Not at all. Previous rockers didn't prance about the stage making idiotic faces at the camera, silly dances and turn soulful subtle songs into balls-to-the wall theatrical pantomimes. He performs and sings like a drag queen. Don't know or care if he's into dudes.

I want an album similar in sound to "Ring of Fire," "Mad World," and that performance he did with KISS last night. If not, then silly and fun pop songs in the vein of Mika would please me as well.

I must say that I hope he refines his stage act a bit. I have no problem with him being flamboyant (Ring of Fire was brilliant), but he just needs to be sensible with it. Like, try connecting to the lyrics of the songs a bit better rather than being artificially outlandish.

10. Clay Aiken
He started out as the nerdy kid with the wire specs, got cut in the round of 32, came back as a wild card, got a makeover, became an unlikely heartthrob and rode a powerful set of pipes — and the whole "geek to chic" thing — all the way to the finals of season two, where he lost a nail-biter to Ruben Studdard. But he didn't let that stop him: Post-"Idol," he's sold a ton of albums (his debut, Measure of a Man, bowed at #1, selling a staggering 613,000 copies in its first week), starred in Broadway plays, became a pop-culture touchstone, proved that he has a rather deft touch for comedy and, oh, came out of the closet. 9. LaToya London
A total and complete powerhouse of a performer, London blew the socks off everybody for something like 10 consecutive weeks, earning high praise and standing ovations for her takes on "All by Myself," "Ain't Nobody" and "Somewhere." But she won't be remembered just for her voice: Drama seemed to follow her at every turn. When she and fellow divas Jennifer Hudson and Fantasia Barrino ended up in the bottom three, it provoked calls of racism (from Elton John, of all people) and brought into question the validity of the entire "Idol" voting system. London survived, but was eventually sent packing a few weeks later. Her ouster and tearful farewell performance of "Don't Rain on My Parade" remain two of the most memorable "Idol" moments.

8. Elliott Yamin
People forget just how great Yamin was on the fifth season of "Idol," earning high praise from judges and mentors alike. Simon Cowell called him "potentially the best male vocalist" in the show's history, and his stirring take on Leon Russell's "A Song for You" remains one of the finest "Idol" performances ever. Yamin ended up finishing third, behind Katharine McPhee and Taylor Hicks (seriously), and while his post-"Idol" career hasn't been huge, his self-titled 2005 debut bowed at #3 and has since gone gold. Couple that with a compelling backstory (his hearing loss, his late mother's battle with an undisclosed illness) and Yamin might be the most underrated Idol in history.

7. David Cook
With a voice tailor-made for modern-rock radio, an innate sense of humor and a penchant for taking risks with his arrangements, Cook was the everydude who became king during the seventh season of "Idol." Having spent his formative years kicking around in various Midwestern rock outfits (Axium, the Midwest Kings), Cook put his training to good use, turning tunes like Lionel Richie's "Hello" into angsty stompers. He bested runner-up David Archuleta by some 12 million votes, and post-"Idol," his debut has gone platinum and spawned a pair of hit singles ("Light On" and "Time of My Life").

6. Jennifer Hudson
Her exit from "Idol" was arguably the most shocking in show history, but she's more than moved on. Hudson already has a Grammy and an Oscar to her name, and her self-titled debut album bowed at #2, selling more than 200,000 copies. Her run during the third season of "Idol" started rocky — she made the top 12 as a wild card, then spent two of the next three weeks in the bottom three — but she turned it around with a big-time take on Elton John's "Circle of Life" and then kicked it into overdrive with a version of Whitney Houston's untouchable "I Have Nothing." Of course, he ended up losing in the finals to nice guy Kris Allen, but regardless of where he goes from here, in a lot of respects, Lambert's already won.

4. Chris Daughtry
The greatest rocker in "American Idol" history, and he didn't even win the competition. Daughtry's sandpapery voice, authenticity and blue-collar personality made him stand out from any of the so-called "rock guys" who came before him (see: Bice, Bo), and he's since become the benchmark against which "rock guys" who come after will be judged (see: Cook, David). His version of Fuel's "Hemorrhage (In My Hands)" was so good, the guys in the band offered to make him their lead singer, and though he eventually finished fourth, his post-show career has been meteoric: His self-titled debut album went platinum in five weeks, becoming the fastest-selling rock debut in SoundScan history. It spent an astounding 116 weeks on the Billboard top 100, and has since been certified as quintuple-platinum.

3. Carrie Underwood
One of the strongest "Idol" contestants in history (she positively dominated the fourth season, never coming close to the bottom three) and the biggest star the show has ever produced. From her first audition, Simon Cowell predicted that not only would Underwood win the competition, but that she would "outsell all previous 'Idol' winners," and, uh, he was right on both counts. Underwood has become a massive country star, with her debut, Some Hearts, being certified septuple-platinum by the RIAA (it's the fastest-selling country debut in the SoundScan era), and the follow-up, Carnival Ride, has sold more than 2.8 million copies to date and has remained in the top 100 for 82 weeks (and counting).

2. Kelly Clarkson
She's the original Idol, and while her performances on the show were great (particularly the Motown stuff and her post-victory take on "A Moment Like This"), it's Clarkson's willingness to forge her own path post-"Idol" that lands her at #2. Her second album, Breakaway, featured the massive "Since U Been Gone" and showed her distancing herself from the show, and she's only gone further off the path since. My December was really dark and personal, and the just-released All I Ever Wanted has already spawned two hit singles and showcases her growing artistic side. In a lot of ways, Clarkson is everything you could ask for in a pop star, and then some.

That's a given, i'd think. He will need theatrics to sell records, IMHO.....That's who he is.

I do want Adam to dabble in electropop but nothing too overtly poppy. That's not him. Whatever he does needs to be rock-tinged so maybe he should do some synthpop a la the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' new stuff.

Great care needs to be taken to ensure that his music not only fits his persona but can support his voice. I do like some of RedOne's productions but I don't want Adam working with people who are going to try to turn him into something he isn't. That has been the downfall of many former AI contestants.

Clay Aiken and Adam Lambert's names have been linked quite a bit in the media lately--not just because of rumors (reported in the Chicago Sun-Times last week) that Clay actually wanted to record a duet with Adam, but because after Adam's shocking second-place finish on American Idol this week, many Lambert supporters have predicted that Adam will follow in Clay's footsteps and ultimately be more successful than the singer who actually won this year, Kris Allen..

But yesterday on his official website, ClayOnline.com, Clay Aiken made it clear in a personal blog titled "Silence Broken" that he is not a Lambert supporter at all. .

Posting in the subscription-only "Ultimate Membership" section of his site, Clay responded to a fan's query about his opinions on Wednesday night's Idol finale with this rant:.

"Now that it's all over, and for the record.... I couldn't be happier about the way AI ended this year. I only turn the show on once a season, and only to see what the set looks like each year. This year, I happened to turn it during the minute that Adam Lambert was singing 'Ring of Fire' and, at that moment, thought my ears would bleed. Contrived, awful, and slightly frightening! I wasn't really a fan and found myself surprised whenever folks told me that they liked him. Granted, I never saw another performance (and many folks who I trust said that he was great) but I can't imagine I would have enjoyed it. Just not my cup of tea at all. To each his own. I never saw Kris sing on the show, but whether he was good or not is really relative. It's usually a matter of taste, right? But Idol is not always a matter of musical taste only. It's about the person you like. From what little I saw, Kris seemed likable. (That's not to say that Adam isn't just as likable as anyone.. maybe more so... I don't know) When Ruben and I were standing next to each other every night (many years ago) you had two equally talented, equally unlikely, equally unpolished contestants.... so it really was a matter of taste as to who was voted for. While some may argue that one of us was hyped more than the other, I don't feel that was the case. However, this year, there was an obvious bias. Not even having watched the show, I can tell you that I was WELL aware of the bias from the judges as to who should win. In my opinion, that is awfully unattractive. I don't think I am alone.".

Wow! And...MEOW!.

Surely some will jump to the conclusion that Clay's bitter post was spurned by his un-amicable split with BMG and 19 Entertainment, or by 19's rumored attempts to prevent Clay from collaborating with Adam. And it does seem that if there's any "feud" going on here, it's between Clay and the Idol machine, not Clay and Adam himself. .

The blog continues:.

"In my opinion, it all often comes down to that last night of voting. Until the finale, folks are voting for the contestant that they want to see continue. But, I believe that on that last night, the dynamic changes. No longer forced to choose one person that they want to see win, the audience can effectively vote AGAINST the person that they don't want to see win. In the case of season two this might have happened. There may have been some folks who voted for myself or Ruben because they didn't like the other of us. I was the nerdy little girly boy who some didn't want to see win, so they may have voted for Ruben. I don't know. .. But again, I feel that Ruben and I were fairly matched. We both had our detractors and negatives, but I feel we were both very worthy of being on that stage in that moment, and either of us would have been worthy of winning. The show was different then, and folks made it in seasons 1-3 because they were 'real' people who happened to sing/entertain well. But, somewhere along the way, AI stopped being about real people..

In a battle between David and Goliath, my money is on David!.

I think many voters got sick of being 'told who to vote for'. I think many were turned off by the blatant favoritism shown towards one contestant. Therefore, on that last night, they used their votes against a contestant that they were tired of hearing about and for the contestant who had been written off. And, at the same time, I think they voted AGAINST an American Idol that has, for four years now, been more about the slick productions and polished contestants than it has been about finding the raw talent that it did in its first three seasons..

Those votes for Kris were also votes to return the show to its roots of finding 'real' contestants with undiscovered talent and giving them the chance to grow and shine. They were votes that said 'we're tired of seeing contestants who already seem to know it all'..

More Rubens, more Clays, more Fantasias and Tamyras and Kellys please.' My faith has always been in the voters. I think they have gotten it right every year (mine included). Hmmm...but you know, maybe Clay's motives aren't so sinister after all. Maybe (despite his claim that he never saw Kris perform on the show, which seems odd) he just prefers Kris Allen's music--which, like Clay's, is pretty safe, sweet, and mellow. However, if Clay WAS trying to record a duet with Adam, this blog sure isn't going to help his chances. Maybe he should try to collaborate with Kris instead?

^^ Clay has always been a classy guy, so I am quite shocked to read his rant, especially to speak so harshly against Adam. I can understand wanting to badmouth 19 Entertainment because I feel he was screwed over by them, but this..... WOW !

Ooooh... that's a good one, but I dunno. I think Electro/Pop will keep him from screaming... which turns me off...
