Thank goodness. This one of the dullest songs I've ever heard on CHR. I thought I was listening to Triple AAA when this nonsense came on.

I hope they try releasing a different track. Something that is more original.

I hope she pisses back off to Japan or whereever she's from. Her voice is dreadful --soooooo weak.

I also hate her voice. She has no control. That warble she does sounds like a goat bleating.

Of course, there are lots of great singers like even amateur singers in American Idol an Susan Boyle (lol), but they are just Karaoke singers whom Jimmy Kimmel calls them.LOL
Utada with her weak, but emotional voice who makes her own music (write/compose, arrange, and produce songs)>>>>>>>>>> Karaoke singers like American Idols, Lewis, etc. who can't make their own music
Chris Martin (Coldplay), Sting, or Moby, Beck with weak voices who write their own music >>>>>>>>>>> AI singers like Clay Aiken with his strong voice who can't write their own music (I actually went to Coldplay and Sting concerts in the past, and the voices (no control and weak whatsoever) were terrible on live performances (But I love them!))
I respect your opinions, but that's my opinion.

I had hoped this had done better, but I'm not sure if this can make a comeback.

Ever since I'd heard this song - I 've been biting my tongue and fingers... but could not refrain no further...
IMHO, it is a very lame song in the sense that it is being written and sung (and her live renditions are really bad) like a totally generic tune stolen from the early 80's. Totally dated!!!
To think that it even got spins (and even reaching close to Top 50) CHR radio which inclined towards current/futuristic-sounding songs completely baffles me....

Utada can sing...She does have control over her voice...that is how she sings in an exaggerated emotive style with her head voice iduring the bridge in that song...she's supposed to sound 'weak', listen to the lyrics and how they correlate with how she's singing. Obviously you've only heard this ONE song by her, or else there's no way you'd be able to come to the conclusion that she's "SOOOO Weak and goatlike."
I find it hysterical that Britney fans are talking about her weak singing voice and her 'accent.' Do you mean like Britney's country accent? Or Nelly Furtado and Rihanna accents? (They've been speaking English longer than BoA, and they form words as well as she does after a year.) But if you're Asian, you totally have an accent even if you don't.
RACIST MUCH? Not all music sounds the same. But everytime I go to a thread from an Asian artist, all I hear about is there "accent" and horrible singing...
So if Utada's American accent bothers you so much, don't listen to her. And this hardly sounds like an 80's tune.

Utada's "This Is The One" ranked in #69 at BillBoard 200 chart this week! Check it out at the link below. Billboard 200Wow! I'm glad people still bought the physical copy of her album, since it had been on iTunes for more than a month now. Congrats to her! So to date, "Come Back To Me" has peaked at #39 on Rhythmic Top 40, #5 on Hot Dance Club Play, and #93 on Pop 100.

Wheeeeeeere is all this negativity coming from?
Utada having an accent? That's ridiculous; she lived in NYC while growing up. Unlike cow, I don't think this is all coming from racism per se, but I certainly do think this is coming from some sort of intrinsic bias against Asians.

Having just heard this for the first time I have to say that she must have had serious Payola to even get as far as she did. What a boring, dated, cheap-sounding song. Even in 2002 this would have sounded B-list.
I will say though that her accent sounded totally generic American to me. I would never have made any assumptions on her racial background if I didn't already know who she was.
Her 'Exodus' album WAS terribly written though, if quite musically interesting.

This is a decent song. People are criticizing it for being bland, but if Mariah, Rihanna, or Alicia sang it, the song would be praised as a smash ballad. Overall, though, I think the supporters were rooting more for Utada than the song itself.

they should have done a chrisette with utadas album What does that mean...? Chrisette got special promotion from Amazon...they released her album a day early and for a discount price ($2.99). survivor thinks that by using Chrisette's tactic or a similar tactic, Utada would get higher sales from it.

Hello - Mariah, Rihanna or Alicia are CURRENT-souding singers who have someting substantial to offer - whether be it in terms of singing/writing talents, looks, charisma and all that. And Utada, I believe, lacks or does not possess the right amount.. Obviously, with these singers - they would defintely to make something out of this sorry excuse for a song .... Utada can only make it much worse... I'll say lets ban this song (and Utada) to whereever now....

The label of "current" is just like the label of "normal," an undefinable label that people make into what they want. Truth is, as long as Utada is breathing, she's "current." As long as her music is gracing the airwaves, it's "current." So if anybody wants to hear what "current" sounds like, he or she can listen to "Come Back To Me."
