I think I like Sunday Girl's cover of Tik Tok more than the original.

This thread made my eyes pop out of my head at some of these covers that are supposedly better than the original. Biggest ew is Placebo's version of "Running Up That Hill" being better than Kate Bush's. I'm sorry but I think they actually destroyed that song. For me Kate's will always reign supreme, even Within Temptation's interpretation is better than Placebo's in my book and I can't stand their music usually. Though the real second best take of the song is done by Chromatics (but even that's a long long long over the river and through the woods distant second). Anyways one cover that may be a little better or at least to same level as it's original is Feist's cover of "Inside and Out" which was done by the BeeGees first. Oh yeah and.. Red Hot Chili Pepper's version of "Higher Ground" (Stevie Wonder) is also just as good as the original and on some days I prefer more so to Stevie's. Now, I said I appreciated the take that Placebo took on Kate Bush, but no one could compare to her Within Temptation's version was a hot me$$. Chromatics arrangement was quite nice, I would love to hear Imogen Heap singing over that arrangement, the girl singing was too weak, imo.

I do prefer the Within Temptation version a lot more than Placebo's cover of the song. I just feel like they (as in Placebo) took the purpose of the song and ruined it, but ya know it's all subjective either way so lol. I think my gripe was more of a general one about Placebo's, since on youtube and on lastfm I see people shitting themselves on how they "improved" the song or finally made the song "listenable" compared to the original by Kate. And I do think the Chromatics instrumental/arrangement of it could sit well or even better with a vocalist like Imogen Heap. That would be great to listen to since that style would suit her voice so well.

"Take Me Home" - Sophie Ellis-Bextor... again another cover that is just on par and on some days better than the original for me (Cher's).

"I Told You So" - Carrie Underwood over Randy Travis's version (although their version together is incredible!) I'll also add these: Carrie Underwood > George Michaels, "Praying For Time" Carrie Underwood > The Pretenders, "I'll Stand By You" Jennifer Hudson > Brooks & Dunn, "Believe" Kelly Clarkson > Kings of Leon, "Use Somebody" (it was only during her "All I Ever Wanted" tour, but I was floored when she sang it) Whitney Houston > Chaka Khan, "I'm Every Woman"

Depeche Mode - "Route 66" Eels - "Get Ur Freak On" Siouxsie and the Banshees - "Dear Prudence" I disagree about "Dear Prudence," but there's almost no Beatles' covers that I think are as good, much less better than the Beatle orginal.

It was actually originally by Jennifer Rush, who had a bigger hit with it than Celine did pretty much everywhere outside the US. I think it was the #1 single of whatever year in the UK.

You wouldn't believe it, but virtually every remake of the Rolling Stones' "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" (no Britney, I'm looking more at... the Residents and Devo) has DESTROYED the original.

I am sure I am alone on this one but I've always been moved by this
The Original for comparison I can't even stomach Prince's version. Although I don't like anything Prince does.

She can really sing when she keeps it simple and smooth: CelineTo me the most perfect version of this song belongs to Vince Gill (couldn't find youtube link). You can really feel the hopelessness and desolation in his voice. :'( Kelly Clarkson - Love Takes Time Kelly Clarkson - Vision of Love
