I could have seen this better as a first single and make "Know Your Enemy" third instead, but I don't think it's an absolute terrible choice. I would have rather had "Last of the American Girls," "Murder City," or "The Static Age" though.

2nd best on the record behind "East Jesus Nowhere", although it seems more suitable to be the final single from the record. It may be, still. Which would be highly disappointing.

I think this is a pretty good choice, but I think Peacemaker would have been a more interesting choice, pr EJN if they wanted to go for the sure hit.

IMO, Before the Lobotomy, Peacemaker, East Jesus Nowhere and Murder City all would've been far better choices than this. If I had my way, it would've gone...
1st single - East Jesus Nowhere
2nd single - Restless Heart Syndrome
3rd single - Peacemaker, Last of the American Girls to AAA/HAC
4th single - Before the Lobotomy
5th single - Murder City

"Restless Heart Syndrome" is not a single-type song, and honestly I don't think "Murder City" fits that bill either.

The fact that we all have wildly varying opinions regarding which tracks would make the more effective or less effective singles only reinforces the reality of how this album era has been both a blessing and a curse for Green Day.
This era has been a blessing in that they've produced an excellent, quality record where all of the album's tracks seemingly mean something to someone, but also a curse in that there's no obvious singles and, thus, a sharp commercial decline this era from the previous era was inevitable as well.

I totally agree with LispingHibiscus. 21st Century Breakdown
is a great record and most of the songs would work well as singles, as we can see by so many different opinions about the chosen singles, here.
Well, I wanted "!Viva La Gloria!". It's my favorite song on the whole album.
My top 5 choices for the third single:
1. ¡Viva la Gloria!
2. Horseshoes And Handgrenades
3. East Jesus Nowhere
4. 21st Century Breakdown
5. See The Light
I think the third has to be an up-tempo song, conidering the second was a ballad. If it really is "21st Century Breakdown", it should do well. Something like top 5 on Alternative and top 20 on Active seems possible.
