I'm sick of people pretending 27 is 47. 27 is still very young! Depends on the context. If we're talking teenybopper appeal like Miley has, during the Breakaway era, Kelly was at the outer limits of how old you can be and still have 14-15 year old girls relate to you. She's too grown-up for that now...just like Beyonce and Britney and Katy and Gaga and Christina are. They're all grown women and they have to present themselves as such.

@ Kelly Clarkson being too old to get hits with younger people. It's not about the age, it's about the material. Already Gone and IDNHU aren't the type of songs that a teenage girl would be singing. But MLWSWY was. It's just the material and the marketing for songs.

This song could be Clarkson's REAL come-back this year. Even if they won't release any other singles after 'Already Gone', her momentum will be huge enough to make sure that her next album's lead single will be even bigger than 'My Life Would Suck Without You', which was her come-back to commercial radio, after more than 2 years of being out of radio's playlists.

But MLWSWY was. It's just the material and the marketing for songs. That's partly true, and Kelly does still have plenty of younger fans. But my point is, there's a reason why year in and year out there are teenagers on the charts, many of them not all that talented. It's because teen fans relate to teens better than they do to adults. That's been true of teen musicians as long as there's been pop music. And as an artist grows into adulthood, they lose some of the benefit of that. Miley will have the same problem: when you're 26, you can't be Hannah Montana anymore. Anyway, great update today, these 3-digit updates on a daily basis are what's needed now to get into the 5-6,000 spin neighborhood that gets her into the Top 10.

with this kinda momentum, radio is blatantly feeling this on multiple formats (unlike IDNHU). Id be really thrown for loop if this just started to stall in any way.

SMASH.. its about time.. :)
This is the type of song Kelly should sing.. when there is great depth to the lyrics.. she just delivers it so well.. There are only two other artists I think can bring vulnerability to their song..

If anything, I thought that song was a desperate attempt to appeal to the younger crowd, but it didn't work, so they went with the more mature Already Gone. I realize that many teenage girls do indeed hook up, but I thought the song's lyrics were kinda juvenile and trying to appeal to the teen market. And it's true that teens relate more to teens, but it doesn't mean they only listen to teens. All of the artists mentioned as being "too mature" for teens now are still pretty big with the teenage market, especially Britney and GaGa.

Long Shot would've been a better choice to appeal to the younger market, it has that YBM, sweet/angsty/longing for a guy vibe that many girls (and I?) can relate to. But Kelly has been vocal about not liking that song too much so that's prob. why it wasn't considered, or at leats released.

this track is growing on me day by day. i found it stunning when i first heard it but these days it's in the mix for song of the year on my list.
do you guys think she might have a shot at the grammys next year? (best female pop performance or something like that)

She will without a doubt be nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for "Already Gone." Not sure what her chances of winning are, though... It's gonna be a tough year. "All I Ever Wanted" will most likely be nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album as well. Those are the only nominations I'm expecting.

it'll be interesting to see how "halo" fares in that category (i take it beyoncé is a lock as well) gieven the history of tedder's production.
who else is up against kelly? maybe katy perry? britney's probably gonan get a nod as well.

Her competition will most likely be Adele, Beyonce, P!nk and then possibly Leona, Katy and Britney. Wouldn't be surprised to see Taylor Swift get a nomination either since her label submitted her as well. Personally, I think Beyonce has it in the bag -- no questions asked. Then again, I thought there was absolutely no way in hell that Leona would lose for "Bleeding Love" last year... Unfortunately, she went home empty handed. It's very unpredictable these days.

I actually think Diane Birch has a really great shot at Female Pop Vocal for "Nothing But a Miracle." Watch out for her this year at the Grammy's. She's exactly the kind of artist they like to heap awards on. Her label submitted her for every major category. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgKkR2f-o2E

Ah, I forgot about Diane. I don't know if she has enough hype/buzz, though. She hasn't really done anything this year. Adele & Amy Winehouse both had a lot going for them when they were nominated and won Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best New Artist. Outside of this board I've never heard a thing about Diane.

never heard of diane either. certainly no buzz on my end. what-so-eva! if they wanna boost the ratings of all these award shows they gotta start awarding celebrities and stop with all this artsy stuff.

I don't entirely agree with that. Just because someone isn't mainstream doesn't mean they shouldn't be awarded for making great music. However, it does get irritating to watch when award after award goes to the "artsy" folks, when their music isn't even that much better than the mainstream.

While I agree that sometimes--especially with the Grammys--the "artsy" artists get noms just for being artsy, when their material isn't all that superior. But the idea of awarding celebrities for ratings REALLY irks me. It's that kind of argument that would have got The Dark Knight a nomination for Best Picture that it just didn't deserve with the caliber of movies that were out last year. Different medium, but people argued for that movie by threatening ratings (which, for the Oscars, were the highest in years without The Dark Knight...), and that shouldn't be what award shows are about. It should be about respecting and awarding talent, commercial or not.

yeah i didn't mean it exactly the way it obviously came across. it's just that like you say the grammys are a bit over the top when it comes to "celebrating" unknown artists.
we will disagree on the dark knight though. its lack of love by the academy made me ignore last year's oscars.
