Concert review: Kelly Clarkson's soaring vocals are worth the drive to Oklahoma05:59 PM CDT on Monday, September 7, 2009 By JOY TIPPING THACKERVILLE, Okla. Kelly Clarkson, the pride of Burleson and heroine of several million American Idol fans, wowed an intimate crowd of about 2,500 Sunday night at the WinStar World Casino, just across the Texas-Oklahoma border. It's an easy hour-and-15-minute drive from downtown Dallas, and it's a decent concert venue that draws a lot of big-name stars: John Legend, Melissa Etheridge, Alan Jackson and Lyle Lovett are all on the fall lineup. If you factor in the parking hassles at, say, Cowboys Stadium or Nokia Theatre, it takes just about as long to get to Thackerville as it does to get into the Dallas-area venues, and hey, the parking's free at WinStar. Too, the venue itself is impressive, with good sound and an ambience that's a major cut above the typical ballroom-meets-high-school-auditorium vibe of most casino halls. Clarkson, sporting red locks and her trademark perky-girl-rocks-out attitude, sang songs from all four of her CDs, focusing primarily on 2004's Breakout and this year's All I Ever Wanted, including the two irresistible singles from that album, "I Do Not Hook Up," written by Katy Perry, and "My Life Would Suck Without You." She wisely steered mostly clear of the gloomy My December (although she did let loose with the stridently bitter "Never Again"). There were some nice surprises, such as an acoustic, stripped-down version of "Behind These Hazel Eyes" that turned it into more of a mournful lament than the upbeat, "I'm so over you" pop version on the radio. And Clarkson proved once again that she's easily the cream of the American Idol alumni crop. If she's into it, she can pull off just about any genre of music with mature style and soaring vocals. Her swampy, bluesy rendition of "Walkin' After Midnight" had me seriously wishing she'd cut a CD of nothing but Patsy Cline covers.www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/ent/stories/DN-kelly08_0908gd.159e2b527.html -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is actually a candid shot of Kelly and her sister in the recent Self magazine that Kelly was featured in....I believe it was a photo sent to Self by Kelly herself from her cell phone.
Funny about the comment of the other girl in that pic looking like Kelly. If I am thinking the right person....that is Kate, her backup singer, and she was actually used as Kelly's double in the LWSWY video. And there have been pictures that I have seen of her and she does resemble Kelly.
Kelly would make a wonderful mom one day....from what I can see....the fact alone that she isn't ready now because she is into her own thing proves that she knows what it takes to raise children...correctly anyway.

They've added the veterans to the VH1 Divas. Melissa Etheridge, Sheryl Crow, Cindy Lauper and Martina McBride.
I'd love to hear Kelly duet with any or all of them, especially Melissa.
Kelly covered Melissa on her Breakaway Tour. I'd love to hear them sing this one together..

Kelly Clarkson meets one of her idolsBurleson's own Kelly Clarkson, the original American Idol, played a packed house at Winstar on Sunday night. Here's the official review of the show from the Dallas Morning News. But I opened my inbox last night to find an unofficial review -- from Kirtland Records' Tami Thomsen. Thomsen and Toadies lead singer Vaden Todd Lewis went to the show and ended up meeting Kelly backstage. Why is this notable? Well, for one, Kelly's mentioned Vaden and the Toadies as her favorite band in interviews every year since she competed on Idol. She says she tries to catch every Toadies show she can, that she loves their music because it's "sexy, dirty, drunk, broken. Anything about rock swagger I learned from them." So this meeting was a long time coming, and an exciting moment for both parties. Here's Thomsen's account of the experience Sunday night: Vaden and I made the trip to OK last night. Walked into the concert about 10 minutes before the show; just as we sat down "Possum Kingdom" came on, blaring through the PA. What timing! The show was great. Kelly did an amazing, bluesy version of "Walking After Midnight." ... After the show we were taken to her dressing room. She flipped when she saw Vaden. Had a blast talking with her. blog.quickdfw.com/archives/2009/09/kelly-clarkson-meets-one-of-he.html

Beginning of this video has Kelly doing the full "Friday Dance" So funny & cute. She was certainly full of moves that night. And a contrast offered by a guy who seems to be a fan of both Kelly & Britney and was at the Vermont show: www.adamreisinger.com/AdamReisinger.com/Blog/Entries/2009/9/4_Friday_Five_-_Kelly_Clarkson_Concert_Videos.htmlHaving been to three Britney Spears concerts last week, I’d gotten used to seeing a “show” rather than an actual singing performance, but last night Kelly Clarkson reminded me of the difference. At a Kelly Clarkson concert, there are no elaborate sets, no choreographed dance numbers and no frequent costume changes. Instead, Kelly’s voice -- which is still incredible -- carries the night.
The other big difference between Kelly and Britney is crowd interaction. Britney’s concerts are tightly scheduled, with almost no time given to Britney to talk to the crowd. Kelly, on the other hand, spent plenty of time talking to the crowd. She rambled at times, went way off script, and acknowledged individual people in the crowd.

Kelly was awesome on "Get Schooled." It was really interesting, and I'm glad they mentioned "Already Gone" a lot, that was good promo.

^^ Thanks for posting those video clips, since I missed it tonight. I really enjoyed that special because we as fans got a glimpse of what goes on backstage into determining a show's sound, production of songs, etc. I got a chuckle out of the humour that Kelly and Jason had going on with their production change of 'Already Gone' to sound less like 'Halo', especially during Kelly's naughty laugh about the 'Halo' comparison.

So much Kelly goodness in one day!
Glad she got to finally meet one of the people that she admires. Like the info on the Divas....Melissa/Kelly covering Janis...yeah.... The get schooled thing are great....great for Kelly, awesome for Jason, fantastic for the youth to see there is more out there than just being famous. I think it is official now for me....not only would I love to hang with Kelly for a day....I would love to hang with the whole crew and watch the ins and outs of the biz.
Glad someone else appreciates If Noone Will Listen! it is a beautiful song.
I am surprised that the little Halo comment and that GREAT, EVIL laugh of Kelly's made it in the final cut.

Well the album took a 3% increase this week to 6.771 copies (got this info from idol chatter that round up and say 7.000...but ive been basing the sales based on the last BB info we got and then their weekly increases to get the exact #)
This brings its total to close to 694K and will likely place between #80-#85 on teh album chart
**GOOD NEWS* in week 26 Thankful was at #92 (this was in october 2003 where sales were higher but as for positions this means AIEW is doing better)
In week 26 BA was at #14 with over 61000 copies (2.2+ million sold) In week 26 MD took a huge gain up to 11000 copies (732.000 sold)<--this was christmas week i belive (out of top 200)

I wish this wasn't beginning to fall on iTunes album chart. I guess everyone who wanted it at the discounted price has gotten it. Now it will be up to AG to sustain sales. Thank goodness for her promo this next week.

^ I think part of the reason for its fall is because it's no longer being advertised on the front page of iTunes. It was one of the side albums on the first week of the back to school sales, the bright colours clearly visible in the sea of albums, and the second weeks it was CLEARLY seen next to P!nk's "Funhouse", which is why it charted even higher.
Now that iTunes has updated and is no longer promoting that offer, she isn't on the front page, thus her fall.
I may not be right, but I assumed since the timing of her fall coincided with the promotion ending.
