They should be adding GaGa. I bet she performs "Bad Romance" and "Speechless."
Who is everyone predicting for Best New Artist?

Taylor Swift was nominated for a Grammy in 2008 for Best New Artist. So when she performed at the 2009 Grammy Awards she was already a Grammy nominated artist.
Adam should NOT get a Grammy performance slot before other Grammy nominated artists or music legends.

Is Lady Antebellum nominated at all? They have two nominations in the country categories, country song and country duo/group vocal performance.

To bad Tay Tay has a nom here They're nominated for "I Run to You." "Need You Now" won't be eligible until next year, but I expect that's what they'll be performing on the show.

Lady Antebellum is usually very good live, so I think they will do well.
What if Susan Boyle gets nominated for BNA next year? lol Will she be the oldest person to ever be nominated for Best New Artist? That would be hilarious. lol

This thread is a mess. Keep it up. Uhm I would say Taylor is probably the biggest name right now. I don't get how people are saying otherwise. She is ALL I hear about everywhere. Even my mom is sick of her and you know it is bad when my freaking MOM hears about her too much. She is huge and the hot thing right now. My point was that her popularity does not mean Beyonce and Lady Gaga weren't popular at all this year. People try to make it about black and white this was the top artist and this was not. In reality, it is a lot more fluid than that. In some ways, Beyonce is still the #1 female. In some ways, it was Lady Gaga's year. In a lot of other ways, Taylor dominated. That is possible. I see what you're saying, but I don't see how anyone can claim that Taylor isn't the biggest act this year. She had a country song chart on Rhythmic. That's huge. Plus, she's sold ridiculous amounts of singles and albums. LMAO at the country song on rhythmic bs...the pop remix was much more suited for clubs than rodeos. That song wasn't even pretending to be country anymore. That said, any Bey fan who thinks she was more 'powerful' than Tay in 09 needs only to look at the Billboard Artist of the Year results. Bey came in second. Anyone who says Tay was overwhelmingly more 'powerful' than Bey or Gaga is also delusional. Tay barely beat them in that tally. She did win, but it wasn't a landslide, not by a long shot. All three ladies had amazing years and created music that will live on into the future years to come. It will be exciting to see how they fare come late January. I personally think it will be like the last time they all shared an awards show stage where Bey is big winner (matching the fact she's nominated for the most) then Gaga will win some and Tay will obviously win some too.

Random Question: Would Taylor be as "powerful" as some say if it had not been for the VMA/Kanye incident.? Not trying to be a smart ass but I just would like to know someone's opinion on it. Would someone still dare font she is more powerful than those two ladies(even with album sales and acclaim) had that incident never occured...? Yes. Because she was already past 4 X platinum, had 2 hit singles on mainstream radio and Fearless was a permanent fixture in the top 10 for almost the entire year ALL before the incident at the VMAs. So just because she sold more than them before that incident occured, means that she would of been more powerful than them.? To me, that would only be true if powerfullness was only subjected to record sells, but its not. And I wouldn't dare call it power either. I would just say she sold more the all those hoes, including Kanye. As a commercial musician, your leverage in the industry rests solely on how much money you can make for your label. And that still by-and-large depends on your album/singles sales. I'm pretty sure that when Taylor sits down at the table to negotiate her new contract with her label or decides when/how to release her new album/single or negotiates her appearance fee for an award show/music festival or decides her musical direction for her new album, she has plenty of leverage/bargaining power over Big Machine/Universal/whoever else is sitting across the negotiating table. This is especially pronounced nowadays when there has been few young artists who are proven blockbuster sellers .In this climate, even "established" big names have disappointed in their sales while older acts with still impressive sales are too expensive/set in their ways to be a cost-effective signing. THAT kind of leverage is what I would call true power, power that you can take to the bank. PS : I'm not comparing the "power" of these artists but just refuting your point that album sales =/= power. For what it's worth,Madonna is overall the most powerful female in the business followed by Beyonce.I'm sure newcomers like Lady Gaga and Taylor will get their time in the sun though.

For what it's worth, Online Betting picks Beyonce to win Album, Taylor to win Song. Record is a tie between Beyonce and Taylor. They are often wrong though, and were last year. They did not pick Allison Krauss to win Album. lol I think I might take the Dave Matthews odds of 8-1, because I might win some hard cold cash in the New Year if he wins. lol www.gambling911.com/entertainment/2010-grammys-odds-posted-121209.html

What a silly argument. Idol is all about a particular kind of singing talent, which Taylor does not have. (Not that she's a bad singer; she's just not the kind of singer who fares well in that venue, given her limited range). It's not about other talents, like songwriting, that she does have. Bob Dylan would never have cleared the first audition on Idol. That is not a knock on either Bob Dylan or Idol; not every square peg must be forced through every round hole. You have got to be kidding me. I can name about 4 or more people in EACH season of idol who've made it into the top 10 with vocals far less stellar then Taylor. Season One Justin, Nikki, and a whole host of other girls who could not hold a note. Season Two: I can't remember but many had weak voices. Season Three: Some claim Fantasia can't sing (I happen to think she can sing and very well) at all and she won, not to mention the red headed boy forgot his name and the guy who now does hair plugs commercials, and many others. all the seasons have had weak vocalists so Taylor could have tried out for idol and MADE it on that stage, based on looks alone she would have made it. So please, lets not act like you have to be a good singer to make it or even audition for idol. I simply said she didn't use that as an easy tool and I was right. I had to address that since we all know Idol has several bad singers that make it very far and actually go on the idol tour. Not to mention, you don't need to be a good singer to try out for the show and make it on to the tv screen....she could have even done that for publicity if she wanted to but she chose not to. BTW, I just saw a grammy commercial.

Those pundits need to get real! Beyonce's best chances at taking home anything in the general field would be ROTY or SOTY, not AOTY. The panel put her through and the nomination will be her award.

I didnt eaither but the I thought about it it sold alot, had a very sucessful singles run,and got OK reviews. I think her biggest advantage is that this album took her from icon to legend. AND it is Beyonce...

Yea, I agree strange things have happened and there is a possibility, but I don't see it happening. If it does, it would be one of the worst wins ever. No Beyonce hate, but I cannot see that album taking such a huge award. ROTY or SOTY would be fine, but c'mon! I think the voters will go with DMB or Taylor. If I'm wrong, then I'd eat my words.

I think her biggest advantage is that this album took her from icon to legend. This is the most ridiculous thing you have said. This album has done nothing for Beyonce's legacy as an "icon" or "legend." Really? This isn't a career defining album.

Stranger things have happen. I cant believe you all think its not even in the realm of possiblities LOL Beyonce definitely has a shot. Some here are bent on believing that the best singer should absolutely win the vocalist category. Perhaps for the album category people believe that the best reviewed album should win perhaps that's why people aren't picking Beyonce, because she doesn't have the best critically reviewed album nor is it the most commercially successful of the bunch. But Beyonce could win it because she is nominated, just like Taylor could win vocal categories because she's nominated. Nothing is certain.

AM i the only one that think I AM SASHA is a great album i can think of worse albums that won...
2007 - Herbie Hancock - "River: The Joni Letters" 2008 - Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - "Raising Sand" 1996 - Celine Dion - "Falling Into You" 2001 - "O' Brother Where Art Thou" (Soundtrack) 2003 - Outkast - "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below"
some of these arent the greatest but i think they won bc of who the artist is

If Beyonce has a shot, then so do GaGa and Black Eyed Peas, but people would laugh if anyone predict them, which I'm not. I'm just saying... What was the weirdest win in AOTY this decade? I don't think the Herbie Hancock win was any weirder than a Steely Dan win or O Brother Where Art Thou? win. The older voters clearly had an effect on most of the wins this decade.
