the song's inconsistencies aside, as a song its actually quite good i think. It sounds like a hit that's for sure.
Although ive never heard where i live ever referred to as "new york city town" though. I laughed at that.

I think he is a dreadful person and this is a dreadful song. I actually used to like B&R and went to their concert. But this is just mindless hypocrisy. And I'm neither republican or democrat.

Every story I've heard says that Rich wrote this himself after watching the news, but now I'm seeing John Anderson's name attached. What's the deal here? Did John Anderson just happen to be at John Rich's house when they wrote the song?

No, John Anderson. I looked it up on ASCAP and at least two other sources say so.

And I would say that it's not fair that he can put out songs like this, a song that is blatantly in favor of some politicians over others, whilst the DXC have been banished from country radio.

While I care for Big and Rich in any form less than I care for the Dixie Chicks, I don't think that's really a fair comparison.

No, John Anderson. I looked it up on ASCAP and at least two other sources say so. On the CD sleeve it says "John D. Anderson" which is THE same guy considering his publishing under the lyrics are "Seminole Songs" or something like that... As for the AMG review, while I agree and pointed out that there were a few lyrical inaccuracies (the same one that AMG quotes), I think the album was ultimately a success, even if Rich is a "colorless singer."

He was heading for #1. What happened? He ran out of time. There's always a risk with topical or novelty songs -- love and its loss are eternal topics, but tepid unfocused commentaries on politics don't have the same shelf life. Besides, country radio likes to play it safe, and no doubt this song has its partisans but also it has people who dislike it. Strongly. Vocally. I suspect Okie From Muskogee wouldn't fare well on the charts either nowadays. On the other hand, a big anti-war song by the Dixie Chicks would probably do really well -- wait, maybe not.

He also ran into a gear jam with an absolutely loaded top ten:
1 DARIUS RUCKER ~ It Won't Be Like This For Long 2 TAYLOR SWIFT ~ White Horse 3 GEORGE STRAIT ~ River Of Love 4 JAKE OWEN ~ Don't Think I Can't Love You 5 RODNEY ATKINS ~ It's America 6 RASCAL FLATTS ~ Here Comes Goodbye 7 JASON ALDEAN ~ She's Country 8 TIM MCGRAW ~ Nothin' To Die For 9 CARRIE UNDERWOOD ~ I Told You So 10 SUGARLAND ~ It Happens
Not only is the top 10 packed, but Keith and Brad are right on his heels with hot shot debut songs...

I see he's appearing today on the Sean Hannity show to regenerate the buzz for his song. Afraid I'm going to miss that one, but I'm sure he will be hailed as someone with a clear understanding of the American economy.

He was heading for #1. What happened? Not sure :( I was hoping he'd pass that duet. I think beat and music is catchy. Enough for me to even download his two singles from iTunes today - when "Never Mind Me" was the only Big & Rich song I ever liked.

I think Big Kenny has the better understanding of the American economy. I believe he is the one who wrote the #1 hit "Last Dollar".

According to a very nice article in Tuesday's New York Times, his next single will be 'The Good Lord And The Man'.
In an era of NRR (No Risk Radio), I'm not surprised that this song appears to be hitting a wall at country radio, if not as abruptly as 'All Jacked Up'; you either like it or you don't, and the much-discussed opinion that many of Detroit's wounds were either self-inflicted or produced by asinine laws from Congress isn't making some folks any more comfortable about this tune's inflammatory subject matter.

Another highly presumptuous song that attempt to strike a Red, White, and Blue chord with listeners. I actually like that song much more than this one, but it's still quite flawed, and I doubt it makes the T20.

Almost every song on this album is a pandering political piece, written in such a haughty, presumptuous manner. Is it a publicity thing? Fame getting to his head? Bandwagon jumping?

He loses 470k on this week's Billboard chart, but still maintains a bullet. I wonder if he applied for, and got, a corporate Billboard bailout.
Shouldn't make light of the guy, but I can't help it; he's one of my least favorite country artists ever. Can't wait for this one to go recurrent so he can release something new, perhaps exploiting a different tragedy in his pursuit of the top 10.

Well, you'll be happy to know that "The Good Lord & the Man" conflates opposition to the current war with a lack of gratitude for the sacrifices made by our troops (especially those of an earlier generation). And, to top it all off with a delicious cherry, it informs us that we would all be speaking German and Japanese if not for those brave American soldiers who gave their lives in World War II. Now that's the kind of incisive, non-xenophobic insight I've come to expect from John Rich.

He can write a really good song when he wants to (almost anything off Big & Rich's first two albums, any of his cowrites on Easy Money), but now that he's gone solo he gives us that!?

Does anybody remember "Rescue Me" from John Rich's solo music around 10 years ago? I really loved that song, but can't find it anywhere.
Wow, I didn't realize that he wrote Jason Aldean's first 4 hits, and also Gretchen Wilson's first 4 hits. Add those to the other songs the guy has written, and he must really be Rich by now.

I found a link where you can listen to "Rescue Me": www.imeem.com/timekeepermedia/music/6yZIZqnI/john-rich-rescue-me/The song was written by 17 year old Katie Darnell, from Princeton, Kentucky -- who was a three-time brain cancer survivor.
She met John Rich when he performed for children at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. Katie sang “Rescue Me” for John Rich in her hospital room while going through chemotherapy, and he was so impressed with the song, he recorded it as a gift to her. The song was passed on to a Nashville radio station, and it began getting heavy air play.
Katie and John performed the song at the Opry, and also for President Bush. Katie Darnell passed away in 2005. CMT had produced a short video on Katie’s life. It has been used to raise over $80,000 for the T.J. Martell Foundation, and they said the video will be used for years to come because it is all about her life, how she faced things, and it changes people’s lives.I wish I could buy this song somewhere! Any ideas at all? Thanks!!!

I don't know about John Rich's cover, but Wynonna's original version of the song is available on What The World Needs Now Is Love, from 2003 (her last real studio album). For what it's worth, I think Wynonna's version is much better.
