ooh I didn't know it had an adds date! :o
Thanks Josh
That means it should hit radio and the internet even earlier than that, since most songs do come out well in advance of their proper adds date.
I'm hoping they will hit the internet one day next week!
Or is that too soon, for an album dropping in September?
I went to All Access last night to see if there was an adds date for his new single but nothing was up. I had a feeling there would be Nelly news this week, and I was right.
His two new albums have been pushed back to September 14th, however.
The first singles are "Flap Your Wings" produced by the Neptunes, and "My Place" featuring Jaheim, which covers a 1979 Teddy Pendergrass classic.
He is going to shoot the video to both songs next week in LA.
Doesn't June 22 seem too early to go for adds when the album isn't being released until September 14th?
I'm not complaining, because I want to hear this song badly, but it does seem a bit too soon. In any event, I'm not complaining.
The title does bear a striking resemblance to "Shake Ya Tailfeather", and the Neptunes produced it, so I'm guess it could be a combo of SYT and "Hot in Herre".
The title is VERY corny, I must say. Flap Your Wingers? lol
I believe this could very well be the song of the summer this year.

Ooh wow thanks for the news! Neptunes and Jaheim on two different tracks! Now I'm excited. "My Place" has to sample "Come Go With Me". I'm looking forward to these.

No problem! I'm soo excited about this new era! Thank YOU so much for the news on the adds date, because I was worrying that maybe we wouldn't hear these new singles until maybe July. Any word on 'My Place' going for adds?

Oh and yes, "My Place" featuring Jaheim does sample "Come Go With Me".
Here is the full article from MTV:
Nelly fans will have to wait a little longer for the two albums he's releasing simultaneously this year, but for now the rapper can at least offer up names for the discs, and soon he'll drop a first single from each.
Sweat will be the title of the grittier of the two discs, which is said to have songs for the clubs, the bedroom and the streets a la "Hot in Herre" and "Air Force Ones." And since the last time Nelly really busted out big-time was with P. Diddy and Murphy Lee on "Shake Ya Tailfeather," it's only right that he has a new set of instructions for his flock. Sweat's first single is called "Flap Your Wings" and features the production handiwork of the Neptunes.
Nelly's second LP in the double-dose offering has been christened Suit, and it's described as the more melodic of the discs, somewhere in the vein of songs like "Pimp Juice." Nelly has his pimp juices flowing on the lead cut from the album, a track called "My Place." The song is a hip-hop take on Teddy Pendergrass' 1979 baby-making ditty "Come Go With Me." Fittingly, Jaheim, who's drawn comparisons to Pendergrass, will be singing, "Come on and go with me, come on over to my place."
Nelly will shoot videos for both singles in the next couple of weeks. Sweat and Suit, now due September 14, had originally been slated for August 17 (see "Nelly To Pull A Guns N' Roses This Summer, With Mase In Tow").

I hope "My Place" isn't just a video single. It's too bad Jaheim got stuck in a video only single for Cam'Ron's "Lord You Know". It sounds like it could be hot so I'd love to see it released. I'm sure if it's hot he could dominate radio just like Usher.

lol...I was gonna say
Cam'ron's single never went for adds? That's a shame. I love Jaheim's hook on that track, it's the only reason to listen to the song

Billboard said that Cam'Ron has had like 5 different songs from "Purple Haze" sent to radio without ever shipping any out officially with an adds date. That's kind of weird.

Yea...it is strange
His album has been delayed a thousand times, I don't know why.
Back to Nelly, do you think it's too early, for a single to go for adds in late June, and the album drops in mid September?

I think he should send "Flap Ya Wings" to radio in June and then send "My Place" to radio in August. Urban radio will be more open to a second single that soon after even if "Flap Ya Wings" is still huge as long as they're not released the same month.

Urban radio will be more open to a second single that soon after even if "Flap Ya Wings" is still huge as long as they're not released the same month. That's a good point. Maybe that is the plan, to release the club friendly, summer anthem type of single early, and then as people may 'tire' of it as the album date draws nearer, release the slower "My Place" (a la Dilemma) as the "second" single, weeks before the albums are released. Thats a good theory, I actually haven't thought of that, but it's possible that's what they are doing. Saving the other single for closer to when the albums are actually released. You don't think people will be tired of "Flap" by August and be like, 'when is this album coming out already?"

Very few people actually like how much radio overplays music and they'll be more than willing to get a second single by August especially if "Flap Ya Wings" is a major out of the box smash. ...and if it is, radio will be hungry for a second single so they'll add it even that soon after.

So you think the strategy/timeline is fine? With a single going for adds on June 22 even though the album isn't released until September? Maybe that's why there is no adds date for My Place, because it will go for adds some time in August, after 'Flap' has wore out its welcome at radio. But doesn't that pose a problem, since they are two separate albums, the album that 'Flap' is on...will it be too long since Flap, and people will be like, oh no I don't want this album anymore. Isn't it better to have two singles at the same time, closer to the album release? Or is this strategy of staggering the singles wiser?

It would be fine if it was a double album, but with two separate albums, maybe people will ignore one in favour of the one that has the "hot new single" on it?

I think not having this as a double album is stupid on his part honestly. I'm sure the "party" album will sell better either way.

It debuted tonight at 8. It's like Hot in Herre, only not as catchy.

Here is the link to the song: mp.aol.com/dalaillama/audio.uvox.adp?mxid=1137996I personally like it, I think the Neptunes once again re-created their sound, it doesn't sound like anything they've done in the past. It's a bit more 'street' than the immediately pop-radio, sing-songy nursery rhyme friendliness of Hot in Herre or Dilemma, but the hook is still quite catchy. It's almost on some African tribal beat or something, that's the vibe I get. I think the song is definitely a grower, at first you will most likely say to yourself...WTF is this? but I know the majority of people here will say they hate it.

All i can say is GEAT READY because this song is gonna BLOW UP.
The Neptunes have done it again. This track eximplifies why they are the best in the game and no new comer is taking their place.
Last summer he had everyone shakin their tail fathers, this summer he will have everyone falappin their wings so just "drop down and get your eagle on girl!!!"
"Flap Your Wings" = Song of the Summer

I agree with you
the beat is very different from anything we have heard the Neptunes do before...well it does remind me a little bit of Kardinal Offishall's "Belly Dancer", which they also produced, but I'm sure 99% of you have never heard that song, so...
I LOVE how the beat rises up during the chorus
It will be the song of the summer, I'm fairly certain

The chorus is annoying and has dumb lyrics but, the beat is hot and great for summer.

I'm impressed. The beat is GREAT! Nelly has definately redeemed himself, in my eyes, for all the crap he's released since "Air Force Ones"
