"I'm A Slave 4 U" had no cultural relevance whatsoever. Good lord. Keep telling yourself that. I like how you just typed an empty put down instead of actually giving me an example of it's cultural relevance.

SLAVE is one of Britney's most WELL KNOWN songs (even if it did flop on radio). It SOLIDIFIED her relevance with the Black Audience and gained her more fans than ANY OTHER SONG.

Haha, exactly. Slave's cultural relevance is FAR bigger than it's chart peaks. That whole Britney era was a bit of a commercial mess. Great singles on the album, but soooo many bad decisions from her record label. "I'm A Slave 4 U" had no cultural relevance whatsoever. Good lord. I kind of agree. It was big for Britney, it was a breakthrough for her in the respect that it took her away from her poppy-bubble gum songs and introduced her in a more sexual and provocative light. It was her transition single and was important to her. I am not sure if it was important to others. It will most likely be remembered for the risque video, her 2001 VMA performance however it had miniscule radio support and that may be what stopped it from becoming more relevant now. It is defineltly a memorable song in her catalog and is memorable as a milestone-highlight in her career but I wouldn't call it necessairly relevant. It was a big pop culture moment, and it is relevant in Britney scope but not really as huge as the Madonna-Britney kiss, her breakdown, her debut or her comeback.

SLAVE is one of Britney's most WELL KNOWN songs (even if it did flop on radio). It SOLIDIFIED her relevance with the Black Audience and gained her more fans than ANY OTHER SONG. I honestly think Toxic did that for her.. Everyone that I know that isnt big on Britney or actually doesnt like her like only this song.. and then the fans obviously love it too. But yeah, IMO Slave was something really big for Britney even though it didnt do much chart wise.. like Dirrty for Christina. The videos helped people remember them, I dont think anyone that saw em with forget em. ![](http://yoursmiles.org/ssmile/fun/s0244.gif)

Masterpiece is always quick to judge songs, let him be.
Straight to hell on the other hand... no cultural relevance? You mean to tell me we don't have a new Princess of Pop who has pointed to that video as "I've gotta say 'Slave 4 U' was a moment for everyone. When that bitch came out with that slamin' body and that sweaty video we were all like, 'We can't hate on you.' She ended every pop diva queen's life. It's a good video."
It's not Britney's #1 single BOMT, it's not the Oops! album which sold like hot cakes, it's when Britney came out and proved to the world that she was more than a buggle-gum teeny bopper and that she'd be around to stay.
If inspiring future generations of pop artists with just a VIDEO isn't cultural relevance, I don't know what is.

SLAVE is one of Britney's most WELL KNOWN songs (even if it did flop on radio). It SOLIDIFIED her relevance with the Black Audience and gained her more fans than ANY OTHER SONG. All of those might be true, but that still doesn't make it culturally relevant. I like how you just typed an empty put down instead of actually giving me an example of it's cultural relevance. Well, I like that you liked it. I didn't give a proper response since the original post was just ridiculous .OK then. If you don't want to give me any ways that it was culturally relevant then I'll carry on believing it was not. You mean to tell me we don't have a new Princess of Pop who has pointed to that video as "I've gotta say 'Slave 4 U' was a moment for everyone. When that b***h came out with that slamin' body and that sweaty video we were all like, 'We can't hate on you.' She ended every pop diva queen's life. It's a good video." I can't pretend that I completely followed that, but just because Lady GaGa (right?) likes a video doesn't make it culturally relevant.

Billboard Review
If U Seek Amy Britney Spears reunites with the man behind her first hits (". . . Baby One More Time," "Oops! . . . I Did It Again") for another slice of indisputable pop mojo. While the title and chorus have stirred up a bit of controversy, warranting the label to service radio with a tamer "If U See Amy," Spears has certainly proved that she can rise above any negative press. Besides a sensationalistic lyric that does seem to be built around an excuse tospell out the similar-sounding letters in the title, everything else is Max Martin and Spears at their best: astomping dancefloor beat with building synthsprodding the song along andthe singer sounding like she's having a blast being the bad girl. While previous singles were instant top five successes based on first-week digital sales before the release of "Circus," "Amy" is moving up the old-fashioned way, with rising airplay and sales, showing the makings of a true hit. —Chris Williams
