www.honeymag.com/message/story/view.castle?g=679901&m=7714958Now, you have your new album.Yes, I’m working on it now. I’m assuming you’re going in a new direction or at least evolving with your sound.I am definitely evolving. The interesting thing about my record is that I did it so long ago. I started writing and experimenting with that sound when I moved to Idaho. It took a few years before it actually came out. By that time I still loved it. It was definitely a concept record. I was really inspired by the ’60s and ’70s sound, mixed with electronic sounds and how to mash those together. With this record I am experimenting more with a really interesting mix of music. My describing it probably sounds crazy but I’m kind of working with tribal, Native American drums and mashing them with weird ’80s and blues. I have been exposed to so many different great forms of music. It’s definitely going to be an experimental album. I’m working with so many great people on this record, so many different bands and musicians. Can you name a few of them?I’ve been working with Kevin Barnes from of Montreal, an incredible band. I’m about six songs in and maybe four of them will make it. I’m still establishing the sound, but what I’m really focusing on is doing everything independently. I’ve been A&R-ing the project and staying on top of the budgets. I’ve been producing myself, and learning the backside of making the record financially because I didn’t do as much of that the last record. I really want to be in a place where I feel no pressure with my record sales. I really just want to have the experimental space to make a record that if 30,000 people like it, I’ll feel really proud — even more than the last one. There are so many adventurous artists — a good friend of mine, Janelle Monae, who’s incredible, and Santigold and some of the more popular indie artists who are opening up the doors to people’s ears. I feel good about it. I hope that people are able to take this journey with me because it is a lot different than the last record.

"Would've Been the One" fell a little down the Dance chart this week. I wish it could've been her fourth consecutive #1 dance hit.

This girl's got real talent. Fantastic songwriter & she can really perform. Unfortunately, she's got the "Beyonce's little sister" stigma, but I think she'll be coming in to her own...

She just needs a mercy/rehab hit . Something in that Genre and that Beyonce's little sister stigma will help her. Just a hit needed.

I'm surprised that Solange is just now announcing this. She's been off the Interscope website for over a month. I thought she would have at least waited until she had a new deal in place before making any announcements.
The original rumors had Solange dropped from Geffen/Interscope since April.

Statement from Music World Entertainment: "Solange felt it necessary to go with a smaller, independent label that focuses more on the alternative genre, one that reflects her music style and artistry. Solange is working on a new album and the label will be announced shortly. The relationship with Interscope is excellent and the current album, 'Sol-Angel and the Hadley Street Dreams' is still being worked through the Music World/ Interscope joint venture with consistent weekly sales." www.bvbuzz.com/2009/10/30/solange-no-longer-signed/

She should've been independent to begin with. Major labels would have no clue how to properly market her and they wouldn't put all that much effort into figuring it out.

When did that second album come out? Unless she had one before that, that I wasn't aware of?

There's talk of "F uck The Industry (Signed Sincerely)" will have a club release as several remixes were done. When did that second album come out? Unless she had one before that, that I wasn't aware of? Her first album Solo Star came out in late 2002/early 2003. Her second one Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams in August of 2008.

I watched the video for the original song and I totally see why Solange covered it. If she had her own version of DC3, it would be the Dirty Projectors.

www.examiner.com/x-6689-Houston-Page-One-Examiner~y2009m11d23-Solange-Knowles-mixes-it-up-in-HoustonSolange Knowles mixes it up in HoustonNovember 23 Houston Page One Examiner Cathryn Marie Inspiring Mother - CHECK! Talented Artist - CHECK! Beautiful Model - CHECK! Crafty DJ - CHECK! "That Solange Knowles is a renaissance woman". Indeed she is! Making her Houston debut as a mixer on the "one's and two's", Houston native, Solange Knowles and friends organized an event hosted and DJ'd by the talented songstress; "A Party". A lot of creativity went into the planning of the event. The password entry only, polaroid picture snapping, disco themed party was a success. Upon entry of The Flat, party goers were greeted by a young lady, dressed in the disco theme requesting the password; "rock.paper.scissors" - paper covered my rock. Once entering the intimate club, drinks were being poured, laughs were shared, hugs were traded, dancing filled the room - did I mention that drinks were being poured? And most importantly, GOOD music was being mixed. She took time out of her hip-hop/alternative/pop/r and b/soul mixing and went around snapping pictures of attendee's while socializing and dancing some (djing duties were taken over by producer Etrez of the Bama Boyz) If you follow Solange on twitter, you are aware of the new hobby she picked up about two months ago during one of her New York visits. Getting rave reviews and cheers following has motivated her new passion. Her taking this on has been a shock to many, even her close pal, ?uest Love of The Roots made joke about her DJing: QuestLove: @solangeknowles haaaaaaaaaaaaaa! you really tryna come at my neck w/ this dj ish huh? SolangeKnowles: @questlove ha! yep. one day ill be good enough to DJ your family reunion :)) She recently addressed the critics and nay-sayers: "This Is actually REALLY fun! Which is what new found passions should feel like. I don't care if folk think I'm another "artist turned DJ"...I'm working really hard at it, respecting the art form and having f***ing FUN!." Despite the party being rudely labeled by the non attendee, Will, manager of Houston artist and personal friend of Solange, DeAndre Wright (who was in attendance), as a "#weirdofest" on twitter, (@thatsuperstar man i know theres a lot of weirdos seeing how shes a weirdo now ... @sincerelyola lol you went to that #weirdofest), the event was filled with people who wanted to share the unique experience and show support to the Houston R & B native. Also in attendance was Omarion, formally of B2K and Jas Prince. Honorable mentions of the night: IB3, Imani Rose, J Will, J Wells, Eddie, Joseph, Terrence, The Nice Guys and Mr 1of1. "Thanks to everyone who came out to the flat tonight. You were Perfection. We rocked it tonight & WILL be rocking again...Soon & Very soon" - Solange It was one heck of a fun night!

From Solange's Twitter:
November 24
i've never heard ANY of Adam Lamberts music. Never watched American Idol, but loving the series of tweets about him this week. Rock on Adam!
and womp womp for whoever canceled his (adam lambart) show. scaredy cats.
art is art. pop is pop. raunchy or clean. good is bad, bad is good, bad is bad, good is good.its all about what YOU like.no wrongs no rights.
ive never heard this Adam guys music, just saw everyone talking about his kiss and cock shove. watched the clip.......
......agreed that women in music do "raunchy" all the time. they sing about kissing girls, and kids bop makes kid version.
they wear tissue paper as clothing, pasties over nipples, ect. let the man kiss who he wants. never heard his music. so this isnt personal.
just "RIGHTS FOR GAYS.....Oh yeah" Im over it. If britney and madonna can kiss and not have shows canceled so should adam and whoever else!
let the kids be freeeeeeeeee. arggghhhhh. pissing me off actually.
Some of you guys are missing the point. I am personally not a fan of Madonna, Britney, or Adam...(although i did bump im a slave for u like
a year straight ) i just want free rights for ALL. I get sick of the discriminating. Race, Sex and Demographic discriminating.
We are ALL, WAY too judgmental and hypocritical and need to work on it (Including MYSELF). Ps: Healthy debates are good:) i love u all!!!
TRUE STORY: I wanted to perform on an awards show that i was very blessed to be apart of & re-create the sparkly war tank in the "i decided"
video. I wanted my band 2 perform on a huge sparkly hot pink war tank (if u dont understand the irony of a glitter war tank pls unfollow me)
This was during election time....& at the end i wanted huge Obama painting to come down and sing last line "i decided your the him for me"
I was told, i couldn't do it. and if i did they would cut me out.
i know how this works and i know a fair share of network heads are Republicans. I dont care if i get in trouble now, but then, i was on a
major label, and had to play a little nice. Artist are ALWAYS ASKED TO PLAY NICE! WE ARE NOT POLITICIANS WE ARE FUCKING ARTIST!
Why should we have to play nice? Were not here to spread the gospel of family values although i applaud and respect the ones that do.
WE ARE HERE TO EXPRESS OURSELVES HOWEVER WE CHOOSE TO DO SO & if you dont like it, thats why there are Soooooo many of us.
You have the freedom to like who you like, and what they represent and what and how they express themselves.
Personally, I grew up respecting The Prince's, The Michaels, The Graces, The Bjorks, The Marvins. They ALL represented something different
BUT they All were alike in that THEY STOOD UP FOR WHAT THEY BELIEVED IN AND EXPRESSED THAT!
Saddest and greatest thing was at MTV EUROPE awards months later, the wonderful Estelle & Soooo many other artist publicly celebrated Obama
ok. now im going practice grabbing my nuts in the mirror :) good day folks! in the words of ren and stimpy "happy happy joy joy"

Solange — little sister of Beyoncé — heard it, pried away some of the abstract kudzu, added a sample of "Bumpy's Lament" by Soul Mann & the Brothers, and presto! A song that's both an indie hit and the best R&B jam of the year.
