, 2009 (1 to date) (We're counting the Eagles' "Hell Freezes Over," which never charted on Top Country Albums, in this category due to the group's long history of play at country radio. We're not including Bon Jovi's 2007 Billboard 200 No. 1 "Lost Highway," which likewise did not appear on Top Country Albums. But it would seem a stretch to consider Bon Jovi a country act in the vein of the Eagles). Rascal Flatts concurrently plants its 10th leader atop Hot Country Songs, as "Here Comes Goodbye" vaults 6-1. The track joins Taylor Swift's "Our Song" in December 2007 as the only titles this decade to jump to the summit from outside the top five. That excludes Garth Brooks' No. 1 entrance with "More Than a Memory" in September 2007.

it's weird that "Me & My Gang" sold double the the number of album copies as "Unstoppable" in its first week...i wonder what the reasons were besides the economy?

Good to see Miranda debuting. I was expecting a higher debut, but that's ok. Hope it climbs well.
Oh and finallyy Rodney took the #1... I thought he'll miss it for a while.

Billboard Chart Alert• After posting four No. 1s on the Hot Country Songs chart from his last album, "If You're Going Through Hell," Rodney Atkins continues his winning ways with "It's America." The title cut from his recently released album soars from No. 4 to No. 1 on the chart, becoming his fifth career topper and his first since "Cleaning This Gun (Come On in Boy)" reigned for two weeks a year ago. He also led with the title cut from his last collection for four weeks in 2006 and with "Watching You" (for four weeks) and "These Are My People" (one week) in 2007.

It's getting pretty crazy, as about ten days ago, I was fearing that we'd be stuck with a three-week stay for the Flatts, and now they end up with only one week. Rodney is the 13th artist to advance to #1 on the country chart this calendar year, on the 5/2/09 chart. Last year, the 13th #1 was AJ's Good Time, on 8/2/08. 2007, it was Brad's Ticks on 6/30/07. 2006, it was Rodney's Going Through Hell on 8/12/06.
So we're setting a breakneck pace for #1s this year. We haven't had 30 #1s in one year since 1994, and there were 32 in 1993, the most since the Nielsen BDS changeover in January 1990. With us having 12 #1s last week at the 1/3 point of the year (4/25, the end of April), that puts us on pace for 36 #1s for this year. At any rate, 30 looks to be an easy total to reach, and maybe even 32.
Looking ahead for the summer, it becomes a risk to guess if any songs are going to get two weeks at the top. Brad's the only one that I would think would be a good bet, while the Flatts rapid drop with a lead single makes me wonder if Kenny will follow suit with only one week.

Also, with Jake Owen falling by the wayside, stuck with a peak of #2, I wonder how long it will be until we have the first artist of 2009 getting his first career #1 song on the country chart. After four in 2008 (Otto, Wayne, Rucker & Zac Brown), three in 2007 (Emerson, Big & Rich and Taylor), and that huge haul of nine in 2006, we're still waiting for the first one in 2009.
The highest rising artist on the 5/2 chart without a past #1 song is the Eli Young Band, at #14, but with 33 weeks already on the chart, I can't see them making it. Lady Ant is an intriguing possibility at #19. They have a decent-sounding song, and with it only 14 weeks old, could have another 14 or 15 weeks left to gain.
Jason Michael was my choice back in January, but seeing as he's spent the last 12 weeks in the 20s, and already up to week 22, he's more worried about fending off recurrency than fulfilling my #1 dreams for him. After him, Randy Houser is the only other artist down the chart that I'd spend more than a few seconds on, considering as a beginning-of-fall #1 darkhorse.
2004 is the only year since the BDS-changeover on Billboard in 1990, where we've had less than three "first #1" artists (two, Gretchen and Mont Gentry). You'd think with the revolving door in place at #1 for the foreseeable future, that we'd have no problem in at least getting two first-timers, in the remaining seven months of the year.

With a combination of 6 debuts and re-entries, BB must have pulled a lot of songs that I thought would not have gone recurrent until next week.
It looks like Trace & Tim are gone and they both had bullets on the charts 2 weeks ago and they haven't passed 20 weeks yet. It also seems like Trent Tomlinson would have been pulled as well and he had a bullet 2 weeks ago.
Then Carrie's album cut may have been pulled as well. Could they have changed the rule to from 3 weeks without a bullet to 2 weeks?
I don't know how else we could find 6 songs that would leave the chart.
