Important Note Regarding Mediabase

Dear PMBers:

I guess with me being upset over Adam Lambert not winning American Idol, there has to be some more upsetting news to follow it.

Ever since the links first appeared on the R&R Boards back in 2003, I’ve been constantly viewing the Mediabase rolling charts to check up on my favorite songs, just as you guys have. It’s a really helpful tool, and I’m glad we had free access to them for quite a while.

Since late October, I’ve been providing you with 51-100 Mediabase Pop (and then Country) updates, as well as individual songs’ updates, and I can’t thank you enough for all the “thank you”’s and support you’ve given me these past few months. I’m really glad I could do something for you guys, as I was once in your shoes, wondering what happened to these free Mediabase links on that July day in 2008.

Unfortunately, it looks like I’ve returned to a familiar position.

On the night of the 19th, I logged onto my Mediabase account, only to find a “Mediabase Security Alert” page load instead of the usual MB interface. I immediately notified Mediabase, only to find that the account had been revoked for unknown reasons. Since I was given my login information by a person who is no longer working for the company (former president Rich Meyer), I’m afraid there’s nothing I can do and there will be no more 51-100 Chart Updates or early AT40s coming from me in the near future.

Since I guess it was my main job to provide Mediabase stats for you guys, and I no longer have those, my time here on PMB may be wrapping up. I think you guys are a great community, and I’m really sorry that I’ve failed you. Once again, I do appreciate everyone who has been supportive of the data I’ve posted and who I’ve helped along the way. Maybe, someday, Mediabase will loosen up a bit and give us more data, but until then, I’m afraid we’re stuck with AllAccess and Inside Radio’s shortened charts.

Thanks for all the updates you have done up to this point. I think you contribute to this board in a lot of other ways though. I always find your comments and predictions valuable. That really sucks about your mediabase account. We are going to all be guessing positions based on quickcut info now. lol.

You haven't 'failed' anyone. We still have access to Quick Cut data and while that's not as helpful at accurately depicting the chart for anything below top 50, it can still be used as a progress indicator. :) I liked the 51-100 postings, 'cause I got to compare QC with the main chart to see how close or far the spin/bullet info was between the two sources, but I can live without the actual chart segments seeing as for the most part we've doing without for nearly a year now anyway. :)

I'm really sorry to see that this has happened. We really enjoyed and certainly looked forward to all the updates that you were able to contribute on this board. :(

But most of all, UTR, we are deeply thankful and appreciate everything you've done for us over the past few months. It certainly goes a long way in demonstrating how much of a valuable member you have been to this community.

There's no reason whatsoever for you to feel bad or that you failed us because your presence on this board is more than we could have ever hoped for so that's always something to keep in mind. Take care and I'm sure we'll be hearing from you every now and then! :)

In a way, the Pulse CHR board has taken a special spark out of my life. I used to check the ARC Weekly Top 40 every week, having no idea in hell which songs were about to make top 40. It was a fun surprise every week. Why would you think for a second that you'd failed us? Especially if your account was revoked because someone found out that you were posting info here. If anything, blame us for that, since a number of people (myself included) practically begged you to post 51-100 until you cracked. ;) But anyway, Mediabase has failed us, not you.

As for you leaving over this, most of what I was going to say has already been mentioned in some form, but I'll add that you seem quite knowledgeable about how radio works and I've always appreciated having such members around here because they often add interesting new perspectives to conversations.

Wow! That was pretty overwhelming. Thanks so much, guys. I really appreciate it. I'm definitely gonna stay on, I just obviously feel bad that I can't give you any more stats.

I'm gonna be working as an intern at the local Hot AC here this Summer, so if I get to work with Mediabase or Neilsen BDS at all, I would definitely wanna help you guys out.

Anyways, I'm still a dedicated member on PMB so I'll still be seeing you guys around.

We've been blessed, thank you for all of your help. Someday we'll have updates and the early AT40s someway somehow. I'm not holding my breath, at the same time. It is what it is... Thank you once again, I appreciate your hard work of generously providing us the information.

thanks alot for all your previous charts . i am disapointed they are gone though the older ones can help give an idea where some songs are when combining that info with the Quick Cut Info updates.
