The lead single from 2005's Confessions on a Dance Floor. It heavily samples ABBA's "Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight)". It was EVERYWHERE for months, which surprisingly for me didn't lead me to hate it. Actually, I still really like it. Peaks: Hot 100: #7 Pop: #16 It also topped the charts in 45 other countries. It's the definition of universal hit. www.dailymotion.com/video/xq3g_hungupmadonna_music

It's alright. I don't really consider this a "Madonna" song because it borrows so much from the ABBA song. Still, it was a big comeback commercially after the American Life period.

I love it. It reminds me too much of fall '05. The ABBA sample makes the song though.

LOVE it still, and wouldn't hesitate to call it a modern classic. I also think this is more popular in the States then the peak suggests, I know so many people who like it.

I also think this is more popular in the States then the peak suggests, I know so many people who like it. Of course it is, it was #1 on the Digital sales chart for 2 weeks straight. Hence why one should always go by the public wants & not what radio dictates. ;)

LOVE it still, and wouldn't hesitate to call it a modern classic. I think I agree. It's also no coincidence that a new ABBA compilation ( Number Ones) was released in late 2006, with "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)" as the opening track.

I really loved this song. It was so addictive. Whenever I play this for a crowd on a dancefloor, it's always a floorfiller.
I really liked the SDP Extended Vocal that was on the single. I prefer the version Madonna used to perform live. It was basically the SDP version with the bridge added.
This song had some pretty good remixes. The L.E.X. Reggaeton Mix was a hot mess.

One of my favourites by Madonna. It's such an anthem and was HUGE for AGES.

I enjoyed the sample...and that's it. I think it could've been better.

The album version is supreme. It used the sample wisely- also, the low-volume-to-hgher-volume buildup to that terrific final-chorus section.

Her Madgesty wasn't even nominated that year (as COADF came out too late), but of course she had to open the program. Is that the only instance in which M has been a projection? (just at her first entrance, of course)

This song smashes every other dance song released!
After American Life (which was really disappointing), she came out with this smash, and she was back to being the it thing. It was ubiquitous, I don't think there's a comeback better than this one.
To go from a flop era with a string of flop singles to a #1 single in over 45 countries, that's huge. That's when you knew Madonna was back. I'm pretty shocked how amazing the chart success of Hung Up was, but that's because it is one of the best dance songs of all time.
The only market it underperformed in was US, it literally SMASHED in every other market. I love everything about this song, when the chorus comes out, I just lose it.

I LOVED the dance, it was a smash here for a reason. Still hard to understand why did it underoperform in the US. JUST in the USA. :(

^It peaked at No. 42 on Hot 100 Airplay (spending 11 weeks on). Even the strong sales showing couldn't convince radio, I guess.
Interesting that the ABBA track was not issued as a single in the USA.

This is the definition of COMEBACK. The fact that she went from American Life to this was amazing. I was mesmerized by this song when it came out, she did a complete 180. The vocals, the instrumentals, the video, everything was on point. I remember my Grade 7 teacher having the album and telling everyone what an amazing album it was. I can see why this was such a universal hit - it has everything a song needs, you just want to get up and dance whenever this song comes on. EDIT: didn't realize I posted something similar years ago

Hung Up is flawless. Such a simple track, yet so brilliant. I love American Life but this blew me away when she released it.

It's a pretty great track, and the video, while simple for her, was effective and she rocked the leotard. :)
Nice nod to Saturday Night Fever and fashion of eras past.

I adore this. Infectiously fun. It's easily one of her best, although all of the Confessions singles hold their own.

This still feels big to me. It used the sample effectively, the production goes hard and of course it's so catchy.

Pop perfection, definitely one of madges best songs.
I remember how much of a cultural moment this song was, despite only peaking at #7 on the Hot 100 the public reaction was great. After American Life, I think many people thought Madonna was done but she came back with a vengeance.

I remember hearing a clip of this in the Motorola ad campaign with the phone booth in it before the song's release. Everything about Hung Up felt big and exciting - just like the good old days.
Reminds me of my one and only trip to Coachella that year.
