As I understand it, to be eligible for BNA, this has to be the first year that you made an impact, which precludes people nominated for any Grammy award in prior years. [Kinda seems like a strategic error by Lady Gaga's label to put her up last year for Just Dance.]
I think that Cook has a good case for a BNA nomination. I think that the industry knows what he's done, and it's the industry that will do the nominations for BNA. As for any other nominations, I tend to think Permanent for best rock vocal, particularly if they put the live version from the AI finale. That was a ridiculous vocal.
I like the U2 and Bruce Springsteen CDs, but honestly, I would not think that they deserve a bunch of nominations. Which kind of makes me sad to say.

The Latin categories will be full of Shakira, since her new single is coming out soon. Juanes should get some nominations too.

These three albums are shoo-ins: Fearless (There's no denying it, Swift was huge this year) 808's and Heartbreak (Grammy loves giving Kanye nominations) Big Whisky and GrooGrux King (Big seller, LeRoi makes some appeals, and it's a solid album)
and then the last spot could go to one of these alternative artists: Metric for Fantasies Lily Allen for It's Not Me, It's You Yeah Yeah Yeahs for It's Blitz!
or it could go to Beyonce for I Am...Sasha Fierce Kid Cudi for Man On The Moon: End Of The Day (if it's released on time: it's current release date is August 25) U2 for New Line On The Horizon Green Day for 21st Century Breakdown.
I think the FINAL will look like this: Fearless 808s and Heartbreak Big Whisky... Man on the Moon: End Of The Day It's Blitz!
...with 21st Century Breakdown taking Kid Cudi's nom if it's not released in time.
New Artist will probably look like this: Kid Cudi Erin McCarly David Cook Passion Pit or Ida Maria (hopefully? Grammy usually throws one curveball in this category) and something like Drake or something.
Maybe. I think I'm banking on a lack of great mainstream music in most of these. As well, I think Grammy is going to start looking at underground music and alternative a lot more closely now that the internet has undeniably taken over the music industry.

Eminem will get nominated for multiple grammys. He will likely win Rap album of the year as well. He will more than likely win it again for Relapse 2 in '11 unless it's like Encore which was his only album that has not won rap album of the year.

I don't know about Yeah Yeah Yeahs! or Kid Cudi. I think they pretty much have 0% chance. U2, Green Day are good possibles as well.

Album Of The Year It's Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeahs --- The "Indie" pick (sometimes known as the "New Guy" pick) Fearless by Taylor Swift --- The "Pop/Country" pick No Line On the Horizon by U2 --- The "Godfather" pick Big Whisky and GrooGrux King by Dave Matthews Band --- "Finally You Made a Decent Album" 808s and Heartbreak by Kanye West --- The "Rap/R&B" pick
Record Of The Year Love Story by Taylor Swift --- Critics darling. The old song. Day 'n' Nite by Kid Cudi ---Big enough impact on music industry. Zero by Yeah Yeah Yeahs --- The song no one really heard. Diane Birch, Regina Spektor, Laura Izibor --- depends on who receives more radio play Beyonce or Black Eyed Peas --- could go either way. Biggest song of the summer.
Song Of The Year Always unpredictable. ---A rap/r&b song ---Across the pond ---"WTF?!" song/ Biggest song of the year ---The one no one heard ---Sympathy
Best New Artist Kid Cudi --- The Biggest Hit Maker. Keri Hilson --- Token girl from USA. Carolina Liar --- One hit single, a good amount of people like them. Laura Izibor --- From across the pond, kinda on the radio. Ida Maria --- From across the pond. Totally random pick; no one knows who she/they are.

Lady Gaga may not be eligible for BNA, but she's going to pick up a good amount of nominations. If you're interested in tracking the Grammy nominations, I suggest going to goldderby.com. It's a fantastic awards web site. Over there, they're thinking she can get around 5 nominations. Female pop vocal for LG, or PF (whatever she submits), PF or LG for dance recording, Pop album or Dance album, plus, it looks likely that she'll pick up a nomination in a general field category, most likely either record (for PF) and/or album of the year.

^ I am fairly certain that Love Story was already submitted for Record and Song of the year in 2008, as well as Country Female Vocal Performance, and did not make the cut. So it is not eligible this year for consideration. It was on the Leaked List that we got to see last year for submissions.
I don't see how Ida Maria can get BNA with just one song out? But maybe she is bigger in the UK?
I can see the following for BNA so far:
1. Keri Hilson 2. David Cook 3. Drake if eligible
Beyond that, it is hard to say. Noone but Lady Gaga really made a huge impact as a new artist this year, and she is supposedly not eligible for BNA.
Album: Strong Contenders so Far
Kanye Dave Matthews Band U2 Eminem Brad Paisely or Unknown Country Album for the Country slot (as the Grammy voters tend to go for traditional country, not the most sales or popcountry).
Other Possibilities for Album:
Beyonce? Kelly Clarkson Lady Gaga Pink? Whitney Houston?

With the sudden death of Michael Jackson, you can bet that next years Grammys will probably be dedicated to him. I'm sure they will have a huge segment on him with a medly of his songs performed by others. They did the same thing with Luther Vandross a few years back. I at least hope so.....

^ I really hope so. They need to do a great tribute to MJ... maybe even make him the MusicCares Person of the year, and have a whole show dedicated to him pre-grammy week... as well as a tribute on the main show.
I can see Justin Timberlake, Usher, etc- being asked to do an MJ song... Perhaps Janet will do something too.

I don't really think Taylor can be denied for AOTY though. Some Hearts was just as big a seller and it was denied... Yeah, but Fearless is a much better album than Some Hearts, and is reviewed way better. Plus, Fearless has been a rocket success, and Some Hearts wasn't.

I could see Katy Perry getting a nomination for Hot N Cold in the pop categories. She wouldn't win anything, but a nomination would be nice.

Plus, Fearless has been a rocket success, and Some Hearts wasn't. Respectfully disagree with you. While which Album is "better" is purely subjective, you are mistaken on a few key points. 1. Some Hearts sold 7x platinum, and Fearless is only at 3x platinum. It is highly unlikely that it will ever reach the heights of Carrie's Album in terms of sales... as it will likely top out at 4x platinum or maybe 5x platinum at best. 2. Some Hearts was the Fastest Selling Debut Country Album in history..and still holds that record I believe. It was a "rocket" success in every meaning of the word. 3. Some Hearts had 5 number 1 hits, if you include Inside Your Heaven. Carnival Ride produced 5 Number 1 hits as well, and is at 3x platinum in sales. 4. Some Hearts won Album of the year for all Genres at the Billboard music awards for sales, and won Top country Album 2 years in a row. It also won Country Album of the year at the American Music Awards. 5. Carrie's album produced 3 Grammys for Carrie, and also 2 more Grammys for Country Songs of the year. 6. While Carnival Ride got the best reviews of Carrie's albums, Some Hearts did get decent reviews as well. 7. Some Hearts won Album of the year at the ACMS...Fearless did too, so that is a tie I guess. lol

^ Ok, I get that, but I still think she'll get a nom. The grammys LOVE to jump on runaway trains. "Fearless" is the people's album of the year. She won't get love from the country categories, but I'm thinking she'll get AOTY or at least SOTY for "White Horse."

Over the past two years the country voting segment of NARAS has completely shut out Taylor; she cannot rely on their support for the token "country" album of the year nod. Albeit, aside from Brad's album, I dont think she has much competition. On the other hand, maybe no "country" album will be nominated?

I have trouble believing Taylor will get nominated for album of the year. Although her sales are amazing as well as the album quality, it just isn't Grammy quality. The Grammys tend to lean towards very different and unique music. Lets face it, Taylor's music is many things, but unique isn't one of them. She tends to stick towards the same subject of High School relationships and drama. Although Taylor's album material is 100% original, it just doesn't measure up to grammy quality...imo at least.

Taylor will get an AOTY nomination and rightfully so. It has sold excellently and it is a solid effort. While the subject is premature and overdone, she tackles MOST of the songs with an interesting, more adult perspective. (Notice I say MOST.)

Over the past two years the country voting segment of NARAS has completely shut out Taylor; she cannot rely on their support for the token "country" album of the year nod. You're right about Country field voters in NARAS. But it's worth keeping in mind that unlike the genre fields (where the top five vote-getters get nominated), the General field nods are ultimately decided by a blue ribbon panel, which selects five out of the top twenty vote-getters in the Album, Song and Record of the Year categories as well as Best New Artist. As I said a while back, I think it's very possible that the blue ribbon panel will nominate Fearless to acknowledge the young songwriting ingenue and her popularity. This is, after all, the same blue ribbon panel that nominated the Jonas Brothers and Taylor Swift in the Best New Artist category when both failed to get nominations in any other category.* I think the folks on that panel are going to keep viewer demographics in mind, even if NARAS voters have historically preferred adult-oriented fare. Albeit, aside from Brad's album, I dont think she has much competition. On the other hand, maybe no "country" album will be nominated? Lee Ann Womack got nodded in the Female Country Vocal category last year over Taylor (among others) and her album would be eligible this year. But it probably hasn't sustained sufficient critical and commercial buzz among traditional country voters to get a General Field nod for Album of the Year. George Strait just won his first Grammy this past year and it was in the Country Album category; he is releasing a new album called Twang within the eligibility period. I tend to think that he isn't likely to receive a General Field nod for it, though. One album to possibly watch out for is Elvis Costello's recent release, Secret, Profane & Sugarcane. It has a bluegrassy feel to it, and it is produced by the legendary T Bone Burnett, who also produced last year's AotY winner, the Robert Plant/Alison Krauss, Raising Sand. The album is getting very good reviews, and the talent involved have the kind of pedigree that generally goes over well with NARAS voters. Although maybe the blue ribbon panel won't want to go back to the same producer in two consecutive years. * This makes me wonder: is Miley Cyrus eligible for BNA? The thought of her getting nominated makes me cringe, but I had to ask.

I'm curious to see what moms Bey gets. The Grammys love Bey and she's in the midst of worldwide success with this album, greater than what she's had in the past. IIWAB, SL and Halo have been certified smash hits worldwide and Diva and Ego have even done amazingly well in Urban markets. I Am...Sasha Fierce has been a smash hit too selling more than 2.2 million in the US alone and more than 600k in the UK plus boat loads in Europe. I think she's up for some major Grammy love this year again...they'll go nicely with the other 10 she's amassed...

The thought makes me cringe, but I had to ask. I completely forgot about Lee Ann...I remember it got rave reviews so I wouldn't be too surprised if it snuck in. I don't think Miley is eligible for BNA as she had See You Again last year...but then again, the JoBros were nominated after their "breakout" year... I would love for Keri to win BNA but we will see how that goes. As far as Country Female Performance, I would love to see what ends up getting nominated for Carrie - ITYS or JaD (or maybe her next debut single!?). While I don't think she will win just because it would get old, I'm still crossing my fingers as I didnt think she would win for "Last Name" too! My heart tells me this is Martina's year with "I Call You Mine"...but we will see! Another question that Dudley and others have raised in the past - will Taylor's label submit her to pop categories or country? YBWM could easily be a pop nom, as could her album. I don't think Cook will get a BNA nod but I'm horrible at these prediction games.
