I have updated Blake Shelton's #1s totals to twenty with Sangria. Congratulations, Blake! Now, let us analyze his section of the list:
20. Blake Shelton-20-2001-2015 21. Garth Brooks-19-1989-2007-HOF-AOD (1990s)(had the most #1s during the 1990s with 17) 22. Brad Paisley-19-1999-2015
For the first time, Shelton now has more #1s than Garth Brooks and Brad Paisley. He has now kicked Brooks out of the top twenty. I sense a civil war between the two Okies. Furthermore, ALL the top twenty artists now have at least 20 #1s to their credit. If your favorite is not in the top twenty, they now need 21 chart toppers to get there.

I have updated Kenny Chesney's #1s totals to 26 with Save It For A Rainy Day. Congratulations, Kenny!
Now, for some analysis. Here is the updated top ten list:
1. GEORGE STRAIT-44-1982-2009-HOF-AOD (2000s)(has the most #1s between 2006-present)(the #1 artist of the 1990s)(had the most #1s during the 1990s with 17) 2. Conway Twitty-40-1968-1986-HOF (had the most #1s between 1980-2006)(the #1 artist of the 1970s)(had the most #1s during the 1970s with 25) 3. Merle Haggard-38-1967-1988-HOF 4. Ronnie Milsap-35-1974-1989-HOF 5. Alabama-33-1980-2011-HOF-AOD (1980s)(had the most #1s during the 1980s with 26) 6. Charley Pride-29-1969-1983-HOF 7. Eddy Arnold-28-1947-1968-HOF (had the most #1s between 1948-1980)(the #1 artist of the 1940s)(had the most #1s during the 1940s with 11) 8. Alan Jackson-26-1991-2010 9. Tim McGraw-26-1994-2014 10. Kenny Chesney-26-1997-2015 (the #1 artist of the 2000s)
If you noticed, there are NO females in the top ten (nine solo males and an all-male group). Chesney has now kicked Dolly Parton out of the top ten like Tim McGraw kicked Reba McEntire out of the top ten earlier this year. If they (or any of your favorites) want into the top ten, they now need 27 #1s to do so.

I have updated Luke Bryan's #1s totals to thirteen with Strip It Down. Congratulations, Luke! Now, let us analyze his area of the list:
39. Webb Pierce-13-1952-1957-HOF (the #1 artist of the 1950s)(had the most #1s during the 1950s with 13) 40. Clint Black-13-1989-1999 41. Carrie Underwood-13-2006-2012 42. Dierks Bentley-13-2003-2015 43. Luke Bryan-13-2010-2015 44. Rascal Flatts-12-2002-2012
Bryan now has more chart toppers than Rascal Flatts for the first time. When Bryan get his next #1, it'll be his fourteenth chart topping hit. I hope Carrie Underwood does not falter and gets to the top with Smoke Break. She will re-enter the top 40 at #39. If she does not get to the top and he does with his next single, Bryan will have more #1s than Webb Pierce, Clint Black, Underwood, and Dierks Bentley, his labelmate.

Did you see the date of the original post? I didn't think at the time Die A Happy Man would spend six weeks at the #1 spot. Furthermore, I crowned Die A Happy Man as Thomas Rhett's biggest hit (when it spent its fourth week at the top) in my column: 1. RHETT'S BIGGEST: Thomas Rhett has his biggest hit this week with Die A Happy Man. It rules for a fourth week at the top becoming his longest reign. It beats his previous biggest hit, It Goes Like This. That was his first chart topper from 2013 and it stayed at #1 for three weeks. Furthermore, this is Valory's second four week #1 following Consider Me Gone by Reba McEntire. That became her biggest hit when it ruled the country chart for the first four weeks of 2010. If Rhett manages a fifth week at the top, it will be the first five week #1 in six years. Lady Antebellum's biggest hit, Need You Now held sway for the last five weeks of 2009.

I understand that this thread is for the Country Airplay #1's but just have a logical question. What does everyone consider to be an actual #1 single? Do you consider the Airplay or the the Hot Country Songs chart to be the actual #1? I'm saying the Airplay should be the logical #1 song and do away with the Hot Country Songs chart and even the Hot 100 since they nor have a Hot 100 Airplay chart (Radio Songs). The Hot Country Songs and Hot 100 are just showing what single is selling the best if I'm correct or do they calculate airplay as well?

The Hot Country Songs and Hot 100 are just showing what single is selling the best if I'm correct or do they calculate airplay as well? A lot of people in this forum enjoy watching the charts on a daily and weekly basis and speculating what will happen, and since airplay is the easiest to 'track', most of us only pay attention to the Billboard Country Airplay chart and/or the Mediabase chart. The Hot Country Songs and Hot 100 charts are points-based charts. For those charts, Billboard assigns weights to all-genre airplay, sales, and streaming, and then adds it all together. I'm not sure what the ratio is (it could be 50% airplay, 25% sales, and 25% streaming, or something like 33% of each). There are ways to track sales trends and streaming trends, but it's a lot easier to only follow airplay trends. A #1 on Billboard Country Airplay is a #1 on Billboard Country Airplay. A #1 on Mediabase is a #1 on Mediabase. A #1 on Billboard Hot Country Songs is a #1 on Billboard Hot Country Songs. Record labels and artists will take a #1 on any chart that they can get, and the more charts they can get to #1 on, the better.

I think the best representation of what's popular in country music is Country Airplay. Country Airplay eliminates whatever crossover appeal stems from sales, airplay and streams, and that's not a bad thing...
There are some songs that have very successful due to crossing the line. Take Florida Georgia Line's "Cruise" as an example. This song spent like 24 weeks at #1 on Hot Country Songs and 2 weeks at #1 on Country Airplay. Normally, pure country isn't known for its big sellers unless it's countrypolitan or country pop, and that's what you got here.
"Cruise" is definitely one of the most popular country-crossover songs, but it's performance against other country songs is just average...

I would definitely consider a #1 just the Billboard Country Airplay chart for these purposes. I think that's always been the case on the board.

Sorry to be off topic but I need help. I need to know the list of all Tim McGraw songs that reached # 1 in the country ONLY MediaBase single chart and not in both charts (BB and MB). I managed to retrieve only "Southern Girl" in november 2013. Thanks for the help.

What is considered a full fledged duet? I consider one to be two artists who take the lead vocals of the song at least one time in a song. For instance "Think of You" by Chris Young & Cassadee Pope. I mean I know I've mentioned this before but I know you don't count "Bring On The Rain" by Jo Dee Messina as a #1 hit for Tim McGraw. Do you count "Buy Me A Rose" by Kenny Rogers as a #1 for Billy Dean or Alison Krauss since it featured them? If "Diamond Rings & Old Barstools" would've went #1 would Catherine Dunn had a #1 hit?

At the end of the day, what really matters is who gets credit on the charts: Tim McGraw got credit for BOTR when it was charting (i.e. it was listed as being Jo Dee Messina featuring Tim McGraw), and Catherine Dunn was credited for DR&OB. It really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, because if the featured artist is listed on the charts while a song is out there, then they get credit. Simple as that.

Then Keith Urban should get a #1 for Highway Don't Care. I don't hear a peep from him on the record, so I should give him a 'free' #1. Right?
