What do you all think of Janet's 7th studio album, All For You? I for one love the album, although not her best, it is definitely a highlight in her career. The only problem was that all the erotic songs were placed in a bunch in the middle of the album, which shouldn't have happened. It makes the album hard to listen to straight through because of the randomly placed 3-4 sex songs bunched together. I feel as though they could've done a better job putting the track-list together, but I don't agree with people who say that the "baby making" tracks were bad. "Would You Mind" is a masterpiece in it's own right- love it. Exhaleβ’'s Top 5 Picks1 | Trust A Try.2 | Come On Get Up.3 | All For You.4 | Doesn't Really Matter.5 | Someone To Call My Lover.

The album is not bad, and I have grown to like it more with time, but it really feels like a singles + filler affair, unlike the previous four records. Also, I only bought it because it came with a bonus DVD with the 1993-2001 videos. Still, "All for You", "When We Oooo", "Son of a Gun", "Someone to Call My Lover" and "Doesn't Really Matter" are really, really good.

The last time when she was totally on point. I have fond memories of the All For You single being huge and everywhere. By the end of this era, cracks were showing and things would never be the same again.

To be completely honest, "When We Oooo" is complete trash to me. That & "Love Scene (Ooh Baby)" should've been omitted from the album.

My bad- I mistaken "When We Oooo" for another song. I like that track, but I still hate "Love Scene." CHINA LOVE = BEAST SONG. "As the sun retires our love will transpire" ;)

Yep, "China Love" is amazing.
The material on the album is all together great, and the era was just excellent. I loved the colors they used for the promo campaign!

I like "those" 4 songs individually and together, but putting them in the middle of the album completely killed its flow and it never recovered after that. This was a big step down from her previous 4, but it's still ok. Trust A Try is probably my favorite track.

Love: All For You Someone To Call My Lover Better Days Trust A Try Truth China Love When We Oooo
Like: Come On Get Up Doesn't Really Matter (I don't care for this mix; I'm all about the single version) Son Of A Gun You Ain't Right
Okay: Feels So Right
Do Not Want, Ever: Love Scene (Ooh Baby) Would You Mind
So, basically, the album gets a bad rep, IMO. I think it's just sequenced poorly, as mentioned already. The ballads weigh it down being clunked together right when the momentum should be picking up.
The album is very dated now, production-wise, but there are still quite a few songs that STILL sound fresh. "China Love" is one of them.

Listening to "You Ain't Right" - it's such a breathe of fresh air. So original.

AFY is a good album when compared to someone else's catalog but a let down in terms of Janet's catalog. China Love is one of the best if not the BEST song on the album.

This was the first Janet album I ever heard. For that reason, it stands out in my mind and holds a place in my heart.
"Someone To Call My Lover" will probably forever be my favorite cut and take me back to summer '01.

The All For You video gave us some of the most gratuitous Janet-boobie footage to date. You had Janet wearing the half-denim jacket and her boobies in a partial-sling contraption, and the camera going from face shot, to boobie shot incessantly. I'll love Janet forever for this alone!

I still think Damita Jo is what this album should've been. Not sure what you mean. You mean AFY should have had more of the R&B/urban vibe that DJ had?

It's hard to believe it's been 10 years since her last major hit.

^ Ok, I gotcha now.
AFY definitely has standout tracks: "All For You", "Come On Get Up", "Trust A Try", "Someone to Call My Lover", "Feels So Right", "Doesn't Really Matter" ......
Hmmm - actually more solid than filler, if you ask me.
The only throw away tracks for me are "Love Scene" & "Would You Mind", in my opinion.

Why all the hate for Would You Mind? I love that song so much. The production and her vocals...mmm. So erotic!
