I think the problem Clive had with Kelly writing all the tracks is that there was no room for his songwriting cronies on the CD, so his friends got no royalties.

Hey, I'm a massive Kelly fan and I'm obsessed with My December, but also love Breakaway, but I'm not really feelin' the new All I Ever Wanted Era.
Anyways I have a point lol, since I haven't been keeping up with all her press and stuff, I was just wondering if she's mentioned in the interviews about how her album is more commercial than My December? Or has she spoken about the MD era at all? Anything to do with that or how her sound has suddenly gone back to breakaway? I'm not dissing her I'm just curious because I absolutely adore Kelly, even if I hate the commercial sound.

If you listen to any of her recent radio interviews, it doesn't sound at all like the whole CD is going to have that commercial sound. It sounds like a nice mix of style and substance.

Kelly Clarkson is ready to make a splash on the mainstream charts again as she prepares to release her fourth studio album All I Ever Wanted, in stores March 10th in the U.S. As an agreement to release her previous deeply personal effort My December, Kelly is using her full throttle vocals against catchy hooks and teamed up with hit songwriters for the new record. Opening the record is her No. 1 hit "My Life Would Suck Without You." The track was written by Dr. Luke and Max Martin, the writers of her 2004 hit "Since U Been Gone." The song takes on a pop appeal with roaring vocals throughout the choruses. Describing a dysfunctional relationship, "Suck" tells a story of a commitment, being that her life would be miserable without that person. Somehow the relationship works. The track debuted at No. 97 on the Billboard Hot 100 and shot to No. 1 in a week, beating Britney Spears record for biggest jump and thus being the second time Clarkson beat the record. This is only the beginning of a new journey. "I Do Not Hook Up" was written by pop singer-songwriter Katy Perry and Kara Dioguardi (who is the newest addition to the Idol judge lineup). "Hook Up" is as infectious as "Suck" but with more attitude. "Sweetheart put the bottle down/ You've got too much talent/ I see you through those bloodshot eyes.." she sings before ripping into a chorus that says Hey I don't hook up with people, I prefer to get to know you and see where it goes. Though Clarkson didn't pen the track, she can certainly relate as her love life is quite dim and controlled (by choice of course! We love Kelly for her boy bashing songs!). Kelly Clarkson also teamed up with hit songwriter and OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder on a good portion of the record. "Save You" is a rhythmic ballad he presented to Kelly when she first began working on the record. "I wish I could save you/ I wish I could say to you/ I'm not going nowhere/ I wish I could say to you/ It's gonna be alright..." she sings. Tedder is just as passionate as Clarkson when it comes to various genres and writing. The pair collaborated on the other Tedder tracks, including "If I Can't Have You," "Already Gone" and "Impossible." Another track "Tip of My Tongue" on the deluxe edition is also a Ryan Tedder track cowritten with Kelly. The pop rock Grammy winner also paired up with Sam Watters and company to record several tracks including three on the standard edition of All I Ever Wanted. The deluxe version will include another song by Watters called "The Day We Fell Apart." The latter uses the newest wave of drum programming combined with Clarkson's immense vocals. Taking on a more aggressive version of "My Life Would Suck Without You," "The Day We Fell Apart" is about loving someone more when she broke up with them. "I must admit the grass looks so much greener on the other side/ Since you left I noticed now you're so much meaner/ And it's something I think I like," she fiercely puts out there. Last March, four alternative country-like demos surfaced of Clarkson's that she wrote with bandmate Aben Eubanks (who also has credit on four tracks from her last record). Of those demos that leaked, "Ready" has made the final cut with honest lyrics of wanting to get out. "Frozen, forgetful again/ The part where I lose my head/ The scene where I'm supposed to speak but instead/ I sit so patiently drenched in all of this *#+#/ I can't escape," she sings before going into a harmonic chorus of melody and a hope to be found. Clarkson's last record was written entirely with her band and this time only two songs are included. "Cry" is best described as a country-like waltz that she cowrote with her musical director of nearly seven years, Jason Halbert. The sound can be referenced to Patty Griffin or Ryan Adams as Clarkson states her love for these artists. Kelly Clarkson may have felt short last time around with her fate rested in the hands of evil label suites (more so Clive Davis whose reputation is notorious for quarreling with artists), but this time she's back with a vengeance, hot songs combined with soul penetrating lyrics and a sexy new look in which she states of her album cover "they photoshopped the crap out of me! I don't know who she is but she's hot!" The deluxe edition of All I Ever Wanted will include two bonus tracks, the making of the album, the making of the video for "My Life Would Suck Without You" and the video itself. The preorder o f the album on iTunes also includes another track entitled "Can We Go Back?" Kelly Clarkson's All I Ever Wanted is in stores March 10th in the United States www.associatedcontent.com/article/1486496/sneak_peek_review_kelly_clarkson_makes.html?cat=33

Have to agree with ya 1000% on this one...think the album is going to be WAY more than what people are thinking.. I think behind it all, Kelly is ALOT smarter about the biz than most people seem to want to give her credit for. And I understand that she has management to guide her and such...so just to save arguements! :) Oh, Sunpeach, GREAT point about Daughtry/Bo Bice.....and very true! Oh, and thanks to Freakshow for the atempt at producer list...... So that writer list isn't official?? Man, I need to stop reading on the internet! HA!!

Top 40 Pop9 8 KELLY CLARKSON My Life Would Suck W... 6644 5841 803 40.559Hot AC8 7 KELLY CLARKSON My Life Would Suck W... 2692 2496 196 13.788 Those are spectacular updates, Focus. Just yesterday on the song thread, I posted that I hoped to see the Top 40 bullet go over 700 again. To wake up this morning and see it over 800 is more awesome than I can express. On Top 40, MLWS is now a lock to make the top 5. Because I go strictly by the math, I won't predict #1 yet, but the math now says it has an excellent chance eventually. The song to worry about for now is 'Dead And Gone'. Even though Hot AC moves slower than a glacier, MLWS looks headed for #1 on that format. Happy dance time.

Part of her convincing Clive to let her do MD how she wanted was that she had to abide by his rules for the next album. Katy Perry? Max Martin & Dr Luke? Uhg!

Plus 7 songs that Kelly has writing credits on. Sounds like they worked together on this one and both got what they wanted.

I'm not dissing her I'm just curious because I absolutely adore Kelly, even if I hate the commercial sound. have you heard the entire CD? I'm only asking since you said you're not feelin the entire era so I was curious how you were judging it if the only song you've heard is "suck"? suck is a much more pop/commerical song than some might have been expecting from Kelly but it's not new nor should it be a shock. Kelly never said she was going on indie rock on RCA or the fans. Most of Kelly's fans are pop music fans, that is the kind of material they want, hence the lackluster sales of My December. As for Clive not "hearing" hits on My December I guess I must be remembering things incorrectly because I thought I read that he also didn't hear hits on Breakaway and thought it wouldn't even sell a million copies. I think Clive's problem with Kelly is that he didn't discover her, if he could take credit for mining her talent and making her a star he'd be all about her writing her own music but he can't so he tries to stifle her and keep her in his narrow idea of what she should be rather than allowing her to be what she is. Kelly isn't the first artist he's done that too either. Also the comparison to Daughtry isn't really accurate because it seems men in the industry have a much easier time not being seen as pre-packaged poptarts. I'm not a big fan of Kelly but I can respect the fact that she seems to fight for her own vision and isn't afraid to step on toes to get her music the way she wants it.

I'm listening to the HU demo, and seriously, the song will be a big big hit. It's fun, catchy and fresh... the chorus is damn catchy, the instrumental is fun and with kelly's lyrics... it'll be amazing!
I can't wait for the midtempos/ballads... Kelly said those were really different, so I'm dying here! I want to wait until March 10th to listen to the album, not sure if I'll make it LOL Back when MD leaked I stayed away from the leak, but ended up downloading it just a couple of days before the album was released

Sweptaway...I love your post..really liked this..
That's really cool...and I think important. The fact that yes, Kelly did say if she could release MD as is, that she would do whatever the label wanted next time.......is taken too literally by some people. Not saying Kelly didn't honor her word, but I don't think she went in as a puppet.
That is why I think this album will be alittle different than what people are thinking.......it is good marketing.....make a single that remind people of Kelly's huge commercial success......pull the general public BACK in to forget the MD negativity....THEN....have a mix of GREAT songs that vary all over the place AND positive publicity/ backing from the studio about the album.
I could DEFINITELY be wrong about this though.
And...someone help me out here.....when artists sing other songs from demos......are they verbatim from the demo??
That is why they are demos, right? Just a rough take of the song...then doesn't the producer or artist or whoever try to rework it somehow? Just cause we hear these demos doesn't mean THAT is how they are going to sound verbatim.....
I am not sure though because I don't follow anyone's career with a microscope like I do Kelly!
And most of the public don't....these internet message boards are just a small little place sometimes.
Hell, I consider myself a fan of David Cook's....have his CD and such......I JUST found out that one of his songs was done by another rock group in the 90's....but his name is on the writing credits! Go figure!!

He also posted this about the Already Gone lyrics, which he is isn't posting.
