Such an awesome performance. I hope one day, she gets the chance to rock out as hard as she did that day again. :)

anyone seen this BOY performance? Dont you just love the intro? This is actually my favorite live performance of this song. I think it's even a stronger vocal than her superb Grammy's performance.

^ I think Kelly's styling now has been a subconscious rebellion to the industry in general.

Here's an excellent performance of Walking After Midnight from Friday's show in Calgary. Even her guitar player shakes his head in awe at the awesomeness of her at the end of the song..lol. It's a beautiful thing to hear and see.

Thank you Focus for posting that most excellent performance of Walking After Midnight. This is what Kelly was meant to do - interpret songs with her most beautiful voice and soul.
And in reply to kfercat, I remember once during the Breakaway era she said when she was pressured to lose weight that she'd gain weight "just to piss them off". I don't really believe anyone would gain weight just to piss someone off but you might be on to something when you say she might have a subconscious rebellion to the industry. Her weight and clothing choices, her "image" if you will, is one of the few things she can control in her professional life. She got way more than she bargained for when she won American Idol. Everyone that's auditioned since has understood the deal. She didn't. I believe her when she says she doesn't want to be the biggest pop star, she just wants to sing and create music. I hope she can remain undamaged while she makes two more albums for RCA. She seems strong, confident and happy on the outside but I sometimes wonder when she writes some of the lyrics she does, most recently those to I'm Not the Only One:
And I keep all my hopes from clouding my eyes Keep my distance, my chin up, and talk with a smile 'Cause I've got to believe there's more than barely breathing I'm not the only heart beating There's nothing worse than just feeling The weight of walking alone Tell me I'm not the only one
Kelly has sacrificed a great deal in the way of a personal life when she unwittingly became a part of the mainstream music industry. I think of Cyndi Lauper recounting her time in the spotlight, how during the days she was surrounded by lots of people and things to do but at the end of the day, she went home alone. I'm most interested to see Kelly on the other side of her RCA contract and I don't care what she wears or how much she weighs as long as she is happy and singing songs that I can hear.

I wonder how old she'll be once she can leave RCA. She just needs to record another My December with a few Max Martin/Dr. Luke/Claude Kelly/Ryan Tedder songs and she just write the rest.

She's 27 now, interestingly the same age as Janice Joplin when she gave up the ghost. It's taken around 8 years to make and promote 4 albums, so maybe another 4 years for 2 more albums. Kelly may be in her early 30's when she can choose to stay on her own terms or walkaway from RCA. That is unless RCA decides they are tired of trying to change her and let the last album be a greatest hits album or a Christmas album, which I would absolutely love. Or RCA could play hardball and string her along even longer than four years. I'm sure they'll do whatever makes them the most money without regard to what's best for Kelly.

Kelly's DJ tweeted this. Hopefully they'll start rehearsing soon. Heading out to a day full of AMA's! 14 minutes ago from TweetDeck twitter.com/djform7I'm so excited. Even if she does the tour version, I'm still happy to see her there and performing.

Wow. Flashback haha. But seriously, I think this proves almost as much as anything how phenomenal Kelly's voice is. There is little soulful or super challenging about MLWSWY, and Kelly even has some autotune on her track, but Jesus--this sounds like those karaoke demo singers in comparison. Kelly's vocals made this song. There really IS no comparison, I think. And I like plenty of other Glee songs, but this clip just sounds very, very weak. This will probably be written off as me being a stan, but that chorus is no good. Verses sound much stronger.

Yeah, I too am severely disappointed with the clip. I expected a much sleeker production I guess. :(

I just read a little further. Seriously, some people need to let Kelly be. Kelly is a 27 year adult who can make her own decisions. If she is so depressed as some of you appear to think, she's got a nice home to go to in Texas. She doesn't have to be in the limelight.
I'm not on the Kelly bandwagon that much but at least I give her credit for being able to manage her own career. I get a kick out of hearing the same argument about how much a rebel she is. OMG gosh, she likes to perform without shoes on and says what she wants to. News alert...most artists say what they want. I saw Lady Gaga on VH1 this morning and she made it clear that SHE calls all the shots in her career. This is coming from a newbie. If Kelly can't call most of the shots in her career by now, she should just call it a day. Some of you make her out to be a temid little mouse that has to go along with all the decisions that the big bad music industry makes for her. So to get back at them she puts on weight and dresses poorly. LOL. I don't buy that at all.
One bit of information I did find interesting is that Kelly has 2 more albums with RCA. If that's right, she should be totally free of the label when she hits her 30s. She can quit making pop music then.
I've been reading on these boards for years and there seems to be a general pattern of the AI fans blaming their artists label for most of their failures. AI fanbases seem to really give a great deal of talk to the relationship between the artist and their label/management. Most fanbases don't give a hoot especially with someone like Kelly who has been around for 7 years now.
I guess it's the labels fault that even with 3 HUGE pop hits that the album sales in the US haven't even hit 800,000 yet. The label has done it's part to get the songs heard. Maybe they didn't release the songs that some fans wanted but I'm sure they didn't say let's release the singles that will sell the least. I think it's more of a case that the songs were more airplay hits than actual huge hits that made an impact on the listener. Already Gone hasn't really done more than stablizer her album sales. The song certainly hasn't propelled the album back up the charts. She's not been in the Australia top 50 for a long time either so it's just not the US.
I think Kelly's sales are respectable in this climate but I would say that I would have thought that three big pop hits from an "it" artist would have produced more in albums sales and single sales.

I don't think she's rebelling anything. She's just doing what she feels like doing and it just so happens to go against a lot of things pop culture is about.

I also saw the Gaga thing this morning on VH1. She made it very clear that she is in full control of her career and I thought that was really cool. Then again, her contract is probably different from Kelly's. She was signed because a label wanted her, not because America voted her to be in the limelight.

Kelly has to have some control of her career by now. The other idols appear to have control of their careers to some extent, so she should too. The label isn't the bad guy here. I think it's just that Kelly wants to create a record that she is fully invested in without compromise and that rarely happens with major labels. I think after BA they probably would have let her write on her entire record if she collaborated with some hitmakers. She could have avoided this entire mess and would be a superstar still. Unfortunately compromise is the name of the game here.

I think it's more about conflicted interested in this situation. Perhaps Kelly wants to go in such a complete opposite direction of her label that compromising is even a bigger deal than it would be with other artist. I'm sure she has a lot more creative control than it seems. I think this particular album, however, was a compromise so that she can have My December which I'm sure she was fully aware of when she/they decided to release MD.
That's just my guess though.
I remember hearing something about Kelly just kinda giving up on what she wants as a single since the label isn't listening to her. It's been sitting in the back of my mind and I can't remember if she actually said that or not. Can someone confirm that?

Yes but really did they think she was going to just fully give in to their demands. I mean honestly she let them reap the benefits from Thankful AND Breakaway. They couldn't even give her ONE album without compromise. How pathetic. It's sad how money-hungry a lot of people are. Sure you do need a good amount of money to survive but with the money from the previous two albums and all the other clients on the label they were certainly not going to go a day without the bare necessities. ^ Kind of went a little off base there but really I don't blame the label. It's just the all around climate of music, entertainment, media, and taste. I don't know why people haven't really let AIEW sink in because it's a pretty solid pop album. Guess people want dance infused meaningless songs.

I couldn't stop laughing when I saw sparkles. I thought it was the infamous sparkly top from IDNHU.
But it's suppose to be a black dress with rhinestones.
