Lloyd announces new album title via Twitter! + New single coming in August!

To his fans via his Twitter account, Lloyd announced the title of his upcoming 4th studio album. The project will be titled "KING OF HEARTS", and it will be his Zone 4/Interscope debut. Lloyd has already worked with Polow Da Don, Jim Jonsin, The Runners, Rico Love, among others, and plans on working with producer heavyweights like Timberland and Dr. Dre. "KING OF HEARTS" currently does not have a release date, but look for the debut single to drop this August!

New Lloyd single! King of Hearts debut single droping Monday!

Since signing with Zone 4/Interscope back in March, Lloyd has been busy prepping his 4th studio album, which he recently announced via twitter (@lloyd_yg) will be titled ‘King of Hearts’. After working with a talented pool of producers and writers including Jim Jonsin, Rico Love, The Runners, Ester Dean, Bruno Mars, and Polow Da Don, the 24 year old R&B singer is set to debut his lead single "Lay It Down" Monday morning, August 16th!

Lloyd releases new single, "LAY IT DOWN"! Debut single from KING OF HEARTS album! Listen now!

Since signing with Zone 4/Interscope back in March, Lloyd has been busy prepping his 4th studio album, which he recently announced via twitter (@lloyd_yg) will be titled ‘King of Hearts’. After working with a talented pool of producers and writers including Jim Jonsin, Rico Love, The Runners, Ester Dean, and Bruno Mars, to name a few, the 24 year old R&B singer releases his debut single, “Lay It Down”, produced by Awesome Jones (aka Polow Da Don). The track samples the Patti Labelle classic “Love, Need and Want You”, and will lead the release of King of Hearts which is due out first quarter 2011.

Acclaimed songwriter/producer Polow Da Don had this to say of his work with Lloyd, “Real music, real singing, classic.” Lloyd offered his thoughts on his new situation and single, "It feels good to start fresh with Polow and Interscope, making music is fun again. We took my sound to another level with "Lay It Down". It's a true R&B sound that's missing from music right now."

Lloyd Says Polow Da Don 'Brings Out The Best Of Me'
King of Hearts 'is gonna be my best work to date,' R&B heartthrob tells MTV News of his first-ever Polow-helmed LP.

It's official now: Young Goldie and Awesome Jones are down together. Former Inc. singer Lloyd announced last year he was leaving his original label home and, several weeks ago, he finalized a new deal at Interscope. On Monday (August 16) it was announced that he inked a deal to release his next LP, The King of Hearts, via a joint deal with the Zone 4 imprint belonging to producer Polow Da Don a.k.a. Awesome Jones.

"I'm the King of Hearts, you know," Lloyd said recently when we visited the New Jersey set of Lloyd Banks' "Any Girl" video. "And at the album release, we gonna be drinking Ace of Spades," he laughed.

"Me and Polow Da Don have been working hard," he added. "I got a lot of surprises. I think that a lot of people haven't heard me sound like this, haven't heard me sing like this. It's gonna be a new look, it's gonna be like I'm back for the first time. It should be anticipated. The album is gonna be my best work to date, King of Hearts."

The R&B heartthrob just released the single "Lay It Down," and the tumble-in-the-sheets single is just the first hint of what's to come from the Po and Lloyd collaboration.

Lloyd's last LP was 2008's Lessons in Love, which spawned the hit "Girls Around the World" featuring Lil Wayne. Of course, Lloyd, a.k.a. Young Goldie, was also heard on the Young Money blockbuster "Bedrock." Lloyd's connection to Cash Money/ Young Money is so strong that the singer nearly became an official Young Money member, but wanted to bolt entirely from Universal, where his last two albums were released through The Inc. and which serves as the distribution home for Young Money projects.

Instead, he'll be over at the house that Jimmy Iovine built working with a fellow ATL music staple, producer/songwriter Polow.

"He's dedicated," Lloyd co-signed of the hitmaker. "The greatest thing about Polow is there's no amount of time that's unnecessary when it comes to making something the best, whether it takes two days or two months for one track. I've seen Polow sit with one song for six days and perfect it. You can hear the difference in the quality against someone else's music. It sounds completely different.

"Working with Polow, he brings the best out of me," Lloyd continued. "He pushes me to be a better artist. And I really feel like I found a home, I found a good home at Interscope. They believe in me as a star. I'm really looking forward to the future."

Lloyd's first album, Southside, was released in 2004, and he hit another milestone when his 2007 sophomore LP, Street Love, debuted at #2 on the Billboard albums chart. Now, he's ready to take a fresh direction for his fourth effort. Polow will be handling most of the album's production, which Lloyd says is a much-welcome change of pace.

"I don't wanna bounce around too much. When an artist bounces around, you lose the consistency and the continuity in the sound," he said. "For me, working with Polow has been all that and more. He's given me a lot of different sounds, but at the same time, it's a complete thought, so it's not like we're recording the same songs over and over again. Having that one creative partner in a producer is something I've never really had and I'm enjoying a lot not having to bounce around ... just me and Po for the most part."

Lloyd returned to music this week with a new single “Lay It Down” and a new label. Rap-Up TV reunited with the R&B crooner in Hollywood to talk about his fourth album King of Hearts, due around Valentine’s Day, and signing with Polow Da Don’s Zone 4 imprint on Interscope Records.

The Southern gentleman explains why he’s keeping the album’s production in-house, the funny nickname Polow Da Don gave him, and the great expectations he’s set for himself. “I’m amongst some amazing company [on Interscope] and it’s just an incredible energy, and I feel a great weight on my shoulders to deliver,” he said.

One of the perks of becoming a member of the Interscope Records family is meeting icons like Dr. Dre. The label’s newest signee Lloyd shares what it was like to meet the Doc and be one of the few to hear his long-awaited album Detox. “It’s history, it’s classic, it’s epic. It’s like L.A. stand up, it’s like West Coast,” he tells Rap-Up TV.

Not only did Lloyd get to hear Detox, but Dre also listened in on his studio session with Polow Da Don. “It was humbling, but at the same time, it was like stepping in the room with a lion and then you walk out and you feel like you’re unstoppable.”

Lloyd’s new single “Lay It Down” even received the stamp of approval from the hip-hop pioneer. “He heard the ad-libbing at the end, and he was just like, ‘Damn!’” says the Southern gentleman. “That reaction alone for me was validation.”

Dr. Dre is not the only star Lloyd has been rubbing shoulders with as of late. The R&B crooner has also been sharing studio sessions with his new Zone 4 labelmate Keri Hilson, who’s given him feedback on his upcoming album King of Hearts. In return, he’s had a chance to hear some new music from her sophomore set No Boys Allowed and was blown away.

“Keri is, in my opinion, [one of] the most beautiful, incredible, just breathtaking entertainers of my generation,” Lloyd tells Rap-Up TV. “Being in the room with Keri is something that every man should have the chance to experience.”

The “Lay It Down” singer also clears the air surrounding his misconstrued comments about Chris Brown’s tribute to Michael Jackson at the BET Awards. “I don’t think that what I said was wrong,” says Lloyd, who remains friends with Chris. “The fact that we understand what it was is what’s important.”

In the final part of our interview with Lloyd, Sammy Davis Jr. Jr. as Polow Da Don calls him, opens up about his relationship with Young Money/Cash Money. The “BedRock” singer, who was once rumored to be signing with Lil Wayne’s label, puts his friendship with hip-hop’s hottest crew above everything. “What’s most important is that there’s a comradery behind the music,” he tells Rap-Up TV. “It is bigger than just money and fake handshakes and pretentious friendships.”

Lloyd has been a staunch supporter of Young Money before its members blew up. “Drake is my favorite rapper in the game and he’s a breath of fresh air,” he shares of Drizzy, who he collaborated with on his So Far Gone mixtape. He also champions Nicki Minaj, who he enlisted for “Take It Off” from The Young Goldie EP. “At the time, Nicki didn’t have a single. She just had an energy and a fire that was burning brighter than any female MC I had ever heard. Her delivery was flawless.”

While he admits that he hasn’t spoken with YM’s chief while he’s been in jail, that’s not because he doesn’t want to. “I don’t want to bother him and I’m sure he doesn’t want to bother me,” says Lloyd. “I’d rather see him when he’s a free man.”

LONG HAIR DON’T CARE? .... LONG HAIR DOES CARE!! LLOYD CUTS OFF HIS HAIR AND DONATES IT TO A WORTHY CAUSE!!


Lloyd aka. “Mr. Long Hair Don’t Care” surprised his fans today via twitter (@lloyd_yg) when he revealed that he cut off his trademark braids for a worthy cause. The R&B star, who began growing his hair over 10 years ago, felt like it was time for a change, and time to give back, “I’ve been growing my hair since 9th grade. It’s time for a new me.” said Lloyd. He went on to say, “The fact that my hair will go to someone that needs it more than me, makes me feel great about my decision.”

Lloyd has always been an avid supporter of non-profit charity work, especially when his efforts go toward benefiting children in need. Non-profit organization Locks of Love will use Lloyd’s donated hair to provide a hair piece for a financially disadvantaged child (under age 21) suffering from long-term medical hair loss. The organization was happy to work with Lloyd, and both parties hope that their partnership will inspire others to donate.

Mahogany Wright, Lloyd’s long time hair braider gave the artist one final braid, then did the honors of cutting off the 12 inch lock of hair. Moments before, Lloyd had this to say, “I’m doing this for me. I feel like it’s time for a change and now is the perfect time." Lloyd’s childhood barber, known simply as “Parker The Barber”, who was the last person to cut his hair when he was just 14, finished the job, giving the artist a fresh new look. After his cut, Lloyd simply stated, “I feel liberated.”

Lloyd has been busy prepping his 4th studio album and Zone 4/Interscope debut, ‘King of Hearts’ which will be lead by the new single “Lay It Down” produced by Awesome Jones (aka Polow Da Don). He now has a new look and new energy to go with his new label situation and new album.
