"The Ways Of The Wind" - P.M. Dawn, "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" - The
Proclaimers, "Creep" - Radiohead
Notes: * Mariah Carey's "Dreamlover" holds onto #1 for the fifth consecutive
week on the Radio & Records Top 40. Janet Jackson remains at #2
for the fourth straight week with her current single off the
_janet_ album, "If". SWV's follow-up to their former #1 song, "Weak",
remains stuck at #3, as "Right Here (Human Nature)" holds for a
second week. Toni Braxton breaks into the Top 5 for the first time
in her career, as "Another Sad Love Song" moves from #7 to #4,
and Billy Joel's title track from his new album, "The River Of
Dreams", rounds out the Top 5.
* For the third straight week, the top 4 positions are held by
female acts. Madonna's "Rain" dropped from #4 to #8, but was
replaced by Toni Braxton's "Another Sad Love Song".
* The top mover this week is En Vogue's "Runaway Train", which
climbs seven notches from #19 to #12. It seems likely to enter
the Top 10 next week. Other notable moves go to last week's
Top Mover, Haddaway's "What Is Love" (#28 to #21), and last
week's Top Debut, Blind Melon's "No Rain" (#31 to #24).
* Aerosmith captures their eighth Top 10 single, as "Cryin'"
cracks in at #10. Likely to move into the Top 10 next week
include Inner Circle's "Sweat (A La La La La Long)" (#11),
En Vogue's hot "Runaway Love" (#12), and Def Leppard's "Two
Steps Behind" (#13), from the soundtrack of the film _Last Action
Hero_.
* Soul Asylum continues to slowly ease its way down the charts.
After peaking some time ago, it dips this week only three spots,
from #17 to #20.
* After a big debut, Rick Astley's "Hopelessly" has lost considerable
momentum. Debuting at #28, it has only moved up six spots to #22
in the following two weeks.
* Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince's "Boom! Shake The Room" does not
seem likely to top the charts in North America, as it has already
done in Britain. Their fourth Top 40 single is only at #28 after
three weeks on the chart, which may be a result of radio's
displeasure of their tougher sound.
* Debuts this week include R.E.M.'s "Everybody Hurts", Robin S.'s
second Top 40 single "Love For Love", Prince's "Pink Cashmere",
and Meatloaf's "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)".
The top debut this week is John Mellencamp's 19th Top 40 single,
"Human Wheels", which enters at #34.
