I don't want Katy Perry. I like the idea of a Gaga collabo more but I do hope Adam's voice is showcased to its potential and isnt covered up by beats and auto-tune.

Idol Adam Lambert 'comes out' in print Adam Lambert is gay. The American Idol Season 8 runner-up ends any speculation in the next issue of Rolling Stone, out Friday. "I don't think it should be a surprise for anyone to hear I'm gay." He explains: "I've been living in Los Angeles for eight years as a gay man. I've been at clubs drunk making out with somebody in the corner." The Idol favorite, who finished in second place after Kris Allen, says, "Right after the finale, I almost started talking about it to the reporters, but I thought, 'I'm going to wait for Rolling Stone, that will be cooler.' " He adds, " I'm proud of my sexuality." Still, Lambert, 27, says he doesn't mind attention from the opposite sex. "I loved it this season when the girls went crazy for me," he says. "As far as I'm concerned, it's all hot." But exactly what is his type? When Idol producers put him in a room to share with Allen, Lambert says his first thought was, "They put me with the cute guy. Distracting! He's the one guy I found attractive in the whole group on the show: nice, nonchalant, pretty and totally my type — except that he has a wife. I mean he's open-minded and liberal, but he's definitely 100% straight." As for the scandal over photos of Lambert in drag that surfaced on the Internet in March, he says, he forgot to remove photos from his profile on a social network for the Burning Man festival in Nevada. "Wasn't ready for that," he tells RS of the photos of him in costume making out with his ex. He was worried that people would think the drag ensemble was typical of him. "I've only dressed in drag three or four times. ... I don't tuck and wear breasts, that's not me." Though Lambert supports the gay-rights movement, he doesn't want to be its poster boy. "I'm trying to be a singer, not a civil rights leader." Stereotypes about gays do annoy Lambert. "Clay Aiken's gay, and I'm gay, and we couldn't be more different. The only thing that is the same about everyone in the gay community is that we're gay. ... Why can't we talk about a human community?" In addition to his homosexuality, Lambert shares other personal details with RS. At 21, he was in a European tour of Hair for six months. That was when he dyed his hair black. In Germany, he started smoking pot and tried Ecstasy. But he does have limits. Among his dislikes: cocaine. "That drug is such a reflection of the lack of self-esteem and control people have over themselves and their lives," he says. www.usatoday.com/life/people/2009-06-09-lambert-rollingstone_N.htm?loc=interstitialskip

Thank heavens they gave Adam a typical RS cover and not some People Magazine-style "Yes, I'm Gay" banner. I'll pick up the magazine so I'm hoping the article isn't just about him being gay either.

Im very glad he's speaking out in this way. Yes he's gay, but that's not all that defines him (even though it's what people are interested in and will be a big sell). There needs to be more focus on the person and their work, not their personal lives.

Here's an excerpt: American Idol’s glamtastic runner-up Adam Lambert opens up in the next issue of Rolling Stone, speaking frankly about his sexuality, though he doesn’t think his revelation is particularly shocking.
“I don’t think it should be a surprise for anyone to hear that I’m gay,” Lambert says in the new issue of Rolling Stone, hitting newsstands this week. (Click here to check out exclusive video of his cover shoot).
The flamboyant Idol singer hits our cover and bares all, talking about his childhood (”I started to realize I wasn’t like every other boy,” he says), the drug-fueled Burning Man epiphany that led him to AI (”I realized that we all have our own power, and that whatever I wanted to do, I had to make happen,” he tells RS) and his run on the show (”I was like, ‘I’m going to glue rhinestones on my eyelids, bitch!’ “). And yes, he talks about his sexuality. “Right after the finale, I almost started talking about it to the reporters, but I thought, ‘I’m going to wait for Rolling Stone, that will be cooler,’ ” he tells us. “I didn’t want the Clay Aiken thing and the celebrity-magazine bullshit. I need to be able to explain myself in context.
“I’m proud of my sexuality,” Lambert adds. “I embrace it. It’s just another part of me.” Ultimately, however Lambert tells RS contributor Vanessa Grigoriadis that there are other parts of his life that he’s trying to keep front and center. “I’m trying to be a singer, not a civil rights leader,” he says.
It was that mission — and his Burning Man “psychedelic experience” — that lead him to Idol after years in musical theater. “I knew that it was my only shot to be taken seriously in the recording industry, because it’s fast and broad,” he tells RS. (See photos of Lambert’s remarkable American Idol run here.)
He details his experience on Idol, his true thoughts on winner Kris Allen and how his sexuality impacted his Idol run in our cover story, “Wild Idol: The Psychedelic Transformation and Sexual Liberation of Adam Lambert,” which hits newsstands this week.

Adam Lambert: I'm Gay and Proud Of It After months of speculation, rumors and suggestive photos, it's finally official: 'American Idol' runner-up Adam Lambert is coming out, telling Rolling Stone magazine that he's gay and proud of it. Even Lambert himself says that his admission probably won't come as a shocker to many who have followed his rise to fame. "I don't think it should be a surprise for anyone to hear that I'm gay," he tells Rolling Stone in their exclusive reveal. "I'm proud of my sexuality. I embrace it. It's just another part of me," Lambert says. The 'Idol' rocker says that he was tempted immediately after the 'Idol' finale to discuss it, but he says: "I thought, 'I'm going to wait for Rolling Stone, that will be cooler,'" he says. So why, exactly, did he save the news for a major magazine spread? "I didn't want the Clay Aiken thing and the celebrity-magazine bull----. I need to be able to explain myself in context," Lambert tells Rolling Stone. "Control of this situation" is very important to Lambert. He feels that "everyone has an opinion of me, and I want a chance to say, ‘Well, do you want to hear how I really feel about all this?'" During his 'Idol' run, Lambert for a long time was considered the front-runner, winning fans of all types along the way. "I loved it this season when girls went crazy for me. As far as I'm concerned, it's all hot. Just because I'm not sticking it in there doesn't mean that I don't find it beautiful," Lambert (graphically) tells Rolling Stone. Lambert even goes on to share his feelings toward sharing a living space with 'Idol' champion Kris Allen. He says that when the show moved them in together, "I was like, 'Oh, s--t, they put me with the cute guy.' Distracting! He's the one guy that I found attractive in the whole group on the show: nice, nonchalant, pretty and totally my type – except that he has a wife. I mean, he's open-minded and liberal, but he's definitely 100 percent straight." All of those older photos that hit the Internet purportedly showing Lambert kissing another man and dressed up in drag? Legit, Lambert says. "I've only dressed in drag three or four times – and of course I took pictures, because I looked amazing – but I don't tuck and I don't wear breasts, that's not me. Sucking my boy's face? Yes, that I will own," he joked. The photos were never directly addressed by Lambert until now because he was afraid they'd "be so sensationalized that it would overshadow what I was there to do, which was sing ... It shouldn't matter. (sighs) Except it does. (shaking head) It's really confusing." In April, PopEater readers pretty much had Lambert figured out. In a poll asking "Do you think Adam Lambert is gay?" in reaction to the public buzz, 88 percent of more than 122,000 readers voted "Absolutely" while just 12 percent said "No way." Speaking openly about this subject matter hasn't always come easy for Lambert. He says that during school, he was "so scared" of his sexuality. He never even confirmed the news to his parents, who found out in shocking fashion. Adam's father Eber caught his 13-year-old son looking at gay pornography on the family computer, and turned to his wife and said 'It's official.' Later, Lambert's mother asked if he had a girlfriend. He said no. She asked if he had a boyfriend. He said no. Then she asked if he wanted a boyfriend, to which Lambert replied "Yes, that would be nice." "Suddenly, it was like a wall dropped, and we started gabbing like crazy," Lambert says. While Lambert is certainly a proponent of gay marriage -- which many thought his rendition of Sam Cooke's 'A Change Gonna Come' on 'Idol' was tip of the hat to -- he says he's not looking to be a spokesperson for the movement. "I'm trying to be a singer, not a civil rights leader," he says. Through it all, Lambert says he's "finally checked in to my self-worth for the first time in my life, and the fact that it has coincided with 'Idol' is so sweet." Sure, he still has his self doubts, but, as he put it, "for the most part, when I look in the mirror now, I finally see somebody who can do something cool." www.popeater.com/music/article/adam-lambert-admits-hes-gay/520000

That Rolling STone cover is hideous- not memorable or iconic at all.
I don't understand what he means he didn't want to go the Clay Aiken route- he did exactly what Clay did- except he did it in Rolling Stone and Clay did it in People. I do like his honesty.

Love the cover! I also like the fact that they didn't put the cliche "Yes, I'm Gay" on the cover.

No offense to Adam and his Glambots, but didn't Kris Allen win Idol?? LOL. Who? It's like the Miss USA 2009 Pageant [Miss California Carrie Prejean] and Britain's Got Talent [Susan Boyle]. Nobody knows the winner's name but, everybody knows who came in second. Sometimes it's better to come in 2nd place. ROTFLOL

Have any other Idol winners been on the cover of RS? Ruben Studdard has been on the cover of RS. Rolling Stones is not a music magazine. It's more of a pop culture/politics/music magazine. The cast from MTV's The Hills were on the cover of Rolling Stones.

GLAAD Statement on Adam Lambert's Interview with Rolling Stone www.glaad.org/Page.aspx?pid=748“As more and more Americans get to know gay and lesbian people, it has a tremendous impact in terms of creating awareness, understanding and acceptance of our community,” said Neil. G. Giuliano, President of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD). “American Idol has become iconic in our culture, and as Adam continues to share his story during his post-Idol career, we hope his decision to live openly and honestly inspires gay people and opens the hearts and minds of his fans and others he will continue to entertain.”

1)I knew he had a crush on Kris, very funny though.
2)Yay for him he's on RS. But the real test will come when his record is released. I just wanna see if the sales match the hype he has. Because im not convinced. Just Sayin'!

The cover is weak. But thankfully "I'M GAY, HAAAY" isn't branded across. Lambert even goes on to share his feelings toward sharing a living space with 'Idol' champion Kris Allen. This gives me hope that Kradam will live on. And... I wonder how Kris feels about Adam being on the cover of Rolling Stone. That's gotta sting. I mean, even the nicest, most humble guy has to feel something. I love Kris, but Adam is totally stealing his shine. Even Clay didn't get a cover on RS! :(

Adam is getting a lot of attention but their albums arent coming for another 4-5 months. Who knows what will be happening by then. I hope Adam is the most successful of the S8 alums! I want a ballad like his performance of A Change Gonna Come on the album...and something Ring of Fire-esque.
