This was just sent out to radio, and it goes for adds on January 26th.
I was hoping they'd go with this. I think it has a good chance to be Chuck's third top 15 single.

Wow, why such a big gap after All I Ever Wanted though?

Maybe because of the holidays? He was talking about at the CMA's sending a new single out after the New Year but didn't decide on the single until the first week or so of December.

I find this song to be overly mediocre. It's not horrible or anything, but I think this type of story has been told in much more interesting ways (Emerson Drive's "A Boy Becomes a Man" for example). It probably will crack the T20, but I don't see it being strong enough to make the T10. I was really hoping they would go with Starting Now, or even The Easy Part or What If You Stay.

Chuck had been saying What If You Stay was going to be single #3 but after talking to Brad Paisley he decided to go with this. It's an interesting choice and I am hoping it does well for him.

"What If You Stay" would be my choice and then finish things up with "Good Time Comin' On". I honestly think that Chuck's debut album was good.

Solid debut album, but I agree with Avalyn, "What If You Stay" would've been a better choice for a single.

thats okay Chuck. why release a good song now, when you are already 0 for 2 with me? so just go and release another bad song to make me not like you even more.
ugh i hate this. i really like him as a person (saw him at CMA Fan Fest this summer) and i love his voice, but his songs suck. "All I Ever Wanted" was okay, but "Stealing Cinderella" is awful and so is this.

zaclord,
What makes this song awful? It's actually pretty damn good. It also is a fine showcase of Chuck's voice (which works better on ballads).

I think this is a really good song and really, really shows off his voice as rsmatto pointed out. "All I Ever Wanted" was better, in my opinion, but I'd love for this to be a solid Top 15 hit.

I want to like Chuck Wicks' music more than I do. I think this is better than "Stealing Cinderella", but still not great. "All I Ever Wanted" was pretty good though. I can see "Man Of The House" making the top 20, but I think it will have trouble making the top 10.

This isn't the greatest song in the world and I rather them have released "What IF You Stay" as I think that's an awesome song!
I gotta say I think Chuck's voice is unique and I love it. Saw him live, he was great.
And I don't get why so many people disliked "Stealing Cinderella"? I thought that was an awesome song! Does someone wanna explain that to me?

It wasn't amazing but I thought it had solid lyrics and that Chuck sang it well. He really seemed to understand the emotions in the story line. Most likely the people who don't like it are just tired of all the wedding songs.

the whole 'Daddy loves his little girl' story line has been told WAY too many times. and "Stealing Cinderella" was the worst written IMO. plus it was the last one so i was already worn out on the subject.

I dunno. Most songs in that vein take the father's perspective ("My Little Girl", "I Loved Her First"). I can't think of any others that take the groom-to-be's perspective like "Stealing Cinderella" does.

Yeah the idea may have run it's ground from the father's perspective, but I think by changing it to the grooms it made it all different.

For me, it wasn't so much that I feel the subject matter has been overdone (though I suppose that's part of it). My real issue with the song is that I thought the lyrics were quite corny and cliched. Too 'syrupy' I guess is a better way of describing it. I like Chuck's voice though, so I'm wanting to like his singles.

I kinda like it. Was not a fan of Cinderella, All I Ever Wanted grew on me a lot, and I like this. He is moving up in my book.

Chuck posted on his myspace that he wrote three songs with Brian McKnight this week in LA. One of the songs will make his new album. He mentioned to a few fans that met him he was going to be recording once he arrived back to Nashville as well. It's very possible this could be the last single from this album and his next single will be from the new album. He's been writing for it already and is going into the studio to record. So it'll be interesting to see what happens. Oh and he has been writing quite a bit with Julianne Hough as well. Not sure whose album those will end up on or if they'll split it. He's hoping at some point they'll be able to do a duet but he isn't sure if that'll happen with their next albums.

You can count me in among those who really disliked "Stealing Cinderella." I thought the vocal was whiny (although I do think Chuck has a pretty pleasing voice generally), the melody generic and that the lyrics scanned awkwardly. The vibe I got from the song was that of a guy trying so hard to act like he understands the father of the bride's perspective that he comes off as smarmy and presumptuous. I felt like the sentiment was overdone.
And that's what I would say of this song, as well -- the sentiment seems overdone. I get that we're supposed to feel for this brave and put-upon little guy, but at a certain point, I found myself thinking, "Enough already!" This list of ills and indignities the little boy suffers had gotten so long it felt like he was a writer's construct, not a flesh & blood human being. I also didn't understand why the mother in the story had to be portrayed as so passive and neglectful -- that, too, seemed designed purely to cast this boy as a martyr. The thing is, the basic situation -- a little boy missing his daddy who is overseas serving in the military -- is enough to be moving. We don't need for everything else in his life to also be lacking to care.
Also, I don't need to be told that the boy "should be playing ball and video games" -- that's another example of the overexplication that ultimately makes the song feel heavy-handed. I'd like to see Chuck Wicks trusting his listeners to fill in the blanks sometimes. The boy casting himself as the "man of the house" is a good idea, but I think it would have been more poignantly explored if the lyrics focused on his imaginings instead of having him actually taking on that role in the external world.
Incidentally, does this song's melody remind anyone else of Fergie's "Big Girls Don't Cry"? I think it's mostly because of the guitar work, but the vocal melody is structured similarly, too. The last line of the chorus also shares a melody with the last line of the chorus of Martina's "Independence Day."

This song is really growing on me. I've been here it on one of my local stations, one or twice a day at that. How is this doing on the charts so far? Hopefully good.

Heard this on the radio today. I suppose it deserves more than one listen, but the thin vocals combined with the overdone lyrics make for a bad combination. We've always had a dependable supply of unsubtle, over-sentimental songs on country radio and I guess he's staking a claim on that market niche. (Also, come to think of it, there's a long tradition of finding fault with women. Get up off the couch, Mom, and stop putting a lock on the little man's bicycle. And don't you know how to bake?)

Chuck just signed a year long sponsorship deal with Dr. Pepper. This first order of business is a contest for the ACM's. He'll have online and in store promotional items during this year too! www.drpepper.com/acma/This song is up to #41 on R&R. I'd think it'd be the same on Billboard. It seems to be doing good.

I'm not sure! Maybe someone else can answer that. That's why I mentioned I'd think it'd be the same or close to it. I tried to find billboard standing for the song but I couldn't find any.

R&R and Billboard have been the same chart since mid 2006.
