That mix was really not worth starting a thread for. It's just a beat over the song, not that original, not that inspiring, and not even that good. There's also a DJ VNo Rework of the song, so far. I don't really like that either 'cause there's too much going on at once.

Nevins will probably do a good job (if he does it). The original is really happy pop, and all of his mixes are happy pop-ish.

There is no way Jason Nevins won't remix this. The original already sounds like a remix he would have done lol.

I don't really like that either 'cause there's too much going on at once. Sometimes simplicity gets the very best results. When remixes first were made, they were simple extensions of the original. The details that come together to make a song a hit are too often lost in the dance remixes now. Songs are completely overhauled to the point they are unrecognizable. Another reason why dance music is no longer mainstream, for the most part. Most people hear a dance remix and either yawn, or make comments like "they completely ruined it! They took out the best parts."

isn't a "remix" by definition a new mix/version? Not at all. By definition a remix is exactly that, a "re-mix". Not a reproduction, or completely brand new music bed underneath existing vocals. It's a re-mix, or "mixing" the song again. Back in the day, remixes were simply extensions of the original, with the various bits & pieces of the album versions shuffled around, intro & outro beats, extra parts added, etc. These days it's a different story, and sometimes I wish things would return to the simplicity of times passed. Case in point: Donna Summer "Stamp Your Feet" probably my favorite track by her of all time. Why oh why was there never an extended album version produced? Did the label really need to spend thousands of dollars on a dozen different remixes when all they really needed was a DJ-friendly original mix w/ intro & outro? I finally ended up making my own, using the intro & outro beats from Jason Nevins' mix. I think that record was a case where the original should've been simply "re-mixed" instead of "re-produced". Ditto Cyndi Lauper "Into The Nightlife" - I actually used the Laidback Luke intro to make my own mixshow where it launched into the album version right after his breakdown, then ended on a super-cold outro so I could do a slam-segue into the next song for my club (one with a super-cold intro). I remember Hosh Gureli saying the same thing a couple years back at a music conference in Vegas "why do we need 20 remixes for Justin Timberlake Sexyback?!?!?" It's like people - just throw some intro & outro beats on there for the DJ's, save the 40 grand you spent on remixers, and throw it out to the clubs that way! HELLO! It's a dance track to begin with! Okay, end of rant *lol*

Mike, I completely agree; however, you never know what good things might come out of those remixes. DJs will always be able to extend the original mixes for themselves if they choose to play the album version - it is incredibly easy, and any DJ worth his paycheck could loop these dance-friendly album versions of which you speak live. The most recent example for me is Stuart Price's album version of The Killers - Human. As for Sexyback, I have no official comment (ugh!).

I wouldn't even begin to know how to do that, I'd much rather assemble a re-edit ahead of time in Cool Edit or something, but even then - it actually is quite impossible with songs like Into The Nightlife and Stamp Your Feet just using the album version alone. Try it if you don't believe me ;)

That's a pretty good mix. Some of the chords of the original vocals have translated well over the chords of the instrumental you used. There is one spot in most of the choruses which doesn't quite mesh but I'm not sure how much could be done about it judging on the chords I can hear played in the mix.

I know exactly which section you're talking about and yes, it bothered me too from the very beginning *lol* I've posted a revised version at that same link as above, if you wanna delete the old mix and replace it with this new one that'd be great! I had to do a LOT of shuffling the 4-counts around, measure by measure, in order to get the chords to match Kelly's melody-line. I'll be impressed if anyone can guess this instrumental :)

It's a good mashup, but I don't think I'm a fan of the instrumental.
