I was feeling in a meditative mood tonight, so I lit some candles, made some tea, and just sat and listened to this album. Very sublime.

Yeah, this is definitely a good album for exorcising the demons from your body, spirit, and mind.

Bought the physical release of the album on the 18th, uploaded it to iTunes and onto my phone and then ran off to my place in the White Mountains. I knew I wouldn't be back in NYC til the weekend after Thanksgiving so I wanted to have it on my phone and listened to it sporadically during my vacation. It's definitely the kind of album to vibe to from start to finish. I do find highlights (Don't Touch My Hair, Junie, Weary, Mad, Where Do We Go, Don't Wish Me Well (those drums and harmonies...), and Cranes In The Sky instantly come to mind), but it's such a cohesive, well-conceived, and well-executed body of work. The Knowles sisters are owning s**t, for real. Their parents must be really proud.

Solange has been nominated for a Grammy at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards for "Best R&B Performance" for "Cranes In The Sky" from her album, "A Seat At The Table."
This is her FIRST Grammy nomination! :)

She deserved an album nomination in the R&B field.

She really got shafted. She has a good shot in her category though. So there's that I guess.
I wanna see what she submitted.

I think she would've secured an album nom had she submitted to R&B.

I think she would've secured an album nom had she submitted to R&B. This + I think she should have put all her eggs in CITS's basket for r&b song, ROTY, and SOTY. That's been the de facto 'single' of the album thus far and I think that's where her best chances of getting votes were.

How many times have siblings been nominated at the Grammy's for work that they didn't do together?

How many times have siblings been nominated at the Grammy's for work that they didn't do together? Do you mean in the same year, or just at all? Janet and Michael received nominations in the same year on four different occasions (1988, 1990, 1993, and 2002). 1990 was the year they both won, even - the video categories fittingly enough (Janet won best long-form music video for Rhythm Nation 1814, and Michael won best short-form video for Leave Me Alone). Jermaine Jackson got an r&b performance nomination of his own in 1981. Other than them I can't think of any sibling musicians who have been nominated for separate work. El DeBarge has been Grammy nominated both solo and with his family DeBarge; same with Gerald Levert/Levert. But I suppose that doesn't really count since none of their other siblings got nominated for something outside of their respective groups.

I know Loretta Lynn and Crystal Gayle were nominated in country categories at the same time numerous times in the 1970's. I don't think they ever went head to head in a specific category, but they had noms in the same year in separate categories.
Bebe and Cece Winans. They've been nominated together and for individual solo awards all in the same year. Not to mention, they've been nominated directly against other family members (including siblings) in the Winans family too. I think that whole damn family sings. Marvin and Bebe went up against each other in 89 for instance.
Toni Braxton and Tamar came really close. Tamar was nominated in 2014 and 2016. Toni won in 2015.
Not siblings, but Whitney Houston and Cissy Houston have been nominated in the same year as well. And "That's What Friends Are For" and "The Greatest Love Of All" went up against each other in Record of the Year in 1987. Dionne Warwick and Whitney Houston are cousins.

Goodness, her voice is so lovely and that performance was amazing. She's such her own artist and I love it. There are flavors of Badu, Monae, and Aaliyah in her aesthetic, but it's all ancillary to something that is uniquely her own.
