Yay! New thread. On a side not, anyone else think BHC is gaining fame once more because of Tiger Woods?

^^ LMAO. Louisville Slugger, Golf Club......details, details ! :) Dudley, thanks for linking the old threads and upcoming appearances at the beginning. ____________________________________________________________ This is a harsh review, most of which is repetitive and doesn't seem to scratch the surface of Carrie's disc. The same author gave Adam Lambert's disc 3.5 stars and Lady Gaga's latest disc 4 stars....... CD reviews: No play, please, for new Underwood discThe Ottawa Citizen November 27, 2009 Play On ** (2 stars) Carrie Underwood (Arista Nashville) Maybe Carrie Underwood’s dictionary stops at the letter “r.” That would help explain the astounding lack of subtlety in her third, vaguely country album. The multi-award winning, former American Idol has talent, but it’s once again buried amid endless big vocal moments and slick, overblown productions. The songs, meanwhile — Underwood has co-written several of them, including the earnest title track — groan beneath the weight of lyrical and musical clichés. Not only is all this tiresome, it’s often an aural mess as too many musical elements compete for our attention. “I believe that nothing lasts forever,” sings Underwood at one point. Which is not how it feels when Play On plays on. Patrick Langston www.ottawacitizen.com/entertainment/reviews+play+please+Underwood+disc/2277568/story.html

Eh, not every review will be great. I still love the album.
I was searching for the "Some Hearts" era thread, and can't find it. Did they all implode?

The first page of the new thread beings with a horrible review from someone who clearly has poor music taste lol! I was just wondering what people think Carrie will get nominated for a the Grammys this year. I think...
Country Female Vocal: "Just A Dream" Country Collaboration with Vocals: "I Told You So"
I think Carrie has a good chance of winning both, but I won't be suprised if Taylor wins Country Female with "White Horse". I read somewhere that alot of the CMA voters are also Grammy voters so that even leans more towards a Taylor win. For collaboration, I believe as long as ITYS is nominated, it'll win regaurdless of the other nominees unless Vince Gill and/or Allison Krauss sneak a nomination in. I don't know if either of them have had collaborations this past year though. Carrie could very well walk away with her 5th and 6th Grammy trophies! I can soooo see Carrie, 20 years down the road, with 20 some-odd Grammy's as the next Allison Krauss of the Grammys!

I read somewhere that alot of the CMA voters are also Grammy voters so that even leans more towards a Taylor win. where did you read that? grammys have a spceial blue ribbon commiittee that votes on the final nominees and winners. like a 20-person blue ribbon committee, not like the cmas or acms where all the members vote until the end. bec if thats the case, i dont see why george only won his first grammy ever last year, and martina has never won. and how alison's favorite hobby is collecting grammy trophies at a ridiculous pace. alison exactly isnt a cma darling. our song was prob like the most successful single of the last grammy year, yet trisha leanne and lee ann and even a horrbile song by martina were able to beat it for a nom. so i dont see any lock, really, but a nom wouldnt suprise me. but i agree with you that carrie can easily be a grammy darling just like alison is!

^ I thought that the blue ribbon panel was only to select the nominees in the the general field categories for album, song, record, and new artist. I could easily be wrong though.

To be honest, what I read wasn't anything official...I actually think it was a post in the Grammy thread. I didn't take it seriously, and I'm glad to see it's not true lol! Trust me, I'm aware that underdogs, and unheard of people do well a the Grammys. I'm just saying, like Carrie in 2007, Taylor seems unstoppable. However I'm sure the Grammy voter's brains are big enough to comprehend who the real vocalist is. I'm sure they'll get it right. However as long as the other nominees are respectable vocalists, I don't mind seeing any of them take the award instead.

You haven't missed a thing, which is why I agreed you should :) I like that you consistently update the first post in the thread with appearances and info. Well, thanks. Though in the interest of full disclosure, I thought I should let you know that you folks came awfully close to getting a new thread that was introduced solely by vinman's clip of Carlton dancing to "Quitter." what did you think of the CNN Heroes "Change" performance? It made me unreasonably happy. I thought Carrie sounded absolutely beautiful and inspired, and it was great to see such an in-the-moment performance from her. I think that her performance felt more powerful in the context of the whole ceremony, and that everything about the performance seemed to come very naturally to and through her. I was searching for the "Some Hearts" era thread, and can't find it. Did they all implode? Here is Part II and here is Part III of the Some Hearts era threads. I found them by alphabetizing the threads in this forum (that is, the General Artist Discussion, A-J forum) by Subject. I can't seem to find Part I of the Some Hearts era, though. I looked in our Music News (Archive) forum too, sorting again by Subject, but no luck there. For collaboration, I believe as long as ITYS is nominated, it'll win regaurdless of the other nominees unless Vince Gill and/or Allison Krauss sneak a nomination in. I don't know if either of them have had collaborations this past year though. As I've already mentioned, "Old Enough" by the Raconteurs, Ricky Skaggs and Ashley Monroe will appeal to the bluegrass voters who have been a part of Alison Krauss' many Grammy wins. It would be the most critically acclaimed nominee in the collaboration category if it got in. I think it is very likely to win if nominated, and I would be at least as thrilled to see that happen as I would to see Carrie/Randy walk away with a Grammy for "I Told You So." The Grammy and CMA results often don't match up (Carrie is a recent exception, of course), which suggests to me that the voting bodies don't operate in the same way. Last year's slate of Country field Grammy nominees was terrific and, with the likes of Patty Loveless, Trisha Yearwood and Randy Travis scoring nominations, a great cross-section of the genre that didn't bear a whole lot of resemblance to the CMA or ACM nominees. But it should be noted that the Country field winners last year were typically the most mainstream in the pack. ^ I thought that the blue ribbon panel was only to select the nominees in the the general field categories for album, song, record, and new artist. I could easily be wrong though. Yes, you're right. The panel selects the General field nominees from among the top 20 entries that garners the highest number of votes from NARAS. This link confirms that the winners in all fields are determined by votes by the NARAS membership, with each NARAS member being restricted to voting in the General field and no more than eight other fields (i.e., genres -- they can vote in all categories in up to eight genres, of course).

I agree about her performance of Change Dudley - one of my favorites this era (so far). I busted out the Carrie Christmas music and she needs to do a whole album. It's so great.

I am so excited about the CMT Invitation Only Concert Tuesday! I have held off watching any youtube clips or even the CMT TH clip because I wanted to see the whole thing at once.
Is anyone here going to the Joe's Pub concert in Chicago this week, or the Bahamas concert?

I know it's been discussed quite a few times but I was listening to "Oklahoma Wind" and reading the lyrics and I think I can say Carrie just passed the most beautiful song she has ever had in her hands. This song is different from anything Carrie has ever written. I know people say "Temporary Home is her best co-wrote but I don't agree. TH has a great message for those who can relate to it, but lyrically its structure is quite simple and the words used to convey the emotions are effective but ordinary. I know most people won't agree, that's fine. But "Oklahoma Wind" is just in another league for me. The writers dealt with the words like masters of conveying emotions (And I'm so glad to see Carrie was part of it). I don't see any flaw on it. The imagery is effective but sophisticated; the use of the words is just amazing. In my opinion none of Carrie's song has gotten closer to greatness than this. "Someday When I Stop Loving You" came close, but it fell short because of its third verse which sounds like the writers got lazy. Anyway, I know I'm late, but I didn't listen to any demo when we found them and I just came around it now.
