The one thing that always puts me off is the sequencing. It seems so odd how the last three actual songs are all ballads. That's kind of odd. Balance would have helped on my part.
Great album, though.

I heard "Come Back To Me" last evening while picking up groceries at Publix. Beautiful. YES, corny as it is, it is a touching song. Janet is not all that great vocally, but there's just this sincerity in her voice that draws you to her. I recently got more into 'Love Will Never Do'. I love it. Same. Some great s**t.

^ I actually was never really a big fan of 'Love Will Never Do' until the video was released. Damn!

Since the 25th anniversary of Control is coming up, I'll do another tribute to that album like I did with RN1814 on the last page with all the charts, sales, etc. "Lonely" is the best ballad on the album, and in my opinion quite possibly Janet's best ballad. LOVE IT! And I'll cosign you on that in red ink.

7 top 5's. Even though she used payola, that record is almost, well, damn near impossible to do again, or even trump. Fave tracks from this album: Miss You Much Rhythm Nation Come Back To Me Love Will Never Do (Without You) Don't think an album this good required payola, but OK. LOL.

'Come Back To Me' is my favorite Janet song and there's nothing "corny" about it.

It amazes me that THIS album isn't Diamond certified.

My favourite Janet album. did I lie? NO! I literally love every song on this album (okay, maybe not Livin' In A World) and this era is truly flawless. I wish I'd been alive to see it. :'( I agree that Lonely is one of Janet's greatest ballads, arguably her best ever — for me it's either that or Come Back To Me. My song ranking: 01. Love Will Never Do (Without You) 02. Miss You Much 03. Alright 03. Come Back To Me 03. Lonely 06. Escapade 06. Rhythm Nation 08. Black Cat 09. Someday Is Tonight 10. The Knowledge 10. State Of The World 12. Livin' In A World (They Didn't Make) Yes, JAL!

Loved Rhythm Nation. Not just the album but the whole era: the music videos, the tour (still the biggest debut tour), the look, etc.

LOL @ Janhova's Witness and the reference to Janet's JAL commercials.

Why does everyone hate Livin' In A World? :'(
Love Will Never Do (Without You) is definitely the album highlight, though. It's the song that ultimately drew me to the album. Flawless.

^ I don't hate 'Livin' in a World', it's just the weakest of the album tracks for me. It's got a nice message, though.

With tracks like "Love Will Never Do", "Miss You Much", "Come Back to Me", it's got to be her strongest album. Although I generally reach for The Velvet Rope more frequently cause I prefer the mood and warmth of that album.

Forgot to mention album tracks "Lonely" and "Someday is Tonight" - lovely songs.
Not a big fan of "Escapade" or "Livin' in a World (They Didn't Make)" though.

It's hard to believe that this album spent only 4 weeks at #1.
This album was great in a number of ways. You have dance songs, rockers and some smooth R&B ... and 7 top 5 hits (plus an additional airplay top 5). The socio themes are pretty well laid out as well.

Consistently makes every ranking of "GOAT" Albums and deserves to be. For sake of a better term, Janet "turned it" with RN1814. Between Control, this, Janet. and TVR, she really had a string of albums that were amazing

"Livin' In a World (They Didn't Make)" is hard for me to listen to with the gunshots and screaming children at the end, but I think it helps hit the message home.

I posted this in Janet's discussion thread, but I'll say it here too.
The last major elementary school shooting happened in January 1989, so it probably inspiried Jan to write and record it.
