Wait, I really don't understand the reasoning behind this change. The show is being moved back one week so the eligibility period has to be shortened by an entire month? It seriously doesn't make any sense.

U2 and Green Day might split the votes but I expect those two to dominate the nods. And Taylor Swift too. I would be shocked if she doesn't get an AOTY nod.
No one is standing out yet for the BNAs. We'll see.

^Taylor I doubt will get an album of the year nomination even though it will probably be the best selling album of the year. Can you say Alicia Keys As I Am? LOL.
I agree no one yet has stood out for Best New Artist, idk who will though at least this time last year there was a few.

Many nominations will go to U2... I'm not sure if they will win them but they will get nominated.
I'm hoping the Peas make an excellent album and go for Album of the Year... or atleast Best Rap Album.

^ The Grammys are not based on Album sales, thank goodness. They are usually based more on artistic merit.
For that reason, I think Kelly Clarkson, Beyonce, and Pink are going to get alot of love at the grammys., Both put out killer albums.
I think Lady Gaga will get some love, hopefully for Best New Artist if they consider her still "new",which I think she is. They don't look at the date the song was released to radio, but the date it really impacts... and I think that was fall 2008.. so she might still be eligible. Jonas brothers got nominated after 2 albums already...
Also, Bruce Springstein's new album, U2, Eminem (their album comes out this spring), and Green Day.
Who else is releasing an album this year?

I think they moved up the Grammy telecast to January because it will conflict with the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver which will be taking place in February. That's my guess. That makes alot of sense actually. I think you are likely correct. It is ALL about ratings after all, and no one will watch the grammys if they are focused on the Olympics.

I agree with this very well said. Lady Gaga right now is the only one I can see being nominated and maybe winning but she doesnt seem like BNA material. Asher Roth may be able to snag a nod but idk. MAybe someone new will surprise us all.

I'd love K'naan or Kid Cudi to sneak a BNA nod...or Chester French or B.O.B. Call me crazy but could A.R. Rahman get anything?

I think Lady Gaga might be an accurate prediction for BNA (if she can get nominated since she was already nominated for a Grammy) but I think it's waaaaaayyy to early to start BNA noms...

it is too early to start predictions, but lady gaga is irrelevant, since she received a nomination 3 months ago. There was a reason she didnt get nominated for best new artist this past year, just as there was a reason she did get nominated for best dance recording. Anyway moving on.. It would be nice if the grammys gradually moved their eligibility period to be like the Oscars, it would be so much better and relevant I think.

Circus will be nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. I'm willing to bet on that! That sounds mighty fine with me. I wonder if "Womanizer" will be eligible for anything for this year's Grammy's since the song was released to radio stations back in September 2008.

I would like to see David Cook with a Best New Artist nomination, but they rarely give it to solo male rockers for some reason.

I'm hoping Beysus get's a few more nomination to add to her already growing collection, once again showing you can be mainstream and still be liked by the critics.

I don't think Lil Wayne will be a threat to Kanye, Jay-Z and Eminem, who are all Grammy favorites. Lil Wayne already had his year.

Once again, Lady GaGa is ineligible for Best New Artist.
You can't be nominated in Best New Artist when you already received a Grammy nomination in the past. This is the reason why Jennifer Hudson wasn't nominated at this past years Grammy Awards since she was nominated the previous year for a track off the Dreamgirls Soundtrack.

It was released back in September but wasn't submitted for nomination contention. It wasn't on the ballot. Only Britney's "Gimme More" was on the ballot and that song released back in August 2007 and was submitted for the 2008 period even though it could have been eligible for the 2007 Grammy Awards. Anyways, if Britney's team is smart. They'll submit "Womanizer" to the Best Dance Recording category. "Circus" into Female Pop Vocal.

Oh so that eliminates Gaga for BNA.
Mmm. This category will be interesting cause theres only a few months left thanks to the new deadline and theres no other best new artist that have made an impact but thats a good thing there are some new artists who are in the shadows.

Well, they should have submited Piece of Me for Pop Vocal, and Gimme More for Dance, but they only submited Gimme More for Pop, and of course it didn't had a chance at all to get a nomination there.

I think that the 2010 winner for BNA will be unpredictable, since no one new has really risen yet.

All I know is 2010 I hope they show some diversity. I hope nobody sweeps the Grammys I hope they mix it up. Best New Artist last year sucked in my opinion and as much as I love Adele i dont even think she shouldve been nominated. But thats the Grammys for ya!

I hope GaGa, David Cook, Beyonce, Britney, Chris Cornell & more get nominated!! Maybe Katharine Mcphee will release her album in time and get a best new artist nomination that would be AMAZING!
